Whereas Rackulous is mainly focused on Xen machines, these ones are actually KVM. Like Linode and other companies, Rackulous is venturing into KVM. Whether or not they will make the full switch in the future is something I don’t know. For now though, this is an offer in addition to their Xen machines, and I hope you’ll enjoy these as much as their Xen offering. And it’s likely hard not to with these prices – I’m likely even picking up one myself.

Not much information was shared on their hardware, so you’re in for a surprise there. These machines do come with IPv6, though, which means they are future-proof! Any feedback? Please share it in the comments!

Payments can be made using PayPal only, though credit cards through PayPal are accepted. You get “unlimited” IPv6 addresses, which probably means you can get as much as you could theoretically need. I’m unsure whether this means you’ll get a /64 (like you’re supposed to), but there’s only one way to find out!

    Folks,

    Thanks for the posting!

Just to answer the few questions raised above:

Nodes – All of our nodes use enterprise-class hardware with RAID10 Arrays using SSD RAID10 caching
IPv6: We do support native IPv6 and can provide a /64 subnet if required. We’ve done this since 2010 :)
    Test IPv6: 2a02:2658:1011:1::face
DC: It’s in Redstation (now owned by ioMart), down on the sunny south coast of England.
    Time to provision: Instantly

Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    Cheers

    Jonny

Just wondering, is the price gonna stick forever (at least for users that sign up now) or is this a special, limited-time offer? In case of the latter, what’s the full price after the promotion ends?

      Hi Tom

We’ve been in business since 2010 and have had many postings on LEB/LET since then. Nothing sketchy going on here!

These prices are low as this is a new product launch so we’re trying to attract the LEB community in!

      Thanks

I bought one yesterday. Didn’t have time to play with it, but the reason I bought was their network seems to have good ping to my location. Raised a support ticket asking for a /64 and was answered by Jonny almost instantly. Here is a benchmark test.:

Is it also possible to get a “real LowEndBox”, i.e. let’s say 512 MB RAM, 15 GB HDD, 2 vCore or similiar at 1.00 GBP per month?
I am searching for a small backup KVM VPS (DNS, SMTP) but only need about 300 MB RAM for it so the 1 GB KVM is overkill for my needs.
I also asked this through their support system one day ago but did not receive any response at all yet.
Just good to know that their tech support for existing customers seems to be a bit better..

Well, if you want that your outgoing mails arrive at your customers then please properly setup your mail servers (i.e. configure proper reverse dns records for your mail servers). That’s why I did not receive your mail.

I cannot use your support system to view my tickets. Your system does not allow any registrations without ordering something which isn’t useful for pre-sales questions.

To avoid paypal eating up your money, paypal micropayment or especially attractive quaterly and/or yearly contracts could be an interesting option.

      Hi There

I am sorry to hear that. It’s most likely due to a router between you and our serveres, as using the “standard” Cachefly test, we get around 396Mbps, which is excellent for HTTP. Also make sure that your NIC is set to VirtIO.

We use SSD caching (using bcache), so benchmarks are almost useless in getting a feal for real life performance. Reason being, is that benchmarks use sequential writes, which bypasses our SSD caching (goes straight to disk). During normal use, the caching comes in to play, leading to a lightening fast real-world experience.

We don’t believe in turning our infrastructure for benchmarks. We believe in tuning our infrastructure for awesome real-world usage.

Ok, so what you are saying is not true at all. Your server was not down “for days”. You only signed up 2 days prior to your ticket. We answered your ticket in good time and all that was needed was for you to hit the Reboot button in the control. As such, it is clear that there was no problem with our node or network in this instance.

Also, we have been doing this since 2010. We used to be branded as something else (see the LEB ad), and that started in August 2010, and have many loyal customers still with us since then.

No, we aren’t doing “fraud”. I don’t understand where you get this from. You VPS needed a reboot. How is that fraud?

No, we don’t answer the live chat 24/7. It’s not a service that is provided 24/7.

Also, just to make it clear, we have also provided you with a full refund and cancelled your VPS as per our 10-day money back policy. That’s not really fraud, is it?

          GUYS ,

They gonna cancel your VPS at any time and you will lose your data.
DO I NEED TO GIVE MORE PROOF ?

No, cancelling your VPS is not fraud. I think you need to refresh your definition of the word.

We don’t cancel because of bad reviews. We do cancel (and refund) when a wrongfully says we’ve taken their money and not provided service to them. This is not the kind of relationship we want to build.

          FIRST,

THE VPS WAS NOT WORKING BECAUSE OF SOME UNKNOWN ISSUE THAT THEY CLAIM TO BE FIXED BY REBOOTING ( AM I THAT STUPID TO CREATE A SUPPORT TICKET WITHOUT DOING SOME TROUBLESHOOTING ? )

          1. THE REBOOT BUTTON WAS NOT WORKING, MAY BE THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE CONTROL PANEL, I DID REBOOTED MY VPS FROM THE CONTROL PANEL SEVERAL TIMES BUT NO LUCK, NOTHING HAPPENED.

          2. I DON’T GET HOW A FRESH VPS CAN GET INTO THIS TROUBLE,

          3. I SEE THEY WERE ONLINE FROM THEIR WEBSITE AND PINGED THEM BUT NO ONE REPLIED.

          4. CREATED SUPPORT TICKET BUT NO ONE REPLIED FOR HOURS ( I WAS EXPECTING REPLY FASTER BECAUSE IT WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING )

          5. LAST I DECIDED TO POST ON LowEndBox…

AND BECAUSE I POSTED ON LowEndBox,

          1. HE CANCELLED MY VPS WIPING OFF MY IMPORTANT DATA, NO FRESH BACKUP WAS THERE, I TAKE BACKUPS EVERY WEEK.

          2. DELETED MY ACCOUNT, SO THAT I CAN NO LONGER CREATE ANY SUPPORT TICKET OR VIEW ANY DETAILS RELATED MY VPS OR ACCOUNT ( WHAT IS THIS ? )

SAYS THAT WE DELETED YOUR ACCOUNT BECAUSE YOU WERE UNHAPPY,

I GUESS INTENTION WAS TO DELETE DATA AND TAKE REVENGE…

BEWARE BEFORE POSTING ANY BAD REVIEWS ON INTERNET, YOU WILL GET SAME TREATMENT,

YOU MOTHER FUCKER GIVE MY VPS BACK YOU BITCH, IDIOT, ASSHOLE

            Hi Vivek,

            Few things:

            1. Stop posting in caps, it’s not getting you anywhere.
            2. You were cancelled due to repeated false acquisations and abusive language towards our staff on this, our live chat and the support ticket system. We do not want to do business with people like you for these reasons.
            3. We are not robots. We can’t be on our live chat 24/7.
            4. We appreciate any sort of feedback, good and bad. It means we know were we can improve our service. We certainly do not kick people off for bad feedback.
            3. We have cancelled your VPS and refunded your money. There is nothing more we can do other than wish you the best of luck in providing a provider that works best for you and them.

            Thanks.

PS from the TOS you agreed to:

Unless a separate Backup Package has been taken up by you, you agree to be solely responsible for any backups/data replication of your data. As the services are provided to you on an unmanaged basis, you are entirely responsible for any data stored on your VPS. You agree not to take any action against The Company in the unlikely event of any data loss.

          ;)

The fact that the service provider is offering to provide you a tarball backup is defiantly above and beyond what i would consider based on your abusive attitude on LEB

I decided to stop my website , He offered me a tarball but I was not able to do anything with that..

Seems like a great company, and the image is good, but I mistakenly planned to use this VPS to host game updates (I’m in the US). The updated image with the UK apt repos is really helpful for speeds in that direction (10x improvement or so!), but that doesn’t help when you really need to transfer data quickly to/from the US. All in all, very very good deal if you’re in the UK, be careful of your expectations elsewhere in the world.

I should note that my personal network connection isn’t what it could be sometimes, and showed a much better speed in a retest today. Plus I tested from a VPS here in the US with a good connection and got very good speed results, so YMMV. Ping is not great if that’s something you’re concerned about (180ms for local and 113ms for VPS), but in latency-sensitive situations that much physical distance will always be an issue. Looking forward to re-running some analyses after the infrastructure upgrades!

We didn’t rebrand due to any bad reviews or anything like that. In fact, we actually openly announced it to the public that we were going to do this, in the name of transparency: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/40440/evorack-will-become-rackulous

We didn’t rebrand in order to hide anything.

Hi just thought id leave a review for these and I must say they are by far the best hosting company i’ve had. I normally spread my vps hosting out over 3 to 4 different servers but their 4GB plan offers me what I need in one server with plenty of resources. The pricing is awesome too. There was an issue at the start where the node I was placed on had issues but these guys kept in contact and offered me a move if I wanted, they even went a further whole yard to help me get a freebsd image mounted so I could use my own custom os, however I did go back to their available images for simplicity for them and me if any more issues arrise. I get constant emails off of them which aint a bad thing as it’s good to know they are there and still trying to make this service better. Very highly recommended and Jonny is putting a lot of effort into this service. Well done guys.

Since signing up I have had issues with this provider, firstly it took a day to get setup as they didn’t have the hardware online… not sure why you would take orders without having resources but I waited and was setup late the next day.
Getting tickets answered was quite quick to get rDNS setup.

Currently though I seem to either be on a very unstable node or someone on that node is causing alot of issues, so far I have had to complain almost daily and each time I wake up I see that my VPS has been rebooted and uptime is in minutes..

The issues I’ve had so far:

    * Network speeds being very slow.. 500k/s! from quite local servers.
    * Random ping times jumping from around 20ms to 2000ms for around 10-60seconds and then dropping back down.
    * Packet loss when running a mtr to another node. (they claimed this was due to the setup of their host’s switch and that they are aware of it, so maybe this is not packet loss, not investigated much more)
    * CPU very very slow for long periods of time, running commands and anything interactive is painful.

Even as I type this I have a uptime of less than an hour, no communication as to why and what they are doing.

Having a VPS that can’t stay up is not very useful and I hope this is really going to get sorted out.

Also just to note I was with them when they were evorack and they did give very good support and I had no issues back then, only reason I moved was I needed another location.

Well Rackulous’s response to my issues is that they know about it and that I have to wait till their new nodes go live at the weekend…
Not very good to be signing people upto..

So order with caution… might not be able to use your VPS until they decide to say their new nodes is ok…

Please also note this is not to bad mouth them or should not be taken as if, This is totally my experience with them thus far.

      Hi Tylexcon

Yes, I fully appreciate the problem you are having. This node you are on is causing us problems, and we are constantly fighting with it to keep it online. You may be wondering what we are doing to fix this long term. As you have alluded to, we are starting a massive node and network upgrade project this weekend. We are replacing these older nodes with brand new ones, and also updating our switching/routing equipment. This will definitely resolve the problem you are having.

We have many other customers on other nodes of the same spec as yours, as they aren’t causing any problems. Unfortunately, your is causing trouble, and I really appreciate you waiting for us to fix this, this weekend. Unfortunately, I can’t migrate you over to another node, as they are all full. You will also note we’ve stopped taking orders.

I’m sorry for these issues, but please bare with us.

Just wanted to add about the mtr: The packet loss you are referring to is the mtr to our providers switch. It has always been like this since 2010 when we first opened at Redstation and is not indicative of packet loss to our own network. Their switch is just configured mark as a low priority ping/mtr requests. This is outside of our control. You’ll note that packets to routers and either side of this are fine.

      Thanks

As others have said, this is very much a one-man-band’s pet project.

I bought a VPS at launch, and it’s had over 30 critical problems resulting in a good few hours of downtime. There’s scheduled downtime at least weekly for host kernel or hardware updates and random VPS reboots or disk crashes at all other times.

It’s clear the hardware is being thrashed by customers, it has poor contention ratios and is not a stable platform. I have never had a reply to any of my emails.

If you don’t care about uptime, you’re happy for disk and CPU usage to regularly go above 90% or lock completely, don’t mind a busy network, and your servers can handle several unexpected reboots per week, go for this provider. Otherwise, it’s worth picking someone else and hoping us remaining customers can fund this guy into creating something stable for next year.

More than a month without reply on my ticket. I would avoid. Unfortunately, because price is really good.

My VPS has been down for several days. No response from anyone at the company, and their portal is down.

Pretty sure this company has folded.

Hands down, this is the worst LEB I’ve ever ordered, and I feel a complete idiot for paying for a yearly plan.

      Hey Rob,

Just curious what plan did you purchase on a yearly plan?

Same here, i’ve got two vps services with them and one of two is down, host is unreachable which leads me to believe that this company is folded and/or aint paid their bills and have been disconnected. I plan on getting my money back from paypal until they make contact.

I gave them all the good praises when they advertised this service but what can I say now than other to keep away.

Absolute scam in every way. They are a pump and dump. No response to support tickets and they are down for now. My money says they were a second tier cyber criminal support system. Did they do it on purpose? I don’t know. All I can say is they do NOT honor the 10 refund policy. They have ZERO control over anything and the servers are just garbage with wildly inconsistent resources.

One thing I don’t understand is why they would waste so much time. I know I’m reporting it as fraud and I am 100% certain Paypal will return my money. It is a shame, really, that a company like this has managed to rip off this many people. Don’t be a victim, stay away from the products and have nothing to do with these clowns. They are such a pathetic operation they didn’t even respond to an immediate termination request on the service. No communication and zero understanding how to manage the infrastructure. You get what you pay for but at the same time I don’t think any of us expected much more from these prices but I seriously doubt all of us paid the money expecting to be treated this poorly.

If you are in the jurisdiction you should file a report with Action Fraud. actionfraud . police . uk

Ticket ID: 659563: Just to say, ActionFraud in the UK will help resolve the issues for locals, last comment is being held in moderation so I just wanted to make sure I posted this. They have made no effort to resolve any issues. This was a huge waste of time and money.

I’ve been using these guys for some time before and they were good, but recently I’ve ordered a new VPS on their billing and it’s already 7 days that my VPS is “pending” installation. I’ve sent various tickets but they were completely ignored. Here I took some screenshots to show you these guys are possible scammers now: http://i.imgur.com/Q5ShiKX.png http://i.imgur.com/LoVzdSf.png
