CityNet Host - $24/Year 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Egypt

CityNet Host They might not have Black Friday there in Egypt but there’s special VPS promotion nevertheless. Mohamed sent me the annual payment version of their 512MB OpenVZ VPS deal. $24/year that gets you the lot. Here’s the sign up form.

  • 512MB memory
  • 50GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM
  • Central backup

Most LowEndBox readers would be familiarize with them by now. Otherwise here is a list of their past offers. Basically backed by a telecom there. Cheap VPS. Variable connectivity depending on where you are from. Can be good but can be bad at times.

Actually this isn’t something specially as there 2.5$/m offer also depends on the term, so I paid 13usd for 6m term. Overall being from Europe this is a perfect test server if you count there central backup.

Acording to http://www.hostip.info/ my vps is located there. I’m using 2,5$ offer with 3 monthly payments.

I’m quite happy with it. The only issue I had till now, is waiting for tun to be working since few days already.

Alot Internet Fraud comes from Africa.

Infact most people in Africa use Internet for Fraud, so you can guess why its blocked.

I don’t think african people are using african internet for fraud. Why Africas internet traffic is flooded with spams, illegal activites, etc is because the investors from the USA and EU are processing their fraud activities outside their continent. And as you can see Africa is really cheap compared to EU or US(another reason why it is popular).

I’m assuming it was a problem in translation, and that he meant most people who do fraud are in Africa.

I’d say Asia and Eastern Europe are pretty bad too, but there’s no such thing as a Poland scam. We’ve all heard of the Nigerian Letter Scam for a reason.

Doesn’t look blacklisted to me. Two no-name spamlists out of 104. It’s fine at Spamhaus/Spamcop/SORBS.

You can easily un-blacklist your IP yourself.
Just go to e.g. http://bgp.he.net/ip/41.223.52.10#_rbl (substitute your IP)
You see that at the moment it is listed in 2 spam RBLs. Go to the website of each, and there’ll be instructions on how to remove an IP from them. Usually it’s pretty easy, automatic and often even instant.

Back to business, I can’t say CityNet Host is good or bad, I’ve only tested their $2.50 OpenVPS and $4.00 XEN for less than a month. So far so good, connection speed depends on where I access the server from (UK is good for me).

  7. I brought the VPS yesterday. I asked for Ubuntu i got Centos. But this is not a big deal i re-installed Ubuntu via SolusVM panel. Server seems to be fast. I thought of making this server just for testing only. Later, re-installed Debian VPS is no more booting up it is offline. Tried Reboot, Boot and again Re-install no luck VPS is still offline in a $24 365days package 1 day of downtime. I have placed ticket waiting for the response.

    • Got the same experience, some of the OS image failed to reboot.

      • rm:

Do you by any chance reinstall to images that have “(Xen PV)” in the end, afaik they are casually listed among others, but won’t work on your OpenVZ VPS, you need to choose the ones that don’t have “Xen” in the name.

        November 29, 2010 @ 5:09 am | Reply
  8. I did not install any image with name (Xen-PV) I tried Re-installing Ubuntu, Debian, again Ubuntu. Wat ever i install OpenVZ never booted up. Finally placed the ticket. I got the reply from support “your IP is pingable”. I logged into the panel and noticed that my OS is CentOS now… thatz Amazing.. I don’t need CentOS. So i Re-installed Ubuntu :( offline again. Looks like most of the OS images are corrupted.

Fully understand your dismay, who in the world needs CentOS. :)
I got CentOS instead of the requested Debian initially too, but then I reinstalled to Debian 64-bit from the panel, and that fortunately worked fine, so didn’t bother to raise an issue.
Maybe something is different on your node which makes those images non-functional.

Citynethost replied promptly and they have updated there SolusVM and now the Ubuntu 10.10 is available. NordicVPS servers are good and performs well, but support bad they have not replied at all.

  16. So far so good. Connection speeds run around 200-900k/sec to the US as expected. I’m monitoring uptime, but I only have a few days worth of statistics (100%), so I’ll post again if the uptime goes downhill much.
