  1. Do they offer refund? How about connectivity from Asia, especially from Indonesia, are they good?
    Really tempting offer though

I have 2 VPS from them for about 1 year. Very good hardware setup: multi cores, vmware, very fast IO, fast network. The price with coupon code is very reasonable. Support is fast during daily time but slow during nightly time (UK timezone). The response is helpful with no non-sense. Some months ago, they had problems on LA location but now they move to Quadranet datacenter, that’s good. Overall I rate them 9/10 (minus 1 because of support :)

I’ve had an Ubuntu Basic VPS with them for about six months. It’s been down 5 times for several hours due to bad memory, software upgrades and other reasons. After the third time, I asked for to be credited for my remaining time since I was dissastisfied with the downtime. They indirectly said no and said the hardware issues have been resolved. Needless to say, it’s been down twice since. They offered to upgrade my RAM for free for the hassles. Basically, I use the VPS for development and a secondary git repository. You get what you pay for.

    • Hi Mark,

Yes we did indeed have have have memory failure on one of our host nodes and it took a while to convince the Datacenter (as we were leasing equipment at the time) to replace the RAM (twice) and then the motherboard. Each time there was some unavoidable downtime.

We’ve since bought our own hardware and migrated to a far better Datacenter. There have been no issues after that. If you still are experiencing problems please open a ticket and I will take a look at it. Hardware issues are just one of those things that can go wrong. It’s only a matter of time usually, but when something goes wrong we always communicate very openly and honestly with our clients and try to minimise the disruption.

        Hi Kakashi,

I failed to mention that your company indeed notified me three of the five times. The VPS was a good value when it was up.

I was more displeased (and still am) about not being able to get a refund as I didn’t feel you guys weren’t delivering the service I paid for. A refund was warranted considering my VPS was on bad hardware. I basically see this as you took my money knowing I was on so-so hardware at a shoddy
LA datacenter and you didn’t want to refund it to fund real servers. I’m sorry but I’m one of your CUSTOMERS not the people who screwed you over at the datacenter.

        • Like I mentioned before some of these instances of downtime (if they happened) appear only to have affected you. If you opened a ticket when this happened we could have investigated it. I still may be able to but I don’t see a support ticket about it.

A credit was issued which was above and beyond what out SLA policy. This is what the SLA policy is there for. As you stated we also offered the option of free RAM upgrades for the life of the VPS if the client wanted to have that instead. Again above and beyond what is in our policy.

We would never knowingly put clients on shoddy hardware, doesn’t make sense for either party involved. Hardware problems are just one of those things that can hit a server it’s what happens after that is usually important. We took measures to change the hardware (and datacenter) you were on.

    @Kakashi

IF THEY HAPPENED!? Are you kidding me?

Here’s a mail excerpt about the RAID:

The Datacenter technicians have 100% confirmed and I have also confirmed visually this is a Raid Controller issue. Server boots but does not detect the controller and therefore does not boot into ESXi.

    Here’s one about the BBU:

Just a reminder the server is currently under scheduled maintenance for installation of the replacement BBU.

    Here’s one about the DDOS:

We’re experiencing a DDOS attack at our LA location. Working to mitigate it now.

    • This was meant about the two other times…

I did acknowledge the first three.

      January 26, 2013 @ 6:06 pm | Reply
    • So a Raid Controller and BBU failed, then we scheduled some maintenance a week later to fix the BBU side of the fault and finally the DDOS (which happened a couple of months ago I believe).

During the Raid Controller failure we offered clients the option to be brought back online on another node.

Scheduled maintenance to fix a hardware problem is not unusual. It’s also excluded from our SLA. After a hardware failure you can expect this to happen. DDOS attacks happen, part of the internet. We don’t offer DDOS protection at any level and when you’re on a shared resource which Virtual Private Servers are then you may be affected. Again it’s not covered by our SLA.

What you’re essentially demanding is to never experience hardware failures ever or be subject to any maintenance to fix any hardware issue and sit on a DDOS safe network. Sounds to me like you need to spend a lot more money on a VPS which as realtime Fault Tolerance and redundancy in place sitting behind some expensive DDOS mitigation equipment.

I had a look at the AUP, and aside from it banning IRC (which is disappointing, but somewhat understandable), this caught my eye: “The installation and/or execution of a script and/or binary that runs in the background or listens to any given port are also strictly prohibited unless written authorisation has been provided by a member of Corgi Tech Staff.”

I assume that this is either referring to the web hosting side of the business or unintentionally worded to be way too broad, but since the rest of the AUP seems to lack exceptions to this, even someone running a sshd without written consent is violating the AUP.

  9. Yes that is just for the shared hosting and not VPS hosting side of things. I will get that clarified.
Thank you for pointing that out.

    • Looking at it from here are both IRC and the “The installation and/or execution of a script and/or binary that runs in the background or listens to any given port are also strictly prohibited unless written authorisation has been provided by a member of Corgi Tech Staff.” both for the shared hosting, or is it absolutely no IRC on VPS and shared hosting?

Having Vmware as the Host Hypervisor and the resonable monthly service charges, attracted me to test the service. I found them so supportive and infrastructure so reliable that I hosted another VPS and still have my account with them. Now they have recently expanded their infrastructure and the service got better.

I would recommend them to anyone looking for a VPS with:

    – Control over Choice of OS even BSD
    – Highly responsive Network
    – No over commitment on host cause of the Host Hypervisor Vmware ESXi
    – A real good support with 95% request being replied in 24 hours or issues resolved in same time.
    – Good for Hosting the Mobile App Servers cause of reliability
    – Development VPS for any OS any Platform
    – The best of Resonable Price.

Corgi Tech got me into the VPS universe. I started with the smallest offering they had, which is cheap enough that I could afford to try out the VPS concept. Since that, I have added RAM and daily backup, and seriously consider moving from Basic to Standard. I trust them with my code repositories for development projects for my own customers as well as critical webhosting, and I sleep well at night.
Excellent uptime, a few defensible downtime service moments, but those are rare.
They answer their support tickets fast, typically withing 24 hours, even for trivial matters.

I used Corgi Tech once years ago and have regretted it ever since! I found them through a low cost server ad and purchased a 2 year contract. My VPS worked fine for about 6 months, until server problems. Then they moved servers and changed all IPs…it was a total nightmare. I complained about it, but after being serious jerks about it, they said that the Terms of Service says they reserve the right to change IP addresses at anytime, so they wouldn’t even refund AT ALL (even unused service portion). I just dropped them right there and never looked back. Sketchy company with lots of bad service…NOT RECOMMENDED
