LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
Would be interesting to see what download speeds are like from this service. What the specifications of the node are, node location and how many containers they have to a node.
Jack.
Tested the speed.
Top test is from one of their US servers and the bottom test is from a UK node. Both tests taken from my German VPS. (Hetzner, DE)
Jack xD
P.S. Hope I have the correct BB code.
There are speed test files and IPs on our website. Your connection will be on a shared 100Mbit uplink and will not be throttled.
Nodes are typically Q8300 processors with 8GB RAM and 1TB RAID10 disk space. We only use brand name hardware.
Nodes are in Sota Com in the Kent Science Park, UK.
Approximately 20 containers to a node.
This package is still available so I ordered it last thursday. So far it’s not going very well.
They say to have instant setup. After about 18 hours my VPS still wasn’t setup so I sent them an email and it took them another 6 hours or so to set it up.
When they finished the setup, the ip address allocated to me didn’t respond (Destination Host Unreachable). SolusVM reports the VPS is running, but I can’t access the VPS through the SolusVM console either. So I reported this last friday but it is still not working. Ok, it’s weekend but they claim to deliver 24×7 support.
So far all they have said is that a senior admin will look into it.
I guess I’ll just wait a little bit and see what happens, but so far it hasn’t really been “quickvps” to me.
I canceled. They’re really a mess.
– It took over 48 hours before they “fixed” the broken network on my VPS by creating a new VPS.
– They send an email about them rebranding to “qualityservers” with new email addresses for support which don’t even work
– Average reply to tickets is well over 24 hours; thats OK for such low budget service if the replies would be meaningful, but they’re not.
– They just fail to enable PyGrub to be able to load my own kernel. First they said I just had to install grub and a kernel, they apparently didn’t know they had to enable pygrub. When I told them they had to enable pygrub, they said they did but it still didn’t work. It really seems they have no clue about what they’re doing.
So all in all they just give me a bad feeling, better stay away from them.
