ChicagoVPS - $6.50 1GB OpenVZ VPS in Chicago

ChicagoVPS Wish everyone had a great weekend. I’ll try to make some catch-up-posts so these will be quick. Chris from ChicagoVPS is bringing up a new node so here it is — some new offers from them. Grab one to help Chris to fill his node up.

  • Starter (Sign up here)
  • 256MB memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • $5.50/month with promo code 256
  • Standard (Sign up here)
  • 512MB memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • $60/year with promo code 512yr
  • Professional (Sign up here)
  • 1024MB memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 1500GB/month data transfer
  • $6.50/month with promo code 1024

Servers in Chicago with ColoCrossing (where LowEndTalk is currently hosted but with eNetSouth). Test site for download/traceroute tests. ChicagoVPS has now been around for > a year. As for the 1GB VPS offer it’s actually the same as last time. I believe that there is no burstable memory, but still pretty good value.

I might as well comment on this…

My experience with ChicagoVPS has been a bit up and down. I bought an instance when they had their last special. Long story short, VPS was horrible for 3 weeks (technical problems, etc).

However once I got put onto my current node, everything has been running perfectly. I’ve actually bought another instance on the same node. All that I can hope for is that this node isn’t where all the new guys are going :)

Here are some tests for people:

    [root@chicago1 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out

    • Adam,

I am glad we changed your mind, and yes I will admit last month was a disaster with that node. Failed hard drives, multiple abusers, etc. Long story short it was a nightmare.

Since then moving everyone off to a separate node everything has been perfect like you said. You current node is at capacity and we will not be adding any more to the current node your on.

      Regards,

      Chris

I thought this VPS would be a bit iffy because of the price, $6.50 is a good deal, but it has been rock solid since I have had it.

  3. I have 2 vps with them. You can traceroute on my site just to be sure that I’m hosted with them. It had been rock solid. Found them through LEB, really awesome. :)

Though does this one have burst/swap?

      • I see where you are going with this LEA. At this point, none that they want us to share, but we will keep this in mind! :)

  7. dpflap:

do you offer DirectAdmin by any chance?

    August 4, 2011 @ 6:24 pm
    • You can install Direct Admin yourself after they activate you. It is pretty easy but you’ll have to ssh in first with something like putty.

  8. I moved to them from enetsouth or enscloud and I must say that its great. I tried several times with ens to get them to correct my rDNS email issue which would rDNS back to host.colocrossing.com. They closed both my tickets without resolving or replying.

ChicagoVPS had my support ticket answered and rDNS up before I even finished transferring my site. On top of that I get 1GB of ram(although no swap space ability) for less than I was paying for 400mb(granted I was getting 10mbs unmetered). My vps works flawlessly now, I won’t go into all the issues I had with ens because I’m sorta nubish in some areas and may have made my own mistakes at times(one of those was believing that I had control over rDNS and wasn’t doing it right).

Looking for a budget vps that just works? Look no further.

I got a 512MB Xen server from these guys to use as a game server and all i can say is that the quality of theseservers are simply excellent. There is no stuttering and the connection is solid. Keep up the good work.
