RAID-0 Now Available in Mumbai, India: Namaste, Vultr!

VultrIf you’re looking for a YOLORAID setup in the subcontinent, look no further than Vultr, who recently announced a location in Mumbai, India.

This is their 25th datacenter (!) and their fourth in Asia, joining Seoul, Tokyo, and Singapore.

Subhash Choudhary, founder of Dukaan, some sort of Indian software platform that no one has ever heard of, says:

“It’s incredibly exciting that Vultr has opened a location in India. We already use Vultr for our edge locations across the world. With a data center location in India, our home country, we will be shifting a lot more workloads over to Vultr. The price-to-performance ratio, ease of spinning up on-demand bare metal servers, and first class BGP support makes Vultr a perfect choice.”

All right, enough corporate propaganda.  Congrats to Vultr.  The Indian hosting market is growing and both Digital Ocean (Bangalore) and Linode (Mumbai) are already there.

Oh, and the RAID-0 thing…

That’s a long-running joke on LowEndTalk resulting from a thread years ago in which a Vultr rep declined to state that Vultr doesn’t use RAID-0.  In reality, whether they do or not is not all that relevant (you’re paying for an SLA, not details of how they achieve it), but it’s an old community gag.

Personally I’ve used Vultr for a number of years and have had zero problems.  For a long time, they were one of the few “big shops” that allowed you to run your own non-Linux ISO and they specifically built bridges to the OpenBSD and FreeBSD communities.

Good luck in India, Vultr!
