CityNetHost - $4 256MB Xen VPS in Egypt Exclusive Offer

CityNetHost Mohamed from CityNetHost has sent me their latest offers on their Egypt-based Xen VPS. It’s $4/month with this signup link.

  • 256MB memory
  • 25GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • 2 IP addresses
  • Xen/SolusVM

The package also comes with SolusVM central backup enabled — which is rare for low end Xen boxes. How does SolusVM performs backup for Xen VPS anyway — LVM snapshot?! CityNetHost has also been featured here quite a few times in the past so check out their history here for comments and reviews.

  1. CityNet Host can not provide servers to anonymous users, and they charge 25% VAT if you go anonymous.

I agree with you, WHT user :)
their speed really slow, and they dont allow rDNS something like 209.85.132.104.google.com or 150.google.com :D if you request rDNS like these they will automatic set your ptr to serv.domain.com, without asked!

        October 31, 2010 @ 5:08 pm | Reply
        • What are you expecting your rDNS to be set to? Should be set to your domains, not someone elses. Sounds like you;re the one doing something fishy.

          google.com only as sample.
          I request rDNS set to xx.xx.xx.xx.[my domain1].com and xx.[my domain2].com

I wonder why not make the package $3.5, and provide additional IP at $0.5 per month.
Barely anyone is going to make use of 2 IPs.

We’ve been using a XEN instance at CityNetHost and have been very satisfied with the service. One time the instance lost connectivity and it was sorted out with a reboot. All our tickets have been answered quickly + professionally.

My only gripe is connectivity has some latency because the backbone seems to route via London for long-distance connections but that might be because there are fewer local connectivity options coming out of Egypt.

    • Am just saying, I seen a thread on WHT regarding you. The user claimed you took his money and then told him some fraud verifications were being made and that he would phoned the following day. He said he received no phone call and decided to try and get in touch with you, but with no luck.

I have one vps from their previos offer. 2.50$ for 512MB openvz system. It is up and running since 22 days after 3 reboots, within very short time, when there was some problem with the node.

I’ve one also and no complaints. Last rebooted October 14th
      Mine’s $2.17 payable 6 monthly.
If you get one of these, check if there’s an option for longer
payments at a lower rate, if that’s what you want.

I rarely see so often bashed host for nothing as CityHost is. I mean come on guys… we all know what to expect from single homed connection from Africa, don’t we? Kairo connectivity can’t be compared with some Dallas or Amsterdam as example, don’t you agree?
It seems like this guy try really hard to please everyone and he’s prompt with his reponses.. but also we should be a bit more realistic with this host capabilies for those few bucks. I am not impressed with their service either however I got what I expected and it works for me.

If not the recurring issue where TUN and ip6tables break after node reboots, I could say they are excellent.
Unfortunately those are critical for me, I can’t host any important stuff on a server where they can regularly break.
Other than that it is OK, network went down a couple of times recently, but the current uptime is impressive:
      00:57:58 up 22 days, 6:47, 1 user, load average: 0.08, 0.02, 0.01

  10. I have 3 VPS servers with them (OpenVZ from the previous promotion) – the service is great, especially considering the prices. Unfortunately the OpenVZ promotion is over now – I hope that one day they will restore the 2.50$/month offer.

i believe that LEB is filled with great deals and offers from reliable hosts why is this big fuss about cityhost ? just leave them and fetch for another im sure there are more better quality, service, prices and customer care

    November 1, 2010 @ 1:25 pm | Reply
  12. Spirit:

@ew3a weshak exotic location! Location is what it count here. :-)

LEB tasters don’t want or need just another dallas or amsterdam vps. Come on! :P Egypt is something new, refreshing from all those same old boring locations for 3.45$ which most of LEB tasters from here never put in productional use anyway…
imho. there’s no way for LEB readers to get better and more exotic vps deal to add it to their mostly non used collection of various lowend dallas, seattle, frankfurt, amsterdam.. vpses :)

I hope you understand now where all this fuss from? :P

    November 1, 2010 @ 2:12 pm | Reply
    • Having “exotic location” is definitely a plus if you are trying to establish your own CDN or HA solutions. Now we just need a good Asia location…

any idea about any russian vps provider? i’ve been craving or a russian based vps yet cant find one

        November 2, 2010 @ 1:06 pm | Reply
        • rm:

There are no Russian providers which would be competitive on LEB, in fact most of them would be laughed right out of here due to their price to resources provided ratio, and those that will be not, due to the quality of service.

        • Miernik:

There is one VPS provider, not listed on LEB, with a website Russian-only, but servers in Germany:
          http://hostarium.com/
          OpenVZ
          RAM: 64 Mb
          Disk: 1 Gb
          4.89$/mth
          unlimited traffic

  13. @Evo Please keep an eye on our new offers that are always a bargain!

@Spirit I agree with you to a point about Egy. but our vpss can be really used even for non productional usages…

@ew3a weshak Please grow up as you havnt even told LEB users about any bad customer experience or even a professional review and we don’t need “BIG FUSS” as we’re already known to the clients we’re serving with atleast our hard work for their satisfaction I believe your comment will be moderated as it’s just pointless..

I have one VPS, which I paid 13$ for 6 months. Really good services and VPS, at this time, i have 24 days uptime. My VPS is based on Intel Xeon, sites are loading very fast (sometimes faster than servers in my country – Poland ;-)).

    November 2, 2010 @ 9:21 am | Reply
    • It depends. I’m in Poland too (near Gdańsk or Gdynia) and have VPS in here too. CityNet is really good for its price ($7,50/3 months) but at least on my ISP (Vectra cable TV) connectivity is just crap… it’s sometimes faster to download something (a test file, image, backup file or just open a website) from USA than from anywhere in Africa. However, pings are good for me (always under 100ms, typically 70ms – compared to 20-25ms to Nephax datacenter in Gdańsk).

I’ve had a Xen server and the VPS $2/month for 12 months server and both are fine…. Especially for the price. I’m in Australia and the speed is acceptable. Give them a chance, they’re working hard for a tiny price.
