I certainly don’t recommend their KVMs. KVM console access is broken and they don’t seem to be too concerned about fixing it. What is the point of selling KVMs if you can’t use the console or boot of different ISOs?

    • Hello,

When did you last try the kvm console as it works well.

  7. I got my first VPS with ChicagoVPS a few years ago after seeing an offer here.

Back then people offered differing views of quality/performance so I bit the bullet an signed up for 12 months to test for myself. My experience with ChicagoVPS is good. I have 3 vps with them, two OVZ and one KVM. Purchased one a few years ago in Chicago and since got a couple more.

There is the odd problem with the nodes that crop up once in a while and usually fixed quickly. I have to say my KVM node is rock solid with good connectivity and performance. IMHO the service I get is great value for money.

Still can’t rebuild system without putting in a ticket at least in the LA DataCenter. The cost is cheap but it seems like more of an issue than spending a few more dollars a year.

I can’t recommend them either. I purchased two VPS on a deal a couple years ago and while one has seemed to work ok..

Free monitoring is broken (can’t connect to database when I try to access it)
Second VPS I ordered has gone offline without explanation (all data lost)
Stopped being able to reinstall OS sometime last year
Opened several tickets over a span of 2 months trying to re-initiate VPS which would go offline almost immediately (minutes from email from support). Moved server to new set of IP addresses (after 3 or 4 requests and promises to do so) with random assigned password. Managed to update OS and then crash. Can’t restart/reboot/reinstall. Finally as of last month I had it with them and canceled that VPS. I couldn’t get a straight answer on what was going on. Noticed huge amounts of data being thrown at my server too. Approximately 300GB over a couple days. All I had was a single website with a static page on it.

The first VPS seems to run ok albeit slow at times. There was also some sort of data corruption problem which may be due to a faulty hard drive (can’t confirm) had to fix some corrupted sql databases on very low traffic sites (800-1000 hits/month). Pretty frustrated. Looking for another service for my other VPS now.

Same as the rest… haven’t been able to rebuild around half of my VPS’ from these guys in months… several of them seem to just get randomly booted every couple weeks… Support is always “try now,” followed by “we’ll rebuild it for you” and then the rebuild function never gets fixed… rather unimpressed as of late.

    • Michael:

Please reopen the ticket again,we will get it fixed.

      February 22, 2015 @ 9:16 am
    • Hello,

If you have any problems with rebuilding the VPS please just add in the ticket to pass it to Luc or to management and I will make sure it does get fixed permanently so that there is no problems rebuilding the VPS.

  10. Ashton:

I ordered a VPS from them the other day and paid for a year, unfortunately. It didn’t get provisioned within a half hour so I sent a ticket. Apparently they didnt have space and need to get a new server. I was given an ETA of 24 hours. 24 hours later still no server.

Not impressed so far, so I would say to stay away.

Don’t just walk away from these guys – run! I signed up for a Windows VPS and the password stopped working after the first reboot. Support wasn’t able to fix the problem (their solution was to just keep reloading it) so I eventually got fed up and requested a refund, which was shot down from every level of support including Chris Fabozzi himself.

I’ve used ChicagoVPS several times in the past and have always had a good experience until this VPS. It’s disappointing that Chris is willing to lose a loyal customer over just $5.21 while delivering a product that simply doesn’t work. I initiated a PayPal claim to try and resolve this – but who knows how that’ll go. What I do know is that ChicagoVPS won’t be seeing any more of my money after this experience. There are plenty of providers out there.

stay away from this provider, i purchased an enterprise vps from them. quad core 4gb ram and the thing was slower then my 1 core – 1gb vps from another provider. also it was supposed to have 80gb hdd space but it only came with 24gb… i had to open a support ticket just to have them fix that. after 20 mins of use i could not believe that this was a quad core vps and requested a refund and cancelation of service. they had no problem cancelling the service and are refusing to issue a refund. paypal is sorting out the claim right now. i would stay far away form this provider their vps suck!.

I’m having a very hard time with ChicagoVPS. Of the 9 virtual machines I purchased over the last six months, only 4 have survived so far: I moved the other 5 away from them after repeated random failures, like the VM shutting off for no reason and failing to reboot, or becoming very slow. Three days ago one of the surviving VMs was disabled for no reason at all. Today the same VM was down. So I guess I will move it away from them too.

I have been a long term customer and advocate of ChicagoVPS over the past few years.

I just purchased a node in February. I have not used it and it has sat for now. A month later I get an email stating the account has been suspended for “High Network Abuse”. I will assume the account was hacked?

I am not sure I am liking this business model of take your money, shut down first, and ask questions later.

I will see if they make good on opening the account up again. If not, then I will just become another person in the growing list of unhappy consumers and have my local bank do a chargeback.

    March 19, 2015 @ 2:12 pm
    • Joe,

You have to understand that this is all automated. Someone is not simply pushing a button and suspending your server. We would be happy to reload your server and open the account up again. To keep pricing low, we cannot allow this abuse and thus need to suspend the VPS.

      Regards

      Chris

      March 19, 2015 @ 8:15 pm
      • Joseph Cox:

I understand this is automated. I am not sure of the tone of your post and sincerely hope it is not assuming that I was abusing the server? The point being, I have not even used the server other than load an os and it was not active on the web. When I went to it to start working on it, a month later after purchase, it was suspended. This tells me the account was hacked. The ticket I put in was closed and the account was not reloaded as I was told it would be. I am still waiting for the account to become active.

        Thank you,

        Joseph Cox

They’re great when they’re working but just keep your fingers crossed. I was given an IP addresses range blacklisted by Spamhaus and after almost two weeks they’re still asking me to “standby” while they attempt to allocate some clean IP addresses.

    TICKET Ticket #NPQ-054901
HOW MANY DAYS DO I NEED TO GET SUPPORT FROM THIS PLACE? SERIOUSLY. I’m dumping all my business with this place and going elsewhere. This is just ridiculous.

Apparently the only way I can get support is if I start complaining all over the place because by going through the proper channels, like creating a support ticket does nothing. Pathetic.

They got bought out by ColoCrossing a few weeks ago and ever since that date, my VPS has been down constantly . I have a server on Illinois location. I am, now, looking at other companies to host my VPS with.

ChicagoVPS does not have phone support (which is fair enough for the price I guess) but they won’t reply to your high priority emails quickly. It takes at least an hour for them to respond.

Their control panel also has issues. A lot of my times, when I want to reboot my box, their control panel says “connection error ” so I can’t reboot the box. The past few weeks have been one issue after another.

I am assuming they are moving VPS or changing their infrastructure (or trying to drive out low end customers). I would not recommend getting a VPS from them. If you HAVE to get a VPS from them, wait a few months and see if things improve.
