SemoWeb LLC have been featured on LowEndBox regularly since 2010. Nodes are equipped with the E3-1230v2 CPU (which has 4x Physical Cores & 4x Logical Cores) and their disks are using Hardware RAID-10. Their last offer, for a $12/Year 256MB OpenVZ VPS in Orlando, FL, was well received by the community with 191 comments to date. Previously they have sold virtual services in Orlando and Los Angeles located with HostDime but Dustin informs us that “moving forward we will begin pushing all orders on our QuadraNet nodes”. This is likely because of their connections with Quadranet as Dustin is the ‘Sales guy’. You can find a third, and final, offer below.

There is not set expiration date for these offers but they’re limited in quantity. Each vps receives access to a 100Mbps uplink, although the node itself is connected to a 1Gbps port. Additional savings can be obtained if you prepay for a longer billing cycle. They accept payments from all major credit card companies via 2checkout and also accept PayPal through 2checkout. VPS services are not eligible for refunds or trials. As usual, for further information you may want to view their Terms of Service and their Privacy Policy.

    • We do not believe our pricing is expensive, in fact we believe it to be very competitive.. out of curiosity what type of pricing were you thinking? FYI our pricing is produced with many reasons.. you are going with both quality hardware and network here and of course a long standing provider who cares for its customers..

Pricing is provided at a sustainable rates and of course as mentioned by Zahra discounted pricing can be obtained by prepaying.

Just to add something here. Despite I am not with Semoweb anymore, when I was, my VPS was a good place to host one of my gameservers several months.
Maybe one day I will try them again.

I have a VPS with them in Orlando, FL that I got during their $12/year offer. It does have very good performance but there have been 3 notable down times (longer than 30 minutes) since I’ve had it. It’s funny I browse to LEB now because this is currently one of those times. VPS has been down since 7:05PM MST :/

    • does your vps located on HostDime?

six hour ago, HostDime got DDOS. Not only semoweb, couple vps provider which located on HostDime experience downtime too.

    • Hello rdaltri,

Unfortunately the downtime you faced today was out of our control, our Orlando Florida location was completely down. In fact this is HostDimes data center which witnessed a LARGE DDOS attack, here is their apologies:

      Good evening,

We would like to take this time to apologize regarding a network issue that may have affected your services on Friday, January 4, 2013. At around 21:10 EST [9:10 PM GMT-4:00], our system administrators were alerted to issues regarding latency and packet loss to our network, stemming from a LARGE Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS), which would have resulted in intermittent and/or total loss of access to your services. Within 5 minutes of the attack’s inception, our network engineers began to modify the network flows to mitigate the attack. Once the modifications were put in place, they took some time to be populated across all Internet routes. While we get Denial of Service attacks daily, which our network is able to withstand without issue, attacks of this nature which affect service are rare. The type of attack that occurred tonight has been patched to ensure a similar attack is filtered by default by our systems moving forward.

According to our graphs, the network issues lasted from approximately 21:10 through 21:55 for a total of 45 minutes of intermittent latency and/or inability to access your services. As mentioned before, this is now resolved fully and we are committed to continuously monitoring the health status of the network to ensure it is to the highest level of uptime at all times. Our commitment is always to deliver 100% uptime and we consider this our highest responsibility.

If you have any questions and/or concerns please feel free to let us know and we will be more than willing to assist you. We appreciate your partnership and we thank you for your understanding while we resolved this issue at hand.

I did not had good luck with SemoWeb. Their OS images rarely worked for me and support responses took several hours to the better part of a day before I received a reply. And when I did receive replies it was usually an incomplete, one-sentence response that didn’t solve my problem and required additional emails.

This was about 6 months ago; I canceled my service in August after an issue went unresolved for more than a week (the VPS wouldn’t stay booted more than 45 minutes even with a clean install). I hope other users have had better support experiences than I did.

    • Hi Allen,

This is unfortunate news, we strive to provide the best service and of course like any company have room for improvement.

The good news is since you were last with us we have witnessed tremendous growth, hired additional support techs and things have changed for the better not limited to hardware, support, locations and of course the latest templates and so much more!

I’d love to welcome you back and offer you 1 month of free service, just e-mail me directly with either the e-mail you have on file or simply referencing it the e-mail you have on file and I’d love to have you see the changes we have made! My e-mail is dustin@semoweb.com

I am confident that you will not regret it, I look forward to your e-mail.

Hey, after much browsing, I decided that this was the VPS that I would want to go with. However, when I did go on to it I discovered that I couldn’t get Ubuntu 12.04 as a distro to run on it which is a shame since my configurations on my practice server at home have all been on ubuntu. Anything that can be done here?

    January 5, 2013 @ 12:24 pm | Reply
    • Hi Adnan,

You should be able to reinstall to Unbuntu 12.04 and should you encounter issues just open a support ticket and we will assist immediately we’re staffed 24/7!

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I’m setup. Had a bit of a hiccup after reinstalling the template, where my VPS got disabled right after due to a suspect DDOS attack. I have a feeling that was an internal issue but whatever it was, it got resolved within a few hours. Having said that… Are you storing my passwords in plaintext?? The mail I received had everything in plain text.

        January 7, 2013 @ 2:32 pm | Reply
        • Hi Adnan,

Passwords are sent via e-mail in plain text, we use WHMCS which most providers also use, you can change your password immediately after the container has been deployed.

Well this has been a disappointment. Starting to regret buying this and giving up my hostigation account just because of the better pricing. Even before I could get my server up and running with configurations I was subjected to DDoS attacks and open relay attacks. Fine, so I haven’t configured the machine. But when I send a mail saying to enable the server again I expect a reply faster than several hours. This was why I couldn’t configure my machine after the initial DDoS in the first place. By the time the response came in I was asleep and from the next day I had work after which I haven’t been able to spare time to configuring the server. By the time I get the response for this issue my time that I could have spared to fixing it will be over and it’ll probably get shut down again before I can attend to it. Not happy at all. I haven’t started hosting anything yet and I’m worried that when I do, every time there is some DDoS I’ll have to wait hours till I can get my website back up and running.

        • Adnan,

How many times has this occurred? Have you considered swapping your IP? Perhaps the previous customer of this IP was a DDoS target? Keep in mind these are FRESH nodes/IPs so its kind of mind boggling that this is the issue..

          Can I have a ticket # please.

          January 10, 2013 @ 4:06 pm | Reply
      • Adnan:

Haven’t had a chance to swap IPs.
        Ticket numbers are
647082, 507174 (both for the DDoS)
        292132 (spam abuse).
I’ve already bought another VPS and will probably transfer to them permanently. Dustin here is a great guy clearly, but the people who are actually behind support are hardly of the same caliber. My spam abuse ticket has gone 26+ hours without any response. If this is what would happen to my site, I can’t afford to host here. If my support has to be expedited through a comment section on lowendbox there’s clearly a problem.

        January 11, 2013 @ 6:10 am | Reply
        • Adnan,
Your support is not being expedited in anyway by posting here, I post and support this community when I am available… I do not want anyone thinking this is another method to contact us for support related issues.. as a company we are entirely committed to our customers as such I frequent forums etc to ensure our customers are FULLY satisfied.. Personally I am simply looking into any “outstanding” issues…. with your machine sending OUTBOUND spam there is reasons why we have to stop it entirely.. I do agree that our response time in the “abuse ticket” could have been faster how ever its not a department that receives immediate responses like our support department.. its something we need to adjust and I am sorry for the delay you witnessed.

In regards to TT#647082 we responded and you never did..
As for TT#507174 we responded and brought you back online, since you had “just” bought the container and witnessed immediate DDoS attacks I would have requested a IP swap right then and there if I were you.. As a company do not know whether you are attracting the DDoS or not.. we just know your IP is being attacked.. “just” because a client signs up and is being attacked doesn’t always mean its not them causing it.. some people host hop thinking providers will keep them only even if they are being attacked so its nothing something we would have just proposed to you..

I have no other real explanations for you, I am sorry that its been a tough first month for you and I hope things become better, if you feel there is something outstanding that has not been resolved just let me know.

          Thanks!

My experience with Semoweb: I got one VPS during their $12/year offer and probably will cancel it at the end of the prepaid period. Experienced some issues I am not happy with. I just use the VPS as a PPTP VPN-Server to access US georestricted content, so it is only used a few hours per month. Rest of the time it just idles.

First issue was bandwidth generated when viewing a TV series on hulu. For a 45 min episode on hulu my Win7 connection info showed about 250 MB (total sent and received) the control panel billed about 9 GB. 0.5 Gb would be correct (250 MB receiving from hulu and sending to my place). Monitored with iftop next time I watched an episode and experienced about 3 GB traffic generated within a few seconds when the commercial break started. Might be my limited knowledge of Linux, but I can not imagine how this would be possible. Support was not really helpful (…you must understand that you have an unmanaged VPS with us). OK, point taken.

Second issue: Bandwidth counter resets. I ordered on 23rd or so, next 1st of month Counter reset to 0 – everythin fine. But one month later there was no reset. Support told me: “Your bandwidth doesn’t reset until every 23’rd of the month” but as I kind of expected even on 23rd there was no reset. I cut back use of this VPS since then.

Third issue: Semoweb had some crash on their Solus System in December and tried to recreate it from a backup, but this did not work for all customers. After opening a ticket my cp got rebuilt and I could access it again, but since then it is showing the wrong OS (CentOS 5 32bit, VPS is runnig on Debian 64bit) and bandwidth counter stays on 0 with the message “Error generating bandwidth graph” when accessing statistics. As I do not use this system at the moment and only log in for “apt-get update”s I did not open any new tickets. I am just tired of it.

Maybe just my bad luck and lack of knowledge, but my VPS from a competitor runs perfect.

    • Hi Bernd,

This is a highly unfortunate case and sounds like a “bad luck” case, how ever rather than sit here and make this sound like an excuse from our end we’d love to regain your trust in our services.

With SemoWeb even though your service is $12/Year for the promotion you received we will treat you no different than a much higher paying client.. you all are the same in our eyes and we sincerely value everyone and I personally want to make sure your happy with our service level. I am willing to move your container to Los Angeles at no additional cost! I am confident that you will be happy with our services and from here on out you will notice changes.

As for support, its NEVER our intention nor would I like my team to simply make customers feel like “hey your unmanaged we wont assist” I expect my time to relay this in a different way that is understanding, do you mind sharing this ticket? I would like to review their response and see exactly on how we can improve.

Keep in mind bandwidth is billing IN+OUT — I also have no problem allocating you 2TB of bandwidth FREE on top of what you have now! What do you think?

Just wanted to add, VPS was rebooted last night. This is now the 4th time I’ve woken up to my VPS being restarted. These are different from the 3 extended down times that I was awake for.

    Hmmm
My experience with Semoweb is good I have a $12 VPS special (+ extra disk space) and it’s always available when I need to use it.
The 1GB port is great, the 4 cores cpu share are good and the support (unless you ask something specific) is fast

Dustin has always been very helpful and compared to some others smaller companies you get many different people instead of just one and that’s reassuring in a way.

My only regreat is not having bandwidth issues like Bernd so I can have free extra traffic ;-)

Wish them good luck with that new offer !

I’d like to look into your case, we’re operate a legitimate company and NEVER would we not refund a customer unless there was abuse/violation to our TOS. Also our VPS are not backed by any type of trial nor money back guarantees.

If we cancelled your order, then YES you were refunded, let me know into it please.

      Please provide the ticket #

I got the refund today, but you had banned me right away ,my order was legit and I never used your service before . maybe because i bought 4$ /month and paid monthly an you did not like it anyway Goodluck with your business ,i recommend people choose reliable providers

        • Max,

What you are saying makes very little sense, we would not cancel ANY client just because they choose to pay monthly.. if we did not like clients who paid on monthly terms we would not offer it at all.. If you were “banned” then its obviously due to fraud.. no other reason why would ban anyone.

You still have not provided a ticket # so there is very little I can do to help or even validate what you are saying is true or not etc..

  10. My review on their old VPS plan which is no longer offered:

They are a Hostdime reseller however the performance of the VPS that I have reviewed was pretty good and the technical support was relatively fast.

Currently I am not a client of any provider, but I was a client of SemoWeb in the past and I just want to say to the people who had issues: You guys are doing it wrong. I enjoyed an amazing service with SemoWeb at what I consider fair prices, not a single ticket went by where I had to wait over 45 minutes; Hah, I was the one who took long to reply to the tickets. As for up-time, I never personally experienced any downtime although I wasn’t very active so I can’t fully vouch for it, nevertheless I’m sure it’s fine. Someone said that the OS images weren’t viable, I personally ran CentOS 6 and simply ran yum update whenever I re-installed the server and everything was good to go. The hardware in question is very good, the servers are stable and the same can be said for the network.
