During my search for cheap low-end virtual servers, I discovered Free Xen VPS Hosting, who claims to give you the following Xen VPS for free
- 64MB memory
- 1GB storage on RAID5
- 10GB monthly transfer
- Debian
Their servers appears to be in Netherlands. All you need to do is put in your name + email address, and they’ll set up a FREE Xen VPS for you! As I can’t usually resist freebies on the Intarweb I immediately signed up to it. Got the first email to confirm my email address, and in the subsequent email where login information was promised, I got:
Dear FreeXen user,
Thanks a lot for your registration at FreeXen.com!
Unfortunately, the demand for our service is so big, we couldn’t deliver so much servers in this short time.
When you are seriously interested in professional Xen-based Virtual Private Servers, we have a special one-time offer available for you!
… (128MB Xen VPS for $99/year)
Okay. $99/year ($8.25/month) Xen VPS with 128MB memory is not too bad, but am I the only person felt being scammed?! If they know that they cannot deliver the something they claim to be free, why are they still advertising it on their website and collect people’s email addresses? Not only they have collected email addresses, they only tell you that there’s no freebie after you have confirmed it with a click. With this kind of practise, will you prepay 12 month for a 128MB VPS from them?
Damn. My email address is now phished. Expecting inbox flooded with spams today or tomorrow.

lol you go fished. Fishes usually dont’ resist freebies.
@lol — exactly. Now this post ranked #2 when “freexen” is searched on Google. Hopefully it will be served as a warning to other dumb fishes like me…
I came across this site a while ago, like a few months, and i got the same email when signing up. Now it looks like the site is down though, but according to http://digg.com/linux_unix/Free_Xen_VPS_Hosting they did at one time actually offer free vps accounts.
they seem either gone or pwned now anyway…
