Jerome sent me the link to proPlay.de (yes, going to the .de domain redirects me to their .biz domain). Their tagline is “Professional Hosting 4u”, and their OpenVZ virtual server plans start from €5.97/3 months (their minimum billing period). That translates to around USD$2.71/month. Order their Mini package here, and it comes with
- 256MB memory
- 4GB storage
- 50GB/month data transfer
- IPv4 + IPv6
- OpenVZ
Looks like desktop grade computers are used for host box (Q6600, 4GB memory, 250GB HDD, etc). Looks like activation is manual and not done during wee hours. Looks like the servers are with Hetzner in Germany. Domain has been registered since 2005.
Price also has 19% MwSt included (VAT in Germany). Not sure whether non-Germans can be exempted from this?

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
IPV4 + IPV6, another way to experiment with ipv6 without headaches…
Unfortunately, the storage is little.
Price is little also :)
From what I know, those on the EU will still have to pay the tax. But could be wrong.
Normaly if you’re in the EU and have your own VAT number then you should not have to pay VAT at all.
Yep, using a .biz domain and having l33tsp3ak in the tag line just SCREAMS ‘professional’. :)
Do you know the hoster: server4you.de ?
One of the biggest. ( oh and server4you.biz redirects to .com which is also theirs.)
I’m with them since 2008, having 2 servers. They are very stable. My last uptime was ~ 240 days and that because they needed to perform kernel updates on the host nodes. I was informed about the downtime 4 days before.
They have homegrown control panel, but you can do a lot with it.
I’ve never needed support till now.
Be aware however, that the official communication is in german (like the information about the downtime).
Non-Eu Members will be excluded from German-VAT (MWST)
I have a server there too, but a VPS premium, the mini package is afaik not hosted by hetzner, the Premium VPS are hosted @hetzner. The premium vps are traffic unmetered and still very cheap.
Their support is nice but somewhat incompetent. However my server runs fine. I just dont reccomend to order a domain there, if you wan’t to use GLUE-records.
when registering, can’t find China(even US) in nationality
This blog isn’t banned yet in China :O.
aha,people buy vps here,then cross the Wall…
yeah,when banned,go to my site LEBCN ;)
I’m tempted to try it but it would be nice if the site has an english translation. The UK flag icon doesn’t seem to be working.
