LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

GenVPS - $3.95 128MB OpenVZ VPS

GenVPS Via this WHT offer. Brandon from GenVPS actually emailed me 2 days ago about their “special offer” for LowEndBox readers, but later on I found the offer on WHT to be cheaper so I decided to post that instead. $3.95/month using this ordering link. You get

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 200GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

From their network page they host their servers with FDC Servers in Denver. Their VPS servers are “fully managed” although nothing specific is stated on their management page. In its ToS page under “Support Policy”, there will be an hourly cost on special requests, and it seems any “intermediate to advanced technical support” would cost. So after all it is not really “Managed”, is it?

Domain was created in December last year by someone in UK, and from WHT threads the one who posted about GenVPS might be the same as the one who sold StableLayer late last year. The name on WHOIS “Jack Platten” might be fake anyway, as Facebook-search on that email address ended up on someone completely different. DNS on adjacent IP addresses.

  3. Well, there are different management works.

Maybe they only bill you if you abuse of it or something even though “Fully Management” shall cover it.

  4. Hello Low End Box,

This is Brandon from GenVPS. I would just like to make a few comments on this post. Re-guarding the feel the entire line is “If a unmanaged VPS customer opens a ticket with Managed Support to request intermediate to advanced technical support, a $5 fine will apply per ticket.”.

The offer posted on Web Hosting Talk for $3.95 a month was an special plan that was unmanaged, and per stated in that post (as to why it’s not listed on our site). Now about the domain WHOIS, Mr Jake “Knox” Platten is the owner of the company, he has control of the domain and recently had his last name updated to the one of his step-fathers, the domain WHOIS was not adjusted when this happened as we really never use it.

We are a new company that was started late last year, and had Bought StableLayer as a previous project and had sold it off at a later point. Our team has a tremendous amount of technical field of web hosting in general.

Lastly the comment on what is covered with management, we are currently collaborating with our web design company to make a new page stating what is covered and not covered and to further explain the fees.

I hope there was no confusion during this all and if you have any further questions e-mail me directly at brandon[@]genvps.com or post a reply to this comment.

IPs by GeoIP (or ip2location) are from IL, not Denver, Colorado.

    • I think it assumes IL when it’s from FDC Server. However if you traceroute you’ll see that it goes to Denver.

Interesting offer, can anyone speak about how reliable the services is?

Their website also is down for me now which gives me a bad first impression.

Are they suppose to be in dead pool already? :P
