Tags: , , , Date/Time: October 29, 2010 @ 5:25 am, by LowEndAdmin

ChicagoVPS Jeremiah from ChicagoVPS emailed me their exclusive offers a few days ago. Two different packages can be ordered to get special discount:

  • VPS — Starter (Sign up link)
  • 128MB memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • $4.45/month (promo code LEBstarter) or $53.17/year (promo code LEBstarteryear)
  • VPS — Standard (Sign up link)
  • 512MB memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • 2 IP addresses
  • $6.45/month (promo code LEBstandard) or $81.22/year (promo code LEBstandardyear)

Xen/SolusVM solutions, servers in DuPont Fabros Datacenter outside of Chicago IL and are backed by ColoCrossing’s Reliable all Cisco Network. They seem to have some pretty recent Linux distro — Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14 for example, although only 64bit versions are available. From their previous post here they have just started this month. Domain is registered by Chris (a Velocity Server sales/support guy) and Jeremiah (network guy, tech support and many other hats).

  1. I`m also looking for a Chicago based VPS (prefer semi-managed cPanel). Any other companies with a DC in Chicago?

DuPont Fabros Datacenter is pretty good one. I don’t know what kind of hardware grade the provider is using?
The data center is in near by Chicago international airport and pretty solid data center. Rackspace uses that data center.

  7. What version of XEN they’re running? If 3.3+, I’m pretty sure they’re overcommiting RAM..

    October 29, 2010 @ 4:31 pm
    • I think it would be silly for low end Xen/XenServer providers NOT to overcommit their memory as after all, most servers are under utilized.

However overcommitting under Xen is very different from overcommitting under OpenVZ.

      • I agree, but overcommit with moderation, and not allocating resources they will not have spare. :-)

        October 30, 2010 @ 3:18 pm
      • @dicarsio, We are not overcommiting RAM, what you buy is allocated to you and just you. Just wanted to clear that up :) We believe in quality!

  9. now “Out of Stock”…

    November 1, 2010 @ 2:11 am
  10. @Lei

We are currently out of stock because we are not going to push our machine to hold more than it is allocated for. We are working on getting several other physical machines up to hold the demand that we currently have for our services.

Myself and Chris do apologize for this, but we do hope to have at least one machine up tomorrow and more coming online quicker than this one.

    Thanks,

    Jeremiah
