    I had a vps with them and I must say there are many better providers out there. The support really is horrible, which means they don’t want to understand a single word you say.

    Sure for some things a swiss based vps is quite useful lets say for watching internet tv via wilmaa/zattoo but I would never host any website on one of their vps again, ever.

    Another quite annoying thing is that they reboot vps’es about every three weeks, which was also mentionend in another CHVPS offer on LEB. In addition there were some network downtimes, which was rather a small problem compared to the interaction with the support.

    Please mind, that this was my experience with them. There maybe satisfied customers out there, but I wasn’t sorry.

    These fine gentlemen leaked all customer names and email addresses in a email from their sales department.
    They sent out an email with like 1500+ names and email addresses CC’d on it. Their company tagline is “Enhancing Hosting Privacy” yet they don’t even follow that principal. I have already been spammed by another hosting company that harvested all the names/emails out of the CHVPS/PrivateLayer sales email and am expecting more on the way.

    So when signing up with these guys I got punished in two ways, first I got a shitty vps and second they leaked my name/email out to god knows who.. Thanks Privatelayer!

      This was a mistake that our marketing department made. We have apologized several times regarding this. Only a portion of our customers email address only were leaked when someone forgot to click bbc instead of cc. We admit to it, and it will not happen again.

    If you want to abuse the hell out of a provider then you’ve found the right people!

    They ignore *ALL* Abuse reports if its phishing , malware or outbound D-DoS attacks from there network.

      You guys are great. Half of you complain that we suspend too quickly, the other half complains that our boxes are too abused.

      That whole thread is a pretty interesting read, glad that the company who harvested the names/emails got

      Just have a try yourself ;)

      I cannot give you exact dates of downtimes, which is why I say that I personally wouldn’t suggest them for serious things. And unfortunately I also can’t post any of the support tickets here as I am not a customer anymore. Just trying to give you an impression for what purposes their products are useful and for which they aren’t.
      When I got me one of those I also read in a LEB comment, that they do frequent reboots (once a month) and thought “why would they do that”. And indeed there were reboots and downtimes for hours without even a short notice, which annoyed me so much that I changed to Prometeus in the end.

        Well its very easy to just say a host has bad support, then put your hands up with no proof.

    I had with Privatelayer.com a VPS in Panama. It was small cheap VPS which was really stable but also really slow. Still enough for squid, ssh, mail etc.

    I can’t understand something:

    – previous offer was: 35% off ==> price $2.59/Month for ‘Cirrus 1’
    – this offer: 60% off ==> $3.99/Month for ‘Cirrus 1’.

    It seems that their prices have risen more than twice during the summer :)

        We were one of MANY hosts that hosted dedicated servers for Hostrail. Why are you associating Hostrail’s business techniques to us? We simply rented dedicated servers to a reseller that hosted Hostrail. We had no direct contact with Hostrail at any point of the relationship.

      Sure we will change our name because a bunch of trolls hang out here. The same people who were terminated for abuse, or for not paying. My responses were:

      1. We are sorry for the mistake of the email
      2. Show us the proof of bad support
      3. We are NOT hostrail
      4. People are complaining about a VPS being up still after cancellation, we asked for the IP

      How are these deflecting comments? They are as direct as can be.

      We have over a 1000 happy VPS customers, and more dedicated customers.

        You should go and check your support system like you checked this thread. It will be much easier to just brief your employees how to tread customers. Ok I tell you about this one case.

        The most inconceivable thing I experienced was to shut down my vps because of the high load it produced on the node. I(!!) opened a ticket instantly and asked you to please reboot it because it produces a high load and I cannot reboot it via your control panel, so there is something obviously broken. Then you replied, that this node has been suspended for 48 hours because it abused the ressources of the node system. I then replied to your employee that I know it produced a high load, which is why I am here so we could fix this together (remember, I couldn’t reboot the vps via the control panel so it was a problem on your site, too). But then the only thing you could say was that I(!) could fix the problem after 48 hours suspension.

        That seriously was the worst handling of a problem I ever experienced. By the way many of my questions were ignored by the staff in that ticket..and as I say, James, that is my experience with your hosting company. I don’t doubt that there are happy customers out there, but shurely 90% of them never had to have contact to your support team (luckily).

        • sebbep:

          Have to add: I opened the ticket about 10 minutes before they shut down my vps, so it even felt like a double punishment. First punishing a customer for reporting an issue with the shutdown of his service and then second for punishing him with a 48 hours(!) suspension. Thats really inacceptable.

    I’ve had a VPS from CHVPS since february and I have only good experiences.
    The VPS has been running really stable without too many service breaks.
    I have also nothing but good experiences about their support, I was even contacted proactively when they wanted to know if everything was running smoothly and if I had any problems with the VPS.

    Just to balance things a bit, I’ll describe my experience. I’ve bounced around various providers over the past few years, changing when I’ve seen a better deal or the provider has p*ssed me off in some way. I’ve now been with CHVPS for just shy of 12 months now & I’m happy enough which should tell you something. I’ve submitted a couple of tickets that were handled well, their bandwidth and machine performance is good and while the service isn’t super stable (I’ve had to reboot about 3 times in the 12 months) for the price, I think it’s a good deal. To be honest my only regret is going for 20GB rather than the 40GB option which I can hardly blame them for.
