LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

AlphaRacks Halloween VPS Sale!

Julian from AlphaRacks submitted an offer letting us know that his company has some exclusive packages available for Low End Box users to celebrate Halloween! Over the past few years AlphaRacks has been posted numerous times, and as recently as August 2016. The feedback in the last offer wasn’t perfect, but we do appreciate that Julian and team were very responsive to customer issues and comments. Things don’t always go perfect, but what is most important is that a company responds and resolves issues. If you signup with this exclusive Halloween offer please be sure to share your feedback.

Don’t buy from this scammers, they will just steal your money and TRICK you until you get tired, loose your data and even your patience, and even if they offer you a refund they will just close your account and block you out,

Luckily I filed a case to PayPal after they treat me like that and PayPal got me a refund,

Want proof of what I’m saying? Just ask and I’ll happily provide screen shoots.

There is a better cheap offer from a reliable provider posted here a couple of days aggo, with even more RAM, o don’t let this SCAMMERS trick you!

Just the same that to other customers, look at the links I posted bellow. When I get home I’ll post some screenshots here.

    • Mari, I just took a look at your “closed” account with us, and the PayPal name does not match the name on file with us and neither the name you’re using to post these comments on Lowendbox “Mari”

Looking at your account you opened a total of 99 support tickets. While a good chunk of them being duplicate tickets if we didn’t respond within a few minutes they were still active communications you had with our support staff, and you primarily used our service in full length (you used our servers, you used our support, you used our knowledge) for 6 months before deciding to chargeback your payments, or rather, the official PayPal or credit card owner decided to file one.

Furthermore I am showing the PayPal transactions and notes on the account as fraudulent/reversed which indicates you filed a chargeback after using our services therefore your account was terminated.

On that note, what you did was unethical and I hope no other web hosting company also gets in the same situation as we did with your account. I am currently in the process of making a report on FraudRecord.com

You closed my account BEFORE i filed the claim with paypal,

i open tickets cause the service was failing and i needed a solution,

it took days to answer any of those tickets, surprisingly here you respond within minutes,

The paypal account belongs to my husband and here is a proof that its out, not a fraudulent one http://i.imgur.com/4xq1XIj.png

Want me to put screenshoots of the tickets proving that you took days (not minutes) to repply? want me to put screenshoos of the load on the server (where my reseller account was) over 40 with only 8 cores, or the repeatedly failures on the sql database? want me to put screenshoots of one person related with one of your staff telling me that you guys lost my clients data and you will do any thing to even try to recover it?

Don’t come up here saying lies to wash your face, you are a scammer!

I ask for your layer contact details several times, you ignored me, file the case, my lawyer will handle you, scammer!

Yes scammers, I bought a dedicated server and the notice said it would be delivered in 12h – 24h, I bought it because I needed it urgently (my site was waiting) and I did not receive the service after 4 days they answered my ticket, I decided to cancel and ask for refund and they simply blocked my account. I have account in big forums and if I see topics about alpharacks scam I will alert people, scammers.

      • Dedicated servers can take up to 24 hours for delivery, unless there was a rare occurrence such as being out of stock on a certain inventory.

This LEB sale is for VPS – which are instantly activated and ready for your use right after your order.

Send me an email at julian@alpharacks.com with more information about your case as I am not familiar with this situation. I am here to help

    I ordered one this morning.
Download speeds seemed good when testing (around 5MB/s and going up, from Netherlands). The server was deployed immediately, domainname resolved correctly.

The default apache page loads fast (but I think that, that does not say something about actual connection quality, good or bad).
Was suprised to see that apache page, it seems ubuntu comes with apache pre-installed? (My last VPS was around 2010).

Had some questions about this offer, the first reply on my ticket came pretty quickly (within an hour, if I am not mistaken). I am not talking about the auto reply. I now have to wait for the actual answers from the top/management.

I have the Spooky VPS Special 2048MB (hope my VPS doesn’t ghost…).
And I am aware of the issues regarding Alpharacks.

I will start adding content on VPS after a month or so. So I can give a proper review after that.

But so far …they SEEM good… (Actual helpdesk response, domain name resolves correctly and VPS default page loads quickly, immediate deployment add to that the VPS specs(2GB, 3TB bandwidth,4 vCPU, 40GB space and maybe even 1Gbps and triple bandwidth?)).

    I hope I won’t get any issues…….

I have two VPS with them. One was for 1GB which I purchased a while back but never really used. I started using it a little bit ago for VPN and so far it’s been fine. I just purchased a 2GB one from them recently and initially thought I might have issues but luckily found that the problem lied with the other server I was trying to download software from. So far, using Webmin and Virtualmin, my VPS has been working fine. Not as good as the 3GB I got from another vendor priced just slightly higher than Alpha’s 2GB but not bad. Too bad I couldn’t get another 3GB from that vendor for the same price. I’m waiting for that vendor to run another sale but from what I’m been seeing I don’t think I can ever get the price I got for my 3GB anytime in the near future.

No SSD storage option as of right now. We run our nodes with enterprise hard drives in RAID10 using LSI Hardware RAID and CacheVault. We have found this setup works good and doesn’t require we compromise on space. this way our clients can get more bang for the buck and get larger storage space with their VPS for a cheaper price, while still getting all the redundancy RAID10 offers and performance that is suitable and more than enough for most use cases.

    Hi,

I’m here to give my feedback about AlphaRacks, I’ve used their vps only for 20minutes or less but it was enough for me to decide weither to stay or ask to leave.

My goal was to setup a personal VPN, only one user will be connected. I got bad results with speed testing, first I got a 153ms ping, which is VERY high for me, I’m in Canada, the VPS is located in the US normally I must have 50ms or less, with european vps I get 90-99ms. Download speed was terrible as well 9.25Mbps and upload 2.54Mbps (My home internet is 60/10)…

While I was disappointed I must admit that my expectations were high, considering I am used to european companies that are cheap but still manage to give “descent” performance. I will not say “I do not recommand”, actually I will recommand this company, but not for everyone, if you have a personal website, and you are tired of shared hosting you may try them, if you are a developper that has a client, you better pay more and be safe.

The best part of AlphaRacks is refunds, it took them 1 minute after I opened my ticket to issue the refund. That’s something that doesn’t exist even in big companies. If you are not sure about how much resources you need, take a vps, do your tests and then if it doesn’t work ask for refund.

Not all companies can offer trying a vps before paying, but it will be my advice for AR, even if the duration is a couple of hours it is enough for most people to try and decide weither to pay or not.

The upload speed is absolutely abysmal. This is obviously not suitable as a production machine. Your milage may vary for production. This wouldn’t even make a good vpn for me. Support people waste time pretending that they have fixed the problem when they have likely done nothing. Clearly very oversold, would not recommend.

Go with deepnethosting or inceptionhosting they are very trustworthy and reliable.

However, that’s not to say you shouldn’t try this for ~2days, just make sure not to overstep that three day refund window.

Quick update. Refund was quick and without issue. Didn’t need to file a claim with PayPal or anything that other people seem to indicate. The only real issue with these guys is that their servers are clearly very oversold.

    • Matthew, thanks for the updated comment. I wanted to clear something up here to give a better representation. We do not overload our servers. Our servers are located in Los Angeles, and you were testing from a *residential* broadband provider in Baltimore, Maryland… if you are from the US you would know that’s on the other side of the states from LA and a broadband provider’s upload testing capabilities are most likely not as powerful as a datacenter would be, as you were testing from a server provided by a broadband provider.

For a better test and representation, you could have at least tested from a speedtest.net server hosted in a datacenter and located in Los Angeles or any other city that is closer to where ours are located. Speedtest.net also from my understanding is more designed and geared towards testing residential internet connection speed, I would suggest testing with something like Cachefly to test server network speed for more accurate results.

I tested from a server in LA and got ~200mbps upload of the top of my head, at 1gbps port speeds. I would provide a link but I also got a refund for my VPS.

      • Matthew:

That node is clearly hosted by a datacenter as the MD node’s upload speed is at least 222.47 Mbit/s

It was selected because it had the lowest latency, so your servers must have severe latency issues for that node to be chosen.

I ran 3 tests, these results were not unusual.

        November 4, 2016 @ 12:03 am | Reply
        • speedtest.net automatically picks the test server based off geo-location. Their geo IP databases may have been outdated at the time of your test.

You can specify a manual test server still but anyhow its a known fact that speedtest.net is not a good platform for testing server connections as the platform was built for testing residential / desktop connections.

    • Mr H, what is your ticket number ? If you do not want to post the ticket number here, I understand just request that the ticket be escalated to Julian and I will take over the ticket and make sure everything is resolved to your satisfaction.

No VPS provider can guarantee network connection speed to any destination, as there are many things to keep in mind that are outside of our power, as an example geographical distance is something we can’t control, if you were trying to download or upload a file across the states or to another country it would of course be a slightly slower speed than downloading or uploading to a remote server located in the west coast of the United States. It all depends on many different things as you can see but all of our VPS nodes are hooked up to 2x 1Gbps uplinks with our data center and we do not have any network saturation issues.

our servers are located in Los Angeles, CA – USA. This location is most ideal for great network connections to United States, Australia and Asia regions due to its geographical position and network backbones, but our network still provides decent speed to the rest of the world. You can test latency and speed with the test IP and test file before ordering to see if we’re a good fit.

All fine so far! Today I signed up for one of their specials. The service is very fast. Tickets get answered within minutes – despite that it is weekend now. Up and download speeds are definitely faster than what I would expect for a $1/month box. Even via the notoriously slow ‘scp’ I get more than 200 Mbps to another box in Seattle. CPU speed is completely adequate too (2048 bit long safe prime took only a few minutes to complete on one core). Maybe I got lucky, but so far I am definitely very happy with the service. Would I run my business on a $1/month box? Probably not! Is the service provided for this little money worth it? Every cent!
    Cheers!

    • I apologize for the inconvenience, at present I do not see any pending orders in the queue, so you should be up and running by now. Your order was placed with a hostname that was not a minimum of 4 characters in length. This triggers a known SolusVM/WHMCS module bug that breaks the normal deployment automation. While this is not your fault at all we encourage you to utilize a hostname that will be 4 or more characters in length so that there is no delay on subsequent deployments.

I’ve had one for a little over a year. It hasn’t been bad. I had some issues when someone decided to try to brute force my SSH connection, they suspended my account because of my “abuse of service”. Took a few rounds of this cycle to get it figured out. Then my box kept dropping it’s tunneled connection resulting in my getting suspended for more “abuse of service”. Still suspended, probably just going to let it expire and move on.

Speeds were pretty hit or miss, but at getting a year for what most guys charge for a month, couldn’t complain.

    • As you have an unmanaged server it is of course on you to install appropriate firewalls and security measures to protect your server from brute force attacks. We offer server management for an additional fee for those who aren’t tech savvy and need more hand-holding :-)

  23. I was looking for a place to host a few low-traffic sites. The negative comments about alpharacks on this site scared me, but I decided to give them a try anyway, thinking I’ll experience them for myself soon enough, and am not risking too much money by testing them. I liked alpharacks’ offer “budget high-storage VPS”, which is tuned to cheaply host a low-traffic but high-storage (100 GB) site, exactly the combination I was looking for.
Anyway, I only signed up with them today, but so far I’m pleased: I got a working VPS within a minute of signing (I guess it’s all automatic), and half an hour later, it was already serving my site. It seems to be working well, and network and disk performance is acceptable although not stellar (I definitely did not expect stellar performance in this price range, so I am not disappointed).
So so far, so good! I’m happy to have signed up, and looking forward to continued happiness, and to using their service for many years to come.

    November 18, 2016 @ 12:20 pm | Reply
    • After a few days using their service, I learned a bit more. As I said before, performance is usually acceptable, though not stellar. This time I unfortunately had to add the word “usually” in this sentence… During the last few days, I’ve encountered several periods, each lasting many minutes, where my server was basically unusable: http requests hang, new ssh attempts hang, and when I type a trivial command in an open ssh connections (such as “ls” in a small directory) it takes 10 to 60 (!!) seconds to complete (instead of the normal few milliseconds). I suspect that they have a serious problem of isolation between their different guests. If I had to guess, I would guess that the problem is memory over-commitment which can result in huge amounts of swap activity when some of their guests use up all the memory given to them.

I’ve been using another cheap (even cheaper) hosting provided before, and didn’t have such problems, so I think these guys are doing something wrong, and can probably fix this problem if they put their heart into it. If they have been offering people too much memory, they should stop doing this. They offered me, for example, 1 GB, and I could have easily settled with half of that.

      November 21, 2016 @ 2:22 pm | Reply
      • Unfortunately, my opinion of alpharacks is going down and down :-(
It’s not that my VPS has abysmal performance “some of the time”, it’s that it has abysmal performance most of the time.

And note that when I’m saying “abysmal performance” I don’t mean that instead of a million requests per second, I only get a 1000. I don’t expect that when I pay $28 a year. When I’m saying “abysmal performance”, I’m talking about ssh attempts that take *minutes* to get in. I’m talking about a trivial Web page that takes 30 seconds instead of 30 milliseconds to load. I’m talking about an “ls” command in an empty directory that hangs for a full minute. And this is now happening to me all the time. Also, unsurprisingly, uploading files to the VPS is taking me ages – it’s going now at 40 KB/s, reminding me of my modem days :-(
Something is definitely wrong or terribly overloaded in their setup. This never happened to me on other cheap hosts I tried.

I’ve had a similar experience. I signed up about 30 days ago for the Spooky VPS Special 2048MB and added some additional disk space and a CPU.

I’m using the site to host my Logitech Media Server. Usually, no more than 3 devices are connected, although I’ve had as many as 5 connections without incident. Throughout the month, I’ve noticed some performance issues, but the resources don’t appear to be over taxed. In fact, they appear almost idle.

All this week I’ve been having issues with the web interface loading slow. Like you, I’ve run the server on less robust systems and have not had this issue.

This morning, the alarm on my Logitech Radio didn’t go off. It turns out the clock not only displayed the wrong time, but the wrong date and year! I checked the server and the time matched. WTF? The date on the server was 2014 Dec 31. As best I can tell, something was going on with the host machine. I submitted a ticket and still haven’t received a response. The issue got corrected within a couple of hours, but still…

I’d ask for a refund and go back to hosting myself, but it’s probably too late. I’ll just deal with this for another year and try to make the best of it.

3 days isn’t really enough time to get an idea of a products reliability, certainly not when it comes to hosting. The refund period should really be longer. 30 days is reasonable (I think) :)

          • Yes, I did open a ticket. According to your support, the only way to fix the performance of my host would be to move me to a different host, which would mean they will have to change my IP address (!). I (very) reluctantly agree, and am now waiting for this to happen, and will report here back.

By the way, a revelation that really disturbed me was that your virtualization software doesn’t allow you to move a guest to a different host without changing its IP address. This is not only annoying for me (it will mean a downtime of many hours as all the DNS servers in the world drop their caches). It also means another thing: That as soon as one of your servers becomes overcommitted (e.g., people start using all the memory you have allocated to them), you have no way to actually move clients from this overloaded server to another, less overloaded, server, because to do that – you would need their cooperation (and agreement to change the IP address). This is really sad.

By the way, here is a random benchmark from this morning:

            [nyh@harel]~% time ls
            bin harel.org.il pictures
            ls –color=auto 0.00s user 0.00s system 0% cpu 33.522 total

See – my home directory has just 3 files, and “ls” there takes 33 seconds (!!!). That’s my usual experience with my VPS ever since I got it. I’m not happy. I’ve been on hosts where I paid even less than I pay you guys – and my experience was nothing like this one.

We added 2 new guys to our support department in the past month and while I try to do QA (quality assurance) on every ticket that comes in, sometimes I may overlook some as we process lots of new orders and tickets per day.

            I apologize for the troubles

Boxes are garbage and overloaded. There is always packet loss to my server from all over the country. My server was ” suspended ” due to me overloading the server. I asked them to provide me with proof, George sent me a simple SYN scan that was happening from China. Fast forward a week later or so, anyone that was connected to my TeamSpeak had their IP addresses blocked connecting to their LAX servers. So, if you randomly can’t connect to your VPS, try a different IP address. After explaining this multiple times and showing trace routes they moved my NOD and I could magically connect. This new server still has packet loss and they won’t give me a refund or partial.

Their web site also isn’t secure IE; you can access their ticketing system without logging in, they post passwords in these text fields. There are most likely more flaws with the web site, that’s just one I noticed.

I’m pretty sure they’re scammers from India. GL HF.

A common scenario is where your box is suspended for pretty much no reason. After your VPS is suspended it runs like trash. You get what you order for the first week or so. I consistently have packet loss which causes and issue for voice chat.

        ———-George C.——————
        Hi,

Your VPS consume more load and it affect the host node so it is suspended.

        ——————————————————————

They showed me logs of a SYN Stealth scan from China, I think maybe their DDoS prevention software could have caught this. I had all my ports closed besides two which aren’t common ports. Then they proceed to tell me that my VPS was suspended because it was working fine.

        ———-George C.——————
        Hi,

Your VPS is working fine because of this we suspend your VPS.

        Thank you!
        ———————————————————————-

One night everyone in my TeamSpeak was unable to connect to the LAX Node. After going back and forth I explained that anyone in the TeamSpeak wasn’t able to connect to the server, they proceeded to tell me that the server was working just fine. They ended up sending me a traceroute from India.

LOL, you suspend for NO reason. You suspended mine because you said the load was to heavy Julian. But, looking at my bandwidth record I was under 200GBs. I asked your tech to show me why it was suspended. As my server only had 2 ports open an SSH was locked down.

Your tech proceeded to show me logs of a few clients from China attempting to connect to varies ports on my server. He then unsuspended my server.

Are you just overloading boxes and need to disable one. Then you enable another?

  28. Almost 48 hours ago, AlphaRacks suspended my server, apparently because my dns server was getting hit repeatedly. I offered to stop the dns server, and start logging its activity, but after a full day, nothing has happened.

A few weeks ago, they shut down the same server because it was pinging my home router *every* *five* *seconds*. They said that my server was involved in some sort of a DOS attack.

I appreciate that I’m paying next to nothing for this service, and otherwise things have been plenty good enough (Uptime Robot says about 98 to 99% available), but now I’m getting telephone calls saying “your website is down”, and that’s not good enough.

I strongly suspect that when I *do* get to the server, the logs are going to show nothing special, except some burst in DNS activity: ie. basically normal.

Don’t your techs have something better to do than hyperventilate over something they see in the logs? Shouldn’t you wait until it becomes a real bandwidth issue before you shut down someones server?

I’m here at LowEndBox, looking for a good alternative.

I had a bad experience with them. I ordered a vps on Nov 26, and its marked as Pending, so I submitted a ticket and got a reply that they’re waiting for new servers and it’d be ready in 5-6 hours, some hours later I received a mail claiming my vps is ready. Now the funny thing happened, the enclosed user/pass did not work! I submitted another ticket, they replied with the same reason, so I waited more hours, 2 days later, I still couldn’t get into my vps. I can’t believe there’s any good service from a provider which cannot even provide the correct account info, so I asked for my refund.

Ok funny things happened. I was trying to setup L2TP/IPSec vpn on my vps, later I found out the kernel did not support this, so I opened a ticket, and they promised to move me to another node and it’d work, guess what? the new vps they gave me couldn’t even ping, and after 2 days they still couldn’t make it work. I totally lost patience and insisted on refunding even though they offered a new vps with better network in LA and an extra month free use.

7 days have passed, I haven’t received the refund, I want to reply to the ticket, but my account is locked, my login always returns ‘wrong password’ error, and if I try to recover password, I got a message claiming the email doesn’t exist. I’ve registered a new account to open the ticket, if this doesn’t work, I may have to dispute through PayPal to get my money back.

        • George, a VPS would be marked as Pending if your order was placed with a hostname that was not a minimum of 4 characters in length. This triggers a known SolusVM/WHMCS module bug that breaks the normal deployment automation. While this is not your fault at all we encourage you to utilize a hostname that will be 4 or more characters in length so that there is no delay on subsequent deployments.

I would like to look into your other concerns and help you gain access to your account, what is your email on file here? Please email me at julian@alpharacks.com if you do not want to post your e-mail address here.

My advice is to stay away from this provider. They charged me twice (the second time with a late fee) for the renewal of the one VPS I have with them and they refuse to refund me the second charge because it took me more than 3 days to notice their mistake.

I also purchased another server during Black Friday and paid for it immediately. The server appeared as “inactive” in my dashboard for a few days while I was getting “payment overdue” notifications. When they finally acknowledged the payment, the server just disappeared from my account. I opened a couple of tickets about this but all they do is telling me that I’m right but that they cannot solve the problem nor give my money back. So they took my money but refuse to give me the thing I bought.

I can understand that everyone can have some trouble sometimes and charge twice for a product or fail to acknowledge some payment transaction. But the reason I’m advising against AlphaRacks is the slow and very unhelpful support staff. I’ve been talking to them for a while now and after maybe 10 or 12 ticket replies they haven’t fixed anything yet.

    • Elias – I believe we had your issues rectified already. We were surely overwhelmed with the demand of our Black Friday sales, where we took on thousands of new orders.

We do not have the authority to charge anyone twice, we process payments through PayPal or 2Checkout or Bitcoin on a manual basis. No payment details are stored on our billing system so we do not have authorization or a way to manually charge someone.

If your issue was still not resolved to your satisfaction please email me at julian@alpharacks.com for further assistance.

We have been using their VPS since a few months, and I even added another server just a few weeks ago. But out of the blue, they suspended one server. I opened a ticket and they send some network logs, with very vague claims, nothing specific at all, some connections to port 443 and 80. This has been going on for 2 weeks now with somewhere like 20 messages. Sometimes no response for several days. Server is still suspended. We use all servers the same way, its just a SSH proxy, used for browsing the web. There is no apache, email, smtp running at all. So far, always way below the bandwidth limit and pretty much no CPU usage. I have opened a paypal case now, because this is going nowhere. We do use other providers and so far did not have such issues at all in the past 12 months, even with the cheapest VPS.

But every time they just told you that is their provider issue and it already be fixed. Then the VPS will down again few hours later. Don’t buy from them. At one moment the service I ran on the VPS stopped responding. The VPS became uncontrollable through their control panel. Opening a ticket to restore resulted in someone else’s dirty VPS with Squid proxy and dozens of errors during boot being provided to me. Asking to restore my original VPS – “sorry, we lost all data due to accident”. Asking to at least give me back the original IP – “sorry, we assigned this IP to another client”. Refund? “No, your are beyond refunding deadline”.

    Don’t buy AlphaRacks.

I brought “2015 New Year Special – Los Angeles OVZ 1GB” few months ago(yup, the product link still available at that time), and I installed a directadmin panel with it as I thought the VPS is power enough (4 cores, 1gb+2gb swap, 50gb hdd).

    But, my nightmare begun:
1.The SSH will be always stuck in somewhere, I would feel lucky the whole day when I can access.
2.Nill success with “yum update”, I can’t go thought the whole update process.
    3.”ls” a folder with only 2 or 3 files take 2 or 3 second.(I think is the I/O issue)
4.The CPU usage is high always(5, 2, 1 for example), but actually there are only 3 static websites with only 5 or 6 GB bandwidth per month, totally.(I think I have a bad neighbour or overselling on the same machine but Alpharacks just don’t care, or their alert standard is a bit higher than others)

My directadmin license not allow me to swift the VPS/IP too often, so I have to get alone with Alpharacks for some days, and going to migrate my websites to other server provider in a near future.

Their offer looks delicious, but the equipment and overselling will kill you.

Constant restarts, cap speed to as low as 215k when they like it, block legit traffic and protocol such as pptp/gre, rolled back my VPS to an old copy and all they say is your VPS has been hacked when it’s obvious from all the logs and version that it has been rolled back. Every issue you explain to them they would say it’s your problem. I can go on and on….
