XenPower - 1GB RAM, 120GB Disk, 2TB Traffic for $6/month in Milan and Dallas

Salvatore, from Prometeus, sent in an e-mail regarding the launch of his new brand: XenPower! XenPower offers high-resource servers for a very reasonable price! XenPower was started because Salvatore once purchased the domain (xenpower.com) and still hadn’t done anything with it. What better to do with it than offer some great Xen servers! These servers are hosted on a host node with dual Intel E5-2620v2 CPUs, 128GB of RAM and 12x 3TB SATA hard drives in RAID10! This happens to be Prometeus’ first deployment of servers with SATA disks (all others are SAS, SSD, or SAN) and I have to say, the speed is very good! We all know Prometeus: most reviews are very positive, support is fast, and the customer always comes first! Please share your own experiences with XenPower in the comments!

The offerXen Power

  • 2 vCPUs
  • 1GB RAM
  • 120GB Disk space
  • 2TB Bandwidth
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4 address
  • 2x IPv6 address (/64 on request)
  • XenPV/SolusVM
  • Coupon: XENPOWER25
  • Price: €4.42/month or +/- $6/month
  • Order in Milan
  • Order in Dallas

Prometeus accepts payments via Paypal. VAT, at 22%, is added if you’re an EU citizen/company without a valid VAT ID. Prometeus is a registered LIR (RIPE NCC member), which means they own their IP addresses. Like noted above, an IPv6 /64 is available for free on request. No refunds are offered. For more information, have a read of their Terms of Service.

Looks like a pretty decent deal, especially with the generous amount of disk space. Most other offers would be 60-80GB at this price range.

Especially like the fact you can get the same deal outside the US – this will continue to be important for citizens of other nations not wanting to host their data inside the US.

      Thank you :)

This was one of our problems, people were comparing other providers offering SATA storage with our SAS/SSD/SAN which was, obviously, lower, at the same price.
Now we are offering SATA too but this is top range with many disks and a good raid card.
However, please remember we offer free FTP/secure FTP/HTTP/HTTPS back-up space for free to all our customers (sure, non-budget plans such as Biz ones benefit from larger storage).

I can assure you: I have multiple VMs with Prometeus and its brands in different locations. XEN, OpenVZ and KVM. They are on different nodes, of course, and they ALL are “the best”. No matter what drives, no matter what Virtualization, Prometeus simply rocks.

We had to perform maintenance just a month ago and took it down after some 500 days of uptime. SAN is better, but even that must be upgraded. We are now upgrading the SAN and some latency is seen.
Pm20 and pm21 are still counting the 500+ uptimes :)

If you are the guy with KVM1103 yeah it is stuck in D state, we cannot shutdown the node to solve this issue, too many people would have downtime, seems that the last upgrade introduced some bug in KVM.
Salvatore is dumping your data now, it should be started some other place soon. Sorry for this issue, Murphy hit you hard, it seems, Xen never needed restart, though, after the time bug in 2012 I think.
We will compensate you for this. Please make a reasonable request in the ticket after it is done.

Is Bittorrent (legal) and Minecraft server allowed?

    January 19, 2014 @ 12:10 pm | Reply
    • Maounique:

Yes, everything legal and which does not abuse resources. If you BT is pounding disk at 40 MB/s 24/7, it is not ok.
Game servers are allowed, but DDoS is not. If you receive attacks without using our DDoS protection, the server might be suspended/terminated.

      • David:

Do you have DDoS protection on these plans? I do not see it as an option. If so. How much is it?

        January 20, 2014 @ 5:52 pm | Reply
        • Maounique:

          Hello !

We didnt route DDoS protected IPs to these servers and it is only available in Italy, anyway, but we will consider it if there is demand. It looks lie people do not care and prefer to be blackholed after attacks and hope it does not happen again.
          A filtered IPv4 costs 9 Eur/month.
However, this means speeds will not be great and there is a bit of extra latency. The filtered traffic totals 200 mbps.

Tempting for the 1GB RAM, but the 512MB on my current KVM there does the job (for a bit over $6/month), and it uses SSD. I’ve had Prometeus service since Oct. 2012, and I’m on pm14.

If you go to the XenPower.com site there are tabs for Italy, USA, and USA SSD. The USA tab has the same regular SATA HDD plans as Italy. I think they were just added within the past couple of days.

I’ve had one of the Dallas SSD plans for a couple weeks and picked up a Dallas HDD plan yesterday. They all have IPv6.

I think the Dallas IPv6 is tunneled through HE until they can get native with Incero but it works just fine for me.

How is the DDOS attack protection? and server uptime status

    January 24, 2014 @ 3:14 am | Reply
    • Maounique:

We only recently started offering DDoS protection. It applies only to certain plans for now, but we plan to extend it. It protects fro 10+ Gbps and 1 nil+ pps Over that treshold the IP is nulled for an hour.
As for server uptime, we just deployed them, the plans were launched a month ago.
      Example uptime (KVM):

      [root@pm20 ~]# uptime
       16:47:03 up 601 days, 21:12, 1 user, load average: 9.44, 9.61, 10.01
You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root
      /pre>

      Other Xen plans node:
      [root@pm12 ~]# uptime
       16:49:22 up 457 days, 20:06, 1 user, load average: 0.13, 0.11, 0.05
