Top Provider Poll 2014-Q2 — The Results

Ladies and gentlemen: the moment has come! The votes have been counted, the results have been checked, and the winners have sent in the offers. The results for the Top Provider Poll 2014-Q2 are here!

First of all, let me thank you all once again for voting! This poll is not possible without our appreciated members who takes the time to vote and share their opinions about the providers they love. Just like the last two times, people had five votes to divide. They could give them all to one provider, divide them amongst providers, or give five providers one vote. This has proven to be a popular system for all members.

The special offers providers have sent in this time are quite something. I have to admit, there’s several exclusive and/or (surprising) new offers in here, so I’m sure you will all love it!

On to the results. By continued popular demand, I have listed the top 10 right here! Most of the hosts have sent in a special offers to share their love with the LowEndCommunity. Enjoy these offers while you can, because some are limited either by quantity or by duration!

And the winner is…

1. RamNode (139 votes)

RamNode_2014-07-24_10.59.24RamNode wins yet another Top Provider Poll. I must say, they are quite unbeatable having held the top position for quite a while now. Nick and his team have been running a stable business for a while now and have continued to do so the last quarter. They have recently expanded to New York City, bringing their total number of locations up to four. They also recently overhauled their offering, increasing disk space and lowering their prices (and no more coupons). To share his love, though, Nick sent in this new special (or well, regular actually, but it’s special because it’s new) offer which we’re able to feature first:

2. Prometeus (111 votes)

Xen PowerPrometeus, who doesn’t know them by now? Or better yet, who doesn’t have a server with them? While they already have various brands that complement each other and iwStack (the affordable cloud), Salvatore added Xen Power to the mix late 2013 to broaden their empire of awesomeness. Another Top Provider Poll with Prometeus in the top 3 means that are doing it right (I can personally attest to that!)! To share some love, Salvatore has sent in this special offer to celebrate their second position in this poll:

  • 2 CPU cores
  • 512MB RAM
  • 25GB SAS2 disk space
  • 2TB traffic
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • /64 IPv6
  • KVM/SolusVM
  • Coupon code: 2Q2014LEB
  • Price with coupon: €9 ($12.25)/quarter
  • Order in Milan, Italy
  • The coupon code also works for all their other KVM products!

3. Nodisto IT: Winity.io, Backupsy, VPSDime, Cloudive, Virtora (105 votes)

VPSDime-Cheap-High-RAM-VPS 2013-11-05 11-51-51Oktay has also been around for a while. He launched Winity.io last year, where he sells affordable Hyper-V based Windows VPS. But he is best known for Backupsy, his brand that gives you a lot of disk space for very little dollars. VPSDime is also unique with they big-bang-for-buck offers. Recently, they started offering free backups and offers with a 10Gbps uplink, within LEB pricing! This time, Oktay shares his appreciation with this VPSDime offer:

  • 4 vCPU
  • 6GB RAM
  • 30GB SSD space
  • 2TB bandwidth
  • 10Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • OpenVZ/Custom
  • Dallas, TX and Seattle, WA
  • $7/month

4. INIZ (49 votes)

INIZINIZ has actually sunk a bit and they can blame Oktay for that! Patrick has been running INIZ solidly for a while now and he’s doing a great job at that! Known for both his real LowEndBoxes and his big-bang-for-buck offers, he is quite popular in the community. He shares his appreciation with the community with the following offer from openvz.io:

  • 4 vCPU cores
  • 5GB RAM
  • 100GB HDD space
  • 2TB traffic
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4

5. Crissic Solutions (48 votes)

crissicSkylar has been working hard to make Crissic popular and he has succeeded! He’s been in the upper part of the poll for the second time in a row now. He is known for his competitive offers and his hard work. He owns all his hardware and equipment in his rack in Jacksonville, Florida, but also his IP addresses. He shares this special offer with the LowEndBox community:

  • 256MB vSwap

6. Inception Hosting (40 votes)

InceptionHostingAnthony launched LowEndSpirit last year: a real LowEndBox for just €3.00/year is just awesome!! LowEndSpirit is currently available in six locations world-wide, with Japan and Australia having been added recently (Australia is provided by Ransom IT). Inception Hosting itself has been running quite solid as well, with Xen-PV servers in 4 locations world-wide! But there’s a big surprise… To celebrate this success, Anthony has shared the following bundle with you, which is OpenVZ-based and features the virtualizor control panel:

  • 2x vCPU core
  • 2GB RAM
  • 1GB vSwap

  • Order here

7. DrServer (34 votes)

dr.Server_-_Custom_Virtualised_Solutions_-_Home_-_2014-04-20_07.23.00DrServer is another wizard when it comes to being a good provider. With his unique brands and even more unique web designs he is quickly gaining popularity in the LowEnd market, but I believe also in the VPS market in general. Last time they came in tenth, but they’ve definitely made a jump up this time. Their focus is on Xen and they have several brands, among which is AbusiveCores, which gives you a dedicated CPU core for a LEB price. DrServer shares his appreciation with you by means of this offer from their XenStorage brand:

8. Digital Ocean (31 votes)

Digital OceanDigitalOcean is known for their rapid-to-deploy boxes and their pay-as-you-use model. With an SSD KVM VPS for just $5/month in the USA, The Netherlands, the UK, or Singapore, they do indeed have competitive offers! Various templates are available in order for you to rapidly deploy a specific application, all within their custom panel. This is their LowEnd-priced offer:

  • 512MB RAM
  • 1 CPU core
  • 20GB SSD disk space
  • 1TB bandwidth
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4 address
  • KVM/Custom
  • Price: $5/month
  • Order here

9. BuyVM (27 votes)

BuyVMBack from the lower parts of the list is BuyVM! Another established LowEndProvider, BuyVM, comes in ninth! BuyVM has recently initiated an upgrade of their servers, giving everybody free upgrades to SSD space. On top of that, inbound traffic is now free as well as nightly backups. No special offer from BuyVM, but their normal offering isn’t bad either. For example, this 512MB OpenVZ server:

10. Catalyst Host (26 votes)

catalysthostCatalyst Host is a first-timer in the Top Provider Poll, for which I would like to extend my congratulations! We all know Catalyst Host very well from LowEndTalk. It was started by friends Ryan and Jarland, with Jarland taking a step back next year and Ryan getting assistance from Don. Catalyst Host is known for their transparency and sane offers. They share their appreciation with this special deal:

  • 1 CPU core
  • 512MB RAM
  • 20GB HDD space
  • 3TB traffic
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • 12x IPv6
  • KVM/Custom
  • Coupon: LEBSEATTLE (30% off for life)
  • $30/year
  • Dallas, TX or Seattle, WA

Final note

This concludes the listing of top provider for this poll! Again, thank you all for voting and enjoy these amazing offers!

Prometeus is a nice host, uptime was 100% on my VPS that I had there for like 6months. Customer service is awesome. Everything is awesome. Prices could be better, but my main criticism of prometheus is they only offer Bank Wire and Paypal as payment methods. If they had bitcoin or Master Card as an option I might still be a customer. If you are looking for very good uptime on a VPS (which is something you don’t get at many hosts) then pick prometeus.

buyvm is already old school. They need to seriously update their offerings with more ram and everything at a cheaper price. They have not changed their pricing since long I can remember- probably since LEB / LET started (more than 5 or 6 years ago).

    July 24, 2014 @ 3:47 am | Reply
    • We considered it but we would much rather compete by features instead. Features are much harder for people to copy and even harder to copy well.

A lot of the votes for these polls are because people ask for them on twitter, email blasts, IRC, #lowendbox, etc. I’m sure if I put out a tweet we would place higher. With that being said, we haven’t had a post on LEB in well over a year.

Now, we know that some people don’t care about the extras and would rather just have a cheaper price. We get that.

We also remember all the tickets we used to get of people deleting files they didn’t mean to and being upset when we didn’t offer backups in our pricing. Theres many other features that we couldn’t offer if we cut prices a bunch.

Thank you to everyone that voted for us in this and every other round and a big congrats to all the hosts that partisipated!

These results are fairly clean when it comes to “Social Media Accounts” as I deliberately raised the number of posts required to vote to exclude those “sleeper” accounts. For the last two polls, yes, I definitely agree with you. Not for this one, though.

        July 24, 2014 @ 7:36 am | Reply
        • I’ve been going back/forth with this reply since i’m trying to write it in a way that doesn’t state “You’re handling this all wrong” or any sort of put down since you’ve done everything in your power to keep it fair.

The social media spamming has been going on since early 2013 if not late 2012 even, it’s just that now it’s “allowed”, so more providers do it out of fear of losing their spots.

Anyway, It’s still asking for votes and reminding older people that may not have been posting. Now that you’ve put in a 10 post minimum limit, it just means someone could hire some people off fiverr to make some accounts and post random crap. There was a huge case on WHT where someone was paying fiverr people to post reviews for them whenever there was bad reviews posted about them. You could literally time your watch on it — Once a bad review landed, within 24 hours a good review would hit that would claim all the points of the bad one were incorrect.

I know you put a minimum 10 post limit but it might be worth it to poke around some of the entries and see how many were active posters prior to the top 10. It’s probably just excessive paranoia but there was lots of votes in the past which were begged/swapped for.

Thanks for the work and I hope this didn’t bust your knee-caps out too badly,

Even DO has a $5 per month 512mb ram now- go figure. When before nobody can match buyvm with their pricing.

        July 24, 2014 @ 9:08 am | Reply
        • Sure, without backups, private LAN’s for the longest time, no proper IPV6, no management, etc :) DO is all venture money — it’s easy to shop/offer big things when it isn’t your own money.

Lots of people copied our pricing back then, it’s just too many of them lived off yearly deals to try to sustain themselves. They didn’t invest in the things I wrote many posts on LET v1/v2 about. It wasn’t like any of the ideas/feedback I gave was leading anyone down a bad path — It was things like “Get your own IP space and own your hardware if you can. Restrict your growth if you have to, just to make sure you aren’t blowing every dime you have”. Many others DID follow what I preached and are around to this day with a nice nest egg to live off.

We don’t target this market much anymore and don’t target this community at all. While our pricing is still competitive, we hope to work towards other things like full management in the coming weeks. We’ve rolled out free inbound bandwidth a few weeks ago and moved all 256MB+ plans to pure SSD’s w/o any sort of reduction in resources. Those same plans got full nightly backups among other things, with more on the way as I can think it up.

I apologize if you were with us but then wanted a better deal. I just don’t see us decreasing our pricing with everything still the same. Maybe some day I’ll make a ‘super resources’ brand since I got some nice domains sitting in my inventory, but that won’t be any time soon.

Thanks for the interest and past support if you gave it!

Strict isn’t the problem. Amazingly rude and unhelpful is the problem. And not such a “hard time” at all. You just found one. There are a lot of us “spamming jerk offs” out here.

    Would not recommend, Prometeus.net / IperWeb.com / OverZold.com

Closed my account and would not even allow me
to BackUp my account after more than 2-Years of
paying them with punctuality on time ever time !

When I mention that I would post to LowEndBox.com
about it is when they terminated my account from suspended
to terminated, very NAZI-Like / GOD-Like attitude, STAY AWAY !
