I have already purchased their 2 Master Reseller Packages and 1 OpenVZ VPS (from previous offer). Their support is awesome, even on weekend, they take not more than 5 – 10 minutes to answer. Most importantly though their package value is cheap, the overall performance of their hosting is fabulous.

When placing your order, you’ll see the available options, including this one, which would only be $1.50 per year. (If for example, you wanted the $5/year plan, it would be $6.50/yr with SSH access).

Please let me know if you have any questions I can address, or feel free to sign up and take advantage of this special (and if or when you do, just let us know so we can provide the complimentary additional month of service that is included with any special ordered before the 17th!)

I see many positive feedback here… but outside this forum.. only negative reviews exist. I am skeptical that these reviews are real.

    June 14, 2017 @ 1:10 pm | Reply
    • Your theory can also be applied the other way around, can’t it? ;)

Positive or negative, there’s always going to be bullshit floating around the Internet. The company I work for is in the SMM (social media management) industry, and I’ve seen time and time again companies and individuals promoting bad press about their competitors all the time. The problem with the whole game of competition is that people get too complacent. You’ll be amazed at the extreme lengths some will go to make their competitors look bad (same applies when it comes to politics and religious matters… there will always be the bad guys promoting black press in order to influence the public against another organization or belief).

For whatever my words are worth :-) I have a WootHosting reseller account (and I can provide proof!), and while I haven’t had any issues with it, I also have another reseller hosting account with HostPapa just as a back up. If things appear to be stable a couple months down the road, I’ll consider switching entirely to WootHosting as it is more sense, cost wise.

  15. OpenVZ Linux VPS Promotional Special – 3GB:Can I host my WordPress website with this plan?

    June 14, 2017 @ 3:46 pm | Reply
    • Hi Aasif Ganaie,

We have a great number of clients successfully running their WordPress-based sites on our OpenVZ packages (some are running on even smaller packages than our 3GB promo). That being said, website requirements are (to an extent) individualized, however, we certainly have a solution that will suit your needs.

I’d definitely recommend signing-up and taking advantage of this promo — in the event that the site does not run up to your expectations, just let me know and I’ll personally make sure you’re taken care of =)

So I figured that because I am also customer of this company I could write a short review too (you can compare to Alpharacks https://lowendbox.com/blog/alpharacks-shared-cpanel-hosting-linux-openvz-windows-kvm-vps-los-angeles-ca/#comment-691750 ).

I have a low-end VPS with them for about 4 months now. I did not do much on it yet, apart from some testing. Well, by testing I mean in a nutshell that last few weeks I regularly reinstall the VPS (on purpose :)) which takes about 2 minutes, and then run an Ansible playbook against it to set it up from scratch. It always worked for me without problems, it is responsive and network speed is OK. Everything from purchase up to today was smooth sail.

They also have newer OS templates, like Fedora 25, which is uncommon on OVZ hosting.

I tried the 75GB one for about 24 hours. I ordered SSH addon. It was not be activated after 20 hours. So filed a ticket for activation. After some time it was finally active. I could not, however, connect to SSH port 22. I got error messages to putty (no login prompts at all). Tested it with a standard linux SSH client from a real server as well. I was told to check the firewall. Firewall on a shared IP??? WTF?

Finally I got fed up and canceled my account. Apparently there was something wrong with the network/sshd setup at the server end but I had no time to continue testing and filing new tickets.

Okay, after my half-a-dozen messages and testing the SSH should finally work. There was a problem of some sort they solved in a few hours. The start being like this, however, I cancelled my account and will definitely not be back.

    • Hi MKV,

I do sincerely appreciate the feedback you’ve provided, however, I am terribly disappointed that your experience with us was troublesome – this of course, is not the way we want anyone’s experience with our services to be. I would like to personally address this, if you provide me with the opportunity I would be thankful. If possible, please send me an email at your convenience, I’d like to certainly (and personally) review the matter in depth, fix what happened internally, and find a way to turn your experience and impression into one that is positive, if allowed the chance.

I can be reached at jason@woothosting.com – if given the opportunity, I surely will be respectful of your time =)

I do look forward to hearing from you, thank you again.

I have sign up the “OpenVZ Linux VPS Special – 1GB” to migrate my RTMP Stream server from a VPS from France to a better latency one. But is impossible to work with it!
I think your node is overloaded, I use for live streaming and now I getting timeout errors from client side, the streaming software retries the connection and after stops and I getting headaches from my clients.
I want a refund, because the service not meet my requeriments and not meet the ads. I am on 72 hours periode.
I already open a ticket and has cancelled the service on panel.
Your tech support is amazing, but for this time, the service it´s not reliable for me.
    Thanks.

please read past threads about this company, their OpenVZ service is very bad, this overload servers show overselling.

      June 15, 2017 @ 2:40 pm | Reply
      • Hi Mark,

I certainly appreciate your feedback and the assistance you are providing to the community. I am the first to admit that periodically there are issues with any type of service, OpenVZ based services are certainly not exempt. With OpenVZ, as you’re most certainly aware, some of the resources upon the node are shared between clients. While a multi-tenant environment is certainly one that can only be planned for to a certain extent (based upon experience and best-practices), there is a degree that can not be planned for by any hosting provider (without inefficient over-building), since clients do different things, at different times.

For us, there is truly nothing worse than being accused of overselling, which I understand a lot of providers do (or have done), and therefore, there are a lot of people in this marketplace, and in this community that have first-hand experience with being on an oversold service.

As a hosting provider offering OpenVZ based VPS, we know it’s inherent that we will have to tackle this concern, proactively implement operational practices to avoid accusation, and address issues appropriately when they inevitably come up. We are constantly overseeing the performance upon nodes and expanding the number of nodes in production. Furthermore, we do proactively address abuse and we do assist clients that report issues. Sometimes these are client-side issues, which even then we frequently resolve albeit these are self-managed services; other times these issues are addressed by moving clients to a node with a lower current load (the issue with “current load” is obvious… server load changes constantly). These are measures that we employ to combat performance issues that are inherent with OpenVZ nodes.

In short though, I did want to make sure I thoroughly addressed this concern, and emphasize that we do have options available for any clients that are experiencing issues. We do have a great number of clients utilizing OpenVZ based services that are satisfied with performance (I know this personally, and I also see positive feedback from some of our clients here), but I also understand that issues arise at times for this type of service, due to the nature of how this sort of technology works… and for that, I want to both acknowledge that we’re aware of these issues, and I also want to let the community know that we are always here to address them in a client-centric way.

On a side-note though, if there’s ever anything you’d like to discuss, or if there’s ever anything I can personally assist you with, please feel free to reach out to me – jason@woothosting.com – it’s through feedback that things improve and so I appreciate any that I get.

I ordered a OpenVZ server and 2 KVM servers a couple months back during one of their earlier promos. First, they were all in LA but I moved one to Miami when they made that location available because half of the times in the year, I am in Fort Lauderdale. Migration was rather easy and they helped.

At some point my OpenVZ server started having issues like what others say here due to loud neighbors, but that got sorted out with support. I use my OpenVZ for backups.

My KVM instances which are the ones running my important websites, never had any problems with those.

I see some others here complaining about OpenVZ, but OpenVZ is a problem at almost every host I have used. It’s always prone to abusive neighbors compared to KVM or XEN. I have been with 4 different VPS providers in the past and the OpenVZ is always problematic for this reason. It’s cheap so I use it for backups, but I recommend KVM for anything important. The problem I see is mainly how people have unrealistic expectations.

    June 16, 2017 @ 1:42 am | Reply
    • Hi cheapwebdev!

I do apologize for the delay, but I did want to make sure that I addressed this, both for you, and for the benefit of the community here. The resources that we allocate to you, with any of our packages, are provided without restriction, in the sense that you are able to do whatever it is you wish to do with it. Each and every client has different needs, and with that, if such a requirement is a necessity for you, it is certainly something that we would not prohibit you from doing.

    June 17, 2017 @ 2:28 am | Reply
    • Hi Mathew,

Additional IP addresses (IPv4) are available at the standard rate of $1.50/month (so effectively, with annual pre-payment packages, it would be $18/year).

While lower cost per IP rates are achievable with larger (bulk) orders of justified IP space, the $1.50/month rate is what the rate would be an additional, or a small handful of additional IP addresses.

Not sure what your problem is Mate. You have been trying to oversell (or atleast indicated in your post) If you have an issue, being specific might help the community. This is also a low end self managed system. So, expecting performance of provider X seems unfair.

    Hi all,

Seeking advice before ordering from Woothosting. I have 3 ecommerce sites for a small town to create possibly using a VPS server. I’ve only used reseller hosting in the past. There is not much of a budget but well worth to me.
    1) Small stock photography site -(less than 20K images)
    2) Small lifestyles site – (fashion, beauty, cooking, etc.)

    • Hi Wayne,

Assuming the storage expectations that you have for your sites is compatible with the two plans that you’ve highlighted, either package should be suitable (and if in the event that once placed into production, the chosen plan is not working satisfactorily, there are certainly options that are available — with either virtualization technology, to address the matter that surfaces).

While both packages may be suitable, KVM based packages are considered more premium due to the increased extent to which sources are allocated in a dedicated manner. Essentially, on a KVM based node, more of the resources that will be used for running your services are reserved for you and you also have fewer neighbors. In a production environment, this generally means a more consistent quality of service.

In short, based upon the use case, and assuming that both packages would be suitable from a resource and budgetary perspective, I would recommend the KVM package.

If there’s anything else that I can assist with or address, please let me know – I can be reached directly at jason@woothosting.com

Can i ask for a test ip for reseller hosting?

    June 20, 2017 @ 4:51 pm | Reply
    • Hi Irwan,

I’m pleased to see that you’re interested in our reseller hosting packages – they are located in Los Angeles, so the network test IP that would be reflective of latency and whatnot for any of the services that are running upon a reseller-hosting node would be: 198.55.111.5

Please feel free to utilize that IP and if there are any questions (including any that pertain to the results of your testing), please feel free to contact me directly to discuss – jason@woothosting.com

      Thank you!

  40. @Wayne, you can use KVM VPS without any issue.

Suppose, you’re owner of a dedicated server. And you want to create VPS using SolasVM you can do it. But your dedicated ‘s RAM is only 16 GB, Storage 100 GB, Bandwidth 20 TB, CPU 4 Cores. Then you can create a lot of OpenVZ VPS plan with any specifications. Because OpenVZ allow server owner to oversell.

In the other hand, Creating a KVM VPS using SolasVM doesn’t allow oversell. The dedicated server owner can able to create real specifications. If he had 16 GB of RAM, he can’t able to Sell a KVM VPS with up to 16 GB RAM, As like that, he will not able to provide you 101 GB of storage if he had 100 GB of free storage.

However, my suggestion will be for you, not to buy OpenVZ VPS, Directly buy KVM VPS.

I note in your terms of service that proxies and bittorrent sync are allowed, but P2P is not allowed.

If a VPS of yours runs a torrent client but that is using a proxy into europe or elsewhere, how would you ever know?

I fully understand why using the IP you give us for torrents, especially publicly hosted, is not allowed.

    • Hi jjcoolaus,

Overall, our ToS are designed to abide by laws and some of the time-tested “best practices” aimed to provide the most benefit to clients residing upon a multi-tenant environment. While we do mention some specific “don’ts” — there certainly are, as you can imagine, a great number of use-cases that fall within a gray area.

In essence, we do not want activities that will hurt anyone, get clients in trouble, or negatively impact other clients upon the node. We certainly understand there are some particular ideas or uses that would fulfill those requirements that may, at first glance, seem prohibited — but with that in mind, we make ourselves available to discuss any desired use-cases with clients (at anytime).

But for the sake of addressing your question directly, if it’s not something we could know about — it’s not something we would know about — unless those activities get brought to our attention somehow =)

Signed up for the OpenVZ 1GB special in Miami but have been unable to run a basic application like Dropbox due to issues with the container locking kernel options. To get it to work I need to change two options (https://askubuntu.com/a/248012) but I’m unable to run the commands or edit manually due to the container locking kernel changes (https://serverfault.com/a/596570). I’ve never once ran into this issue (and I have two lower performance VPS from two other companies) and the fact that I don’t have any control to fix it is quite a let down and means I’ve essentially bought something I can’t actually use. Usually I’d wait for a ticket response but the fact that I even need to send one is just a disgrace in the first place.

In OpenVZ your limited to the limits that the provider has setup for its VPS, normally they assign some fair limits.
If you wish to fine tune those limits, your only option is to go with a KVM or Xen-HVM based vps.

    • Hello AFordy!

I do first off, sincerely apologize that your experience with our services did not meet your expectations — unfortunately, some of the use-cases and whatnot, that require kernel specifics are incompatible with the kernels that run upon our OpenVZ nodes. For such requirements, when they are, we do recommend KVM based packages that allow you more control over such matters. Of course, some other providers have their OpenVZ kernels adjusted differently, but we seldom make global changes to the kernels (unless it’s security related) — as we do not necessarily wish to impact other clients that reside upon the node.

All that said, if you’re willing to give me the opportunity, please send me an email so we can discuss the nature of your request and requirements in more detail — even if you’re no longer a client, I’ll make it worth your time — I certainly appreciate that you did give our services a try – I can be reached at jason@woothosting.com

Hello, I would like to order for a low-end VPS service, but I have several questions:
    1. Do you guys have fair-use policies? My previous VPS provider has one and it is implicitly planned.
    2. How was the latency? From here(HK), I got 200ms for the previous VPS. I hope it can be lower.

It seems too good to be true, but if it is good enough, I will recommend my colleagues to migrate to you.

    • Hello bckps7336!

Thanks for reaching out and providing us with an opportunity to know of what you’re interested in / looking for. I’m pleased to hear that you’re considering our services.

      To address your questions:

We do have fair-use policies, both on our KVM and our OpenVZ services. Clients who are needing consistent or perhaps heavier resource requirements are advised to consider KVM based plans for their applications. OpenVZ packages are great, but you would be on a node that has more neighbors, therefore, fair-use, from both a company and client perspective is more of a consideration on such nodes.

Latency to HK is probably going to be best in our Los Angeles location — as you’re likely aware, the latency and network performance (anywhere) fluctuates, and while we do have lots of clients that reside in HK and utilize our services, each client is unique and has certain expectations and requirements. We do offer a 3 day money-back guarantee on services that allows you to evaluate performance and see if it will work for you :) I recommend trying that out — there’s no risk involved.

We do appreciate those kind words — we do try to make our offers attractive and beneficial, particularly to this community. We aim to provide a great value to clients and so we’re excited to hear that you’re interested in our services and that you might even be willing to recommend our services to others =)

I signed up for a reseller hosting account yesterday and as the comments in this thread say, the addons need to be setup manually.

I wanted to transfer my account from a previous hosting supplier to WootHosting so I submitted a ticket for this. This request took over 12 hours which I do not have a problem with. However, the level of service provided, both from the server and the customer support team is poor (in my opinion).

I asked why the server was down after providing a server uptime link and was told “Now the server was up” and to make a new ticket for the issues I stated in this ticket originally.

I would highly recommend you stay away from this company as these are signs of more bad things to come later down the line.

Hi, what proc did you use? and is it dedicated or shared?

    July 5, 2017 @ 12:39 am | Reply
    • Hi Yusa! Great question and I’m happy to answer it.

With the number of years we’ve been in business, along with some processor-based nodes being better for particular services we provide, we do — as you can imagine, have a wide array of processors in use. So here’s the short answer and the long answer =)

Short answer: Most OpenVZ based services are running off of late generation Intel Xeon E3 processors. Most KVM based services are running off a wider-array of processors (but they’re all running on dual processor (quad core, hex core, or octa-core). Some are Xeon E5xx series (the dual quad cores), some are Dual Xeon E5-26xx (dual hex and dual octa) — most are later generation/versions, regardless of what we’re speaking of here.

Long answer: We have clients that are extremely interested in the specific processor that is behind the services that they either plan to have with us, or have with us — for a variety of reasons — some based upon preference, and others based upon use-case requirements. We ALWAYS try to accommodate client requests. We understand that some applications run best on single-threaded environments, others on multi-thread, some with high clock speed threads, others more flexible, some with certain Intel architectural features.

Re: dedicated or shared procs — it depends on the virtualization that is being utilized. With OpenVZ, you can consider these “value-oriented” services to be “sharing” available processing power of the node. With KVM, resources are more “carved-out” specific for you, therefore, they can be considered more-so “dedicated”. On an OpenVZ node, you typically have more neighbors than you will on a KVM node.

Again, if there’s ever anything that you’re particularly looking for, just let me know — send me an email at jason@woothosting.com with whatever you’re looking for and I’ll let you know (and be respectful of your time).

Thanks again, I look forward to hearing from you!

  55. I agree with what Bullshit has said above. They are using 8-core servers (most likely 4c 8t) on their Reseller hosting. And the CPU usage on it is at 10.xx on average, spiking even up to 20.xx at times, to top it off, the server uses up SWAP. I’ve been asking to be transferred to another , hopefully less-crowded server for a few days now, but I’m always getting a “we’re working on it” kind of reply. And no, not working on moving me to another server, it’s supposedly working on lowering the CPU usage.

At this point, I’m asking for a refund. I’ve tried e-mailing Jason but I haven’t heard from him yet. Be wary.

There was an issue with server60 which also impacted me for a short period of time, it was apparently due to a Litespeed issue. The matter was resolved in under an hour for me, so I’m not going to complain. An hour resolution time on a Saturday is very respectable, and shows that they care.

The bloody truth is – it doesn’t matter which hosting company you go with, shit happens, its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. No web host is perfect, especially when you have multiple servers under your belt, and I’m not going to expect the world for my $5.00 per year reseller account. There support has been plenty quick enough for me, and helpful. It’s good to know that when issues do arise, they are there to help.

The funny part is I pay WootHosting $5.00 a year for my reseller, and I have faced better uptime, and overall performance/support compared to my $12/month reseller with JixHost. Guys just remember you are paying pennies per year, and you’re going to get more than what you pay for here. Don’t expect everything to be flawless, life isn’t flawless and neither is any such hosting company.

In conclusion, a happy camper here.

Is proper IPv6 support planned? i.e. a /64 rather than the 30 so-called addresses indicating lack of understanding of how IPv6 works…..

Signed up and got my account on July 15. Monitoring since July 16. 96.59% uptime, 4 hours of downtime across 6 “outages”.

Support said “We are migrating server please be patience it will get ready in few hours.”. Issue keeps re-occurring. I’m also on server60.

I’ve gone with budget providers before just to host my personal website (static and small) and had reasonable luck with them. I asked to cancel and for a refund today and was told the same migration story. I’ve kept my personal site on $5-9/yr shared hosting for years and I would not recommend the $5\year plan here. It may well just be an issue with the one server (server60) but this is unusable. At the time of writing the load on the server is 18.96 (8 cpu). I didn’t have high expectations but the service has still fallen short.

  64. Email has now been down for 4 straight days. The email services were stopped on July 17th because they are migrating. Everyday the migration moves forward by 5%.

Day 1: We are migrating to a new server. 40% complete, please wait a couple of more hours
Day 2: We are migrating to a new server. 70% complete, please wait a couple of more hours
Day 3: We are migrating to a new server. 80% complete, please wait a couple of more hours
Day 4: We are migrating to a new server. 90% complete, please wait a couple of more hours

Now all sites are down completely for the last 3 hours.

All this after they had issues with Server57 last month and went through 4 and 3 days of downtime and moved us to Server60

All my sites now return with “403 Access Denied”!? Anyone experiences the same?

I opened a Support ticket and they solved my 403 error within 5 minutes! Very impressive!

        • You do know that all emails on server60 have been down since July 16th. I just got a response from Support (July 21) saying that they are still working on fixing email. Five days of no inbound/outbound email.

    • I finally migrated all my customers off Woot yesteday because my customers were super angry. They did not announce or provide updates, etc. As of right now, they are still broken. No emails working, etc.

    Hi Jason,

Please take a look at server60. It has major issues like server load even more than 50. server60 response time is quite high. Average more than 1 seconds. Even sometimes more than 2 seconds. Often, database error does not load any website at all. e-mails are not working either. Google webmaster tool has a lot of URL not reachable error for my clinets.

Here is a message from support.
“We are working on optimizing current host node. It will be fine in few days.”

Take a look at the server load. More than 56% and 35%

Nobody can survive with these circumstances. One of my clients canceled two web development projects due to this because his old website is not performing good. A heavy loss for me.

Please make a positive announcement or shut down this server. It is spoiling business.
