Hello, is this possible to install linux on the KVM vps? Also, it possible to configure the CPUs to host passthrough instead of QEMU (for AES-IN instructions) ?

    Thanks.

does the 5GB OpenVZ Linux VPS support cpu intensive tasks?

    January 16, 2017 @ 5:50 pm
    • What sort of tasks are you looking to run?

      January 16, 2017 @ 5:58 pm
      • Gudeos:

tasks that pull 100% cpu most of the time

        January 16, 2017 @ 6:05 pm
        • I would advise against it and would recommend a smart server @ https://www.chicagovps.net/services/dedicated-servers

These will allocate you dedicated resources like CPU etc.

          January 16, 2017 @ 6:08 pm
          • Gudeos:

why would you advise against it? will using 100% cpu get my service terminated? don’t see anything regarding it on the AUP

            January 16, 2017 @ 6:14 pm
            • Just being courteous in case you do get suspended due to any issues, don’t want to steer you in the wrong direction bud :P

AUP indeed does reference a “VPS Hosting – CPU Policy”.

              We wish you luck!

              January 16, 2017 @ 6:18 pm
          • Gudeos:

indeed it does, sorry. dedicated servers have too many resources and too few cpu cores. thanks anyways…

            January 16, 2017 @ 6:26 pm
            • No worries at all, if feel free to PM me on LET here if you require my personal assistance!

When I try to order an OpenVZ box, it defaults to Chicago and Buffalo isnt an option in the dropdown. Are those servers available in Buffalo? 1000MB test file is twice as fast from Buffalo as Chicago for me across my tests. Thanks in advance.

    January 17, 2017 @ 9:39 pm
    • Buffalo = New York location.

      Enjoy!

  12. when will ChicagoVPS support IPv6?
come on guys, it’s been 20 years since IPv6 was first being drafted, there’s no excuses any more.
take a look at some of the interesting things that IPv6 makes possible: https://indico.uknof.org.uk/event/38/other-view?view=standard

Any chance you’ll stock this Win KVM offer again?

    March 16, 2017 @ 2:55 am
  14. Jim:

How have you all found the service and support? I was going to buy a KVM in Chicago, but during the checkout process I saw that they don’t offer Debian 8. They said they can manually install it for me, and that’s okay, but I’m concerned that once it’s in production if I have to rebuild it quickly I’ll be out of luck… Are they responsive?

I have been using their “4GB KVM Windows VPS” for 6 months now, not a single issue or downtime :). Excellent service and value for money. Have not seen any other such Windows VPS offer yet. Want to buy another one, but no stock! :(
