Scott from BigScoots sent me an email about their recent pricing update. 50% off everything on their fully managed VPS hosting packages. Their lowest end offering is now $6.95/month that comes with
- 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
- 5GB storage
- 50GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
Order the above package here. Servers with Continuum Data Centers in Chicago IL. Scott mentioned that “The kicker is the fact we offer full management across all of our VPS services in addition to FREE UNLIMITED IPs!”. However “full management” does not seem to apply to the two cheaper packages (they are willing to provide as much support as possible though, according to Scott). And unlimited IPs?! Must be from an alternate universe where the availability of IPv4 addresses is infinity. Pricing wise it is very 2008, i.e. not enough bang for the buck in 2011. It does have a nice website, although nice looking website is usually not a requirement for stable service (i.e. prgmr or ramhost).
Domain registered in April 2010, and pair of DNS run on the same box. Business run by Scott and Justin from Florida. And I hope Scott is not sarcastic when he mentioned his place of residence.

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
Wish I had a van to live in…
80’s rocked…
$6 with 128 and 50gb of data. hm… go back to 80 again
There is a certain level of quality to expect from BigScoots thus the potential differences in price from what you fine folks have come to expect here at lowendbox. We provide the unlimited IPs with the understanding that we will not solely drain the IPV4 resource. As we continue to grow we will continue to provide IPs free of charge providing they are used for reasonable purposes and not just sitting idle.
We don’t claim to provide full management without cPanel as there are certain third party applications that give us a run for our money, but as our current customers can attest to, there has yet to be an individual or issue we haven’t resolved in a timely manner and considered full management in every sense of the word.
and… the scottstapley.com will provide you with a fantastic SNL quote that everyone should come to appreciate if you cannot recognize the origin 🙂
So, BigScoots I need 60 IPV4s IPs to host various websites, think you can give me them?
This is waste of money and a big rip off. They are asking for a lot and offering so little, you can get XEN 128 for way cheaper. Also, there are no unlimited IPs!
Well that would be your opinion, however, I can assure you your notions are unfounded. If you don’t have experience with fully managed VPS’ then you wouldn’t understand the different cost brackets.
… and I can assure you, you will not use more IPs then we have available. Therefore relating our IP offer directly to yourself, yes they are in fact unlimited.
I actually kinda like the offer. Provided the service is indeed 24/7 and top notch (for that money it better be), there are certain scenarios which make this offer attractive.
F.e. if you want to do webhosting and offer your a free ded. IP with each hosting account for SSL or even bundle it with a SSLcert you resell for a profit and all that. Since IPs on VPS can be very expensive and some providers even have a limit on the total IPs you can have …
IP limit is there for a reason — because we are running very short of them?
As of SSL. Well just move to SNI and force all your customers to upgrade to Firefox/Chrome or Windows Vista/Windows 7 🙂
