Ah, good old HMB. Impressive offers. Used them many years ago and while the service was great, unfortunately had to cancel at the time as I couldn’t justify a vps then, and was unemployed.

Couldn’t say no to the 256MB offer. I’m happy to be back :)

    December 6, 2017 @ 1:39 pm | Reply
    • Well, good news for you because there’s no particular limit set in place on a per-customer basis as to how many you can order. :)

The special promotion as a whole is however limited by quantities and availability. But as long as you don’t see an out of stock message when ordering, then you should be clear.

    Hello,
    Price for additional IPv4?
If i want to get a free vps for testing and after continue the service if i like it i am able to add addons after for some price like now?

    Thank you!

    December 7, 2017 @ 2:03 pm | Reply
    • Hi Lucas! The cost for additional IPv4 address is $1.50/month or if you’re on an annual plan, $18/year.

To clarify the free month bonus offer for LEB is on top of your order. For example, if you order a VPS for a month, you get 2 months for the price of 1. Or if you order a VPS for a year, you get 13 months instead of 12.

We will always be happy to work with you on any future upgrades required.

Please do let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!

Proving the poor quality of HostMyBytes:

    Hello everyone,

Well, I have registered new here. I have been a guest member of this community for long. I always make it a point to go through this community reviews/suggestions/advises/etc while I pickup a host or an Internet Service. This time, I wish to share my experience with this company HostMyBytes. (You can’t post unless you’re a member & hence I have registered )

    Some preface:
It’s been almost an year that I have been a customer with them. I am fed-up with them now, and I am changing to another host as soon as my account expires with them.

    HostMyBytes Service – My experiences
I have two services with them. One being a VPS & one being a shared webhosting. I couldn’t resist an offer I had seen somewhere about a host sale & hence I went ahead with it. I did read this thread before going with HMB as well, but this wasn’t this long, then .

My service experiences with cPanel shared hosting (Just a few instances):
I had realised that the IP I was assigned is a blacklisted IP, and hence I was unable to send emails to major mail hosting providers. I had asked them to improve anti-spam features and assign stuff like DMARC, DKIM, SPF, EHLO, etc. In fact, during this tussle, I was given a link (which links to Office365 Adminstrators Troubleshooting for blacklist – which had nothing to do with my issue;) and was asked to go ahead & figure things out myself! What a shame. They can’t manage to ensure that their IPs are white-listed ones. And when they are blacklisted, they ask their clients to figure it out & resolve the issue themselves!? Such a pity! Anyways, it took them a week to set them all in order. I had to assist them and every stage, including what the TXT record entries should be.
They always have disk space issues, as if they are always running out of space & it keeps affecting the clients. Their support keeps pacifying the clients asserting that the issue wouldn’t recur, but trust me it happens all the time. In short, if you’re a client with HostMyBytes, you can’t depend on the thought – “everything would be working fine”. You have to keep monitoring the **** yourself everyday, almost every minute. And the worst part, they don’t seem to monitor their clients’ services functioning. Like say for eg, if they had worked on some maintenance issue over a node, post that they wouldn’t bother to check if the clients on that node are functioning back. So, it is like that unless the client opens a ticket. I keep facing this disk-space thing every now and then.
Their Uptime. Its certainly not as good as they claim it to be.

I had requested a change of node as well, but nothing of such seemed possible, I guess.

I have had no issues with the VPS, probably because I don’t need to depend on their support for anything. The VPS uptime has been better.

    HostMyBytes Support
I am sure many users might have been impressed by the – “within 60 minutes response” for support tickets, but that doesn’t add to the ‘Quality’ of support. They must have placed a group of men to simply respond to one’s ticket within the 60 minute deadline & keep the user on hold, until the technical support takes over. Well, that is absolutely fine, as I would see it as a competitive strategy. Fine, no complaints here. But they fail in maintaining a sound support team.
Just by claiming a 24X7 “very active” support doesn’t add a feather to their cap, obviously because their so called technical support team is damn dumb. I have been hosting with them since 1 year now & most of the support members have no knowledge on handling servers. On the contrary, the support members ask you the steps to accomplish the given task! It’s unfortunate that in almost every case that the support is clueless about proceeding ahead with any given task.

    Corollary:

Disclaimer: My intention of sharing this is not for bitching against HMB, I got nothing against them, in person. I have already paid for all my services. They have not cancelled/suspended any of my account(s), with which I might have had come here to bitch against them – like a few of you might think. And even if they’d, I’d consider better & legal ways to deal, instead of ‘bitching’.(Lol! ) So, No! Nothing like that.

Anyways, my intention is very clear. Just like me, there are many users here & many unknown guest users (I was one, earlier) who do visit this forum for taking decisions on which host/service they should rely on. In this Hosting/Internet Service industry, where every now and then we see companies coming up, it becomes very important to judge, determine & choose the correct worth for.
In short, if you’re looking forward to go with HostMyBytes, its definitely not worth it. Its not reliable, as you can never be in peace, that everything would be fine while its handled by them. If you’re HMB agent/management, please make an effort to improve the ‘Quality’ of your support & services.

    Cheers & Thanks!

Ugh, can I please have the last 5 minutes of my life back? I’m never reading a wall of text like this again lol. This almost sounds fake, but part of me wants to believe you’re a real person, and just don’t know what you’re doing. Real talk brother, this is an UN-managed server just like 99% of the offers on this website are UNmanaged.

If you want to take off the “un” and get managed support and service, please kindly pay the premium price tag and go with someone like futurehosting.com, you’ll be paying at least 10 times more but you will get the baby sitting that you need!

As far as HMB, they are fine. I have been a VPS customer since April. Nothing bad or anything worth commenting about to say about them. Service works fine enough for me to trust to use it in production, nothing else to say really..

    • Hi Henry! Interestingly enough, I just ran a client name search in WHMCS; and to this end, we still don’t have a client by the name of Henry. In point of fact, we have not been selling any shared/reseller hosting for quite some time, how long ago was this? We decided to stop pursuing shared hosting a while back, so we could better focus our efforts on providing VPS services.

Now that we’ve added more workforce to our team and have established our VPS services already, we will consider re-launching our shared/reseller hosting products in the near future. What location would you guys like to see this being offered in first :)?

Also – I’m glad to hear your experience with our VPS has been satisfactory. I would love to hear from you and work this out, my email is jonathan@hostmybytes.com.

I got one in Canada, and have been pleased so far. Only problem I have had was with ipv6, it took about a day for it to work properly. I never realized how much of a PITA it is to get OpenVZ/SolusVM to play nice with it until I started troubleshooting why it wouldn’t work. Lots of people trying to set that up and having it fail so for the price I think it is good even if it took a minute to work. I probably cost them more in troubleshooting time than they got from me, so I guess I’d better renew next year.

Unfortunately, they aren’t. The latest OpenVZ kernel is RHEL 7 (3.1.0) these are running RHEL 6 (2.6.32). I opened a ticket (431402) to have the kernel upgraded, or be moved to a server that is running a more updated kernel, and was told I would need to buy a KVM server if I wanted a more up to date kernel to run Docker.

        It’s a bit of a bummer.

I used the 4GB deal to run a Monero node, and they suspended my service within 6 hours for allegations of mining. I’m clearly disappointed. They still haven’t restored my service after I explained the situation.

    Hi @Jonathan,

A quick question (I can raise a ticket if you prefer)..

I have purchased a 4GB Global VPS Special, and I really want to run an Ubuntu instance with a GUI, to act as a development environment for me. I saw that the only choices were for Ubuntu 16.04, and I can install Xfce on this, but it is a little problematic.

Is it possible to install Ubuntu 17.04 desktop image on my instance, that I can RDP / VNC into and use software such as Visual Studio Code? I know it is not what this is really intended for, but I have been unemployed for a long time, with very limited funds, and this offer is the best way I can find to create a usable environment I can access from my low spec PC.

Thanks for the great offer! I wish I could purchase a larger instance, but the speed so far has been really impressive :-)

    Merry Christmas,

    David

Please disregard this – I have now installed MATE, and have a functional desktop environment.

It’s a good deal for the price.

I chose Los Angeles, and the VPS is a Xeon E5-2620 @2.00Ghz,(now with 6 cores after paying a little extra to upgrade). That could be better, but looking at the price, it’s an absolute steal.

Network latency is a little high, but reaches 100 Mbps download and 80Mbps upload quite comfortably.

So far, not a single problem. I would buy again.

Unfortunately, after a promising start, it seems that the servers have perhaps been heavily oversubscribed?

          Performance is now pretty unusable.

          I am using the 4 x vCPU (Xeon 2620@ 2Ghz), 4GB + 4GB vswap, 100GB RAID 10 deal. Located in Los Angeles.

A build of a Node application using webpack now takes 109 seconds, and memory is swapping when usage is only at 25%. I woke up to find the server was using more vswap than allocated memory, had to reboot it to get any sort of response.

By comparison, the same build several days ago was taking 38 seconds.

As a reference, the same build on Google Compute Engine, with an F1 micro instance (1 shared vCPU, 0.6 GB memory, 10 GB SSD) takes only 16 seconds.

I apologize about the delayed response to your pre-sales inquiry this weekend. These are really attractive promotions that have (and continues to) generate a lot of interest and inquiries, and the fact that it’s the New Year holiday does not help with the work load either. Several of our team members have taken some time off work in order to spend time and be with their loved ones. One of my friends/co-workers Aaron and I been filling in those gaps and doing the best we can to keep up with the work load.

Our fleet should be back in full force by Jan 2 – no staff member has any scheduled time off after that date. In the meanwhile, Aaron and myself are doing our best and we appreciate your patience!

Furthermore, I purchased a server in the Los Angeles location, but it was actually based in Wyoming. I honestly have no idea what is going on with this company.

      January 3, 2018 @ 12:59 am | Reply
    • Hi Rushil, and Happy New Year!

As indicated in the original LEB post, you must open a ticket with billing to claim the free month – it is not automatically applied. Addons are also manually activated, and the below snippet is mentioned in bold in your welcome email:

Please kindly note that if you ordered any addons during your order process, you will need to open up a support ticket to request those addons be activated.

I reviewed your support ticket and just to touch base on a few things here:

      1) There is a difference between MB/s (megabytes per second) and Mbps (megabits per second). It appears that you were confused and unaware of the difference between the two when performing your tests, and immediately jumped into the conclusion that our network was “slow”. Your speeds are definitely well beyond a 100Mbps port.

      2) It appears you were testing from a speedtest.net server located in Wyoming. Speedtest.net is designed for testing residential connections, not server connections, but irrespective of that fact, Wyoming is over 1000 miles away from Los Angeles, and lacks internet connectivity diversity. With that in mind, still impressive speeds from Wyoming to LA.

      3) Our servers are not located in Wyoming as you claim, I’m not even sure if there is a datacenter out there. It’s possible whatever GEOIP site you’re using has outdated databases. You can run a traceroute to confirm your server is indeed located in Quadranet’s datacenter in Los Angeles.

I’ve gone ahead and updated your ticket, please do communicate with me there so we can get a full refund/cancellation processed for you.

      Thanks,

      Jonathan

      • Rushil:

        Hi Johnathon,

        1) I made a simple mistake regarding that. I replied correcting that mistake.

        2) I ran speedtest-cli, which provided the exact same results as the 100mb test you provided, so it never made a difference, to begin with. More evidence for me to believe that the server was indeed based in Wyoming.

        3) No, unfortunately, ALL the GEOIP sites at the time, were finding the IP in Wyoming. I now see it has been updated since.

Furthermore, it seems as I did Indeed open a ticket requesting my order to be applied. Please note the subject of my Support Ticket: “My order has not been applied”. I opened another ticket requesting them to be applied.

It seems like posting a bad review makes someone “a customer that HostMyBits (pun intended) cannot work with.” That’s fine, it only speaks to the poor service quality you guys provide.

        Regards,
        Rushil

        January 5, 2018 @ 10:18 pm | Reply
        • Hi again Rushil – again, I can confirm we do not have any datacenter in Wyoming, as stated in my previous response, it’s possible whatever GEOIP site you’re using has outdated databases, and if that’s the case, there’s only so much that we can do till they update it, but that doesn’t affect the usability of your server at all. You can run a traceroute to confirm your server was indeed located in Los Angeles, California.

With regards to our decision to cancel your account:

You’re welcome to draw your own conclusions, however, there were other reasons which I won’t say in public (screening related) as to why our management have decided to issue a full refund and cancellation for your account.

We don’t blindly accept every customer, we do use a combination of FraudRecord, MaxMind, and a few other industry-standard tools to screen our customers and ensure we’re not taking on one that could impose negative behavior on our network. We won’t take on a customer who has previously been reported to be problematic, or one that would inherit risks to our company.

Best of luck to your next provider.

  55. Purchased 4 1 yr contracts on sale. I read the ToS carefully, missed the AUP completely. I set up a cpu-miner (throttled) on one of the VPS and it was suspended. I am fine with that I should have paid attention.

However support is refusing to cancel/refund the other ones. It has been less than 24 hours and I am stuck now. I can deal with the suspension, but this just feels greedy and shady. I guess that’s what I get for paying a year in advance.

Good on them, +1 to Hostmybytes for being proactive, this is a good sign that they care about keeping performance stable and that I can trust them with my websites, so I’m glad I signed up for a VPS with them a few days ago.

VPS is not meant for cpu mining. Please GTFO and stop ruining the community with your miners. Go get a dedicated server or colocate your own mining machines if you want to do that, instead of being greedy and ruining the performance for everyone on a VPS.

As far as my experience with HMB, well I can’t really say much but I do appreciate proactive measures like this. I only been a client for a few days but I’ve already got my sites up and running on it, and everything is running without any difficulties.

Not a customer nor do I have anything with HostMyBytes, but I work as a tech for another cloud hosting provider, and as a support technician the hardest part, well I guess you can say the most annoying and time consuming part of my job is finding CPU miners on a daily basis and suspending them. Ever since this whole crypto bubble started, the amount of abuse work I had to do has increased significantly. I honestly can’t wait for this whole crypto bubble to crash (and it will).

To the consumers reading this, and I’m sure every support technician working in the cloud hosting field can relate, please consider making our lives just a tad easier as support technicians and don’t run CPU miners on VPS. No VPS host is going to allow it, you will get caught, go get a cheap dedi server and run it on that that way you are in your own environment. We work very hard as it is, and you’re only adding more unnecessary workload to our plate when we have to find you, investigate you and suspend you. Just some food for thought and a humble request to all consumers reading this, coming from a single dad, support tech working hard everyday, barely making enough for the sake of making ends meet for my kids. Thanks for reading.

Hello, one question. Its possible to use tools like Syncthing? It uses BitTorrent so that’s why I’m asking. Some providers that block BitTorrent are fine with it others aren’t. It’s for personal use, sync docs, configurations, etc. between some devices I have.

    Thank you!

+1 for HMB – very good service and VPS. Only one thing to comment – I have a London VPS, but be aware that they don’t give you a “normal” UK IP address (like in the 80s.xxx.xxx.xxx). I’ve been given an ex-US ip, that’s apparently been reassigned to the uk (but not yet), so it looks like the IP is from Wyoming

Stay away from these, this is a scam! I bought a 4gb ram/ 4cpu vps from them and 2 weeks later they suspend my account.

Its a TRAP .This offer is a not a good deal. They have swapiness set 60. No matter how much free ram you have, it going to swap. And there is no refund. This is what I got from their support.

Per our TOS which you agreed to prior to signing up for our services, we do not offer a refund policy for special promotional packages. However, your satisfaction is extremely important to us – we’d like to work with you to resolve any outstanding issues and ultimately to make you’re a happy customer.

If you’d like, we would be happy to disable vSwap on your server upon your request.

Bad experience so far. The service seemed to be good. Suddenly after hours and hours of work to port my data into my database. My service was suspended because I was running my Node.js application at 25% of 100% the cpu allocated to me.
I just lost hours of work for no reason other than they “assuming” something wrong.
You have no privacy as they will tap into your server and look at your information inside your service at any time they want.
Your data is not safe and not secure and you can lose all your work without previous warning.
At the moment of this post, been hours from my ticket been opened and yet no answer.
So far bad experience to me.

    HMB are scammers.
They will state you violated their AUP and there is nothing you can do about it. They are liars and will take your money.
They stated that my service was terminated for high CPU (100% usage of what I paid for and have the rights of use) which is not true, if there was 101% then I’m out of my contract the way I see it, which in anyway was the case.
I have been monitoring my server since I received it. My script has been tested in many instances and does not overload the CPU or memory.

I have here two prints at different times and day to prove this was not overused.

    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=27z9546&s=9#.WlLz6XWnGkA

Basically, they want your money to have your server sitting idle.

Lowendbox should not allow scammers like these people to announce here.

    • Hi Andy, you stated 25% in your above comment, and 100% in this one. So which is it, seems like a mixed up story? What is your ticket ID? I tried to click on your images but ended up with a bunch of pop-ups and advertisements.

As we’ve gone over in previous comments, please also keep in mind that per our AUP, we do not allow cryptocurrency mining related services.

PS, we don’t terminate for high CPU usage, we only suspend. Major difference between the two words there :) Open a ticket with a note stating you will abide by our AUP moving forward, and we will be happy to unsuspend you without any penalties.

I am not doing any mining etc but wanted to understand in layman terms + if you guys kill the machine anytime? What are policies? I think they could use a bit better PR (i.e. they should not be promising things they can’t necessarily always deliver, like one-hour response times to tickets), but overall I’ve been happy, especially for the price. They may be out of stock right now, but they offered to notify me when other servers are available and they said I can migrate my data no problem.
