LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

SimpleRack - $5 512MB OpenVZ VPS Exclusive Offer

SimpleRack Thanks to Chris from SimpleRack for giving LowEndBox readers an exclusive offer — $5/month OpenVZ virtual server from otherwise $19/month service, using coupon code 5VPS. You get

  • 512MB memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 700GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

SimpleRack has been providing various services from shared hosting to colo. Their website tracerouted to Joe’s Datacenter in Kansas City so I assume that’s where are all the other services are located (including the VPS). Domain was registered for a bit more than a year. There is no indication that SimpleRack is not a one man show, and from the owner’s Facebook page he might have some other priorities. It does have an SLA though, probably covered by the DC.

    Ya we had a issue with one of the UPS that was attached to our switch. One of the UPS failed and killed half the switch. Everything is up and running fully now.

    Where does it say anything about DirectAdmin being included for free?

    July 8, 2010 @ 3:31 pm | Reply
  14. The free DirectAdmin was for the first 5 customers ordering DirectAdmin with their purchase, and using the coupon code 5VPS.

    We plan to offer a similar package only upgrade based in the future.

    Does the coupon 5VPS still work ? I tried to order a VPS, but the system kept saying price was 19$/month

    Don’t even bother with this. On a clean install of CentOS, it took a minute and a half after entering my root password in SSH before I received a prompt. I’m in the middle of installing DirectAdmin right now and I feel like gouging my eyes out.

  21. a simplerack customer:

    Quoting Chris Trower, “The coupon Expires July 31st, 2010.” Yet, you say it’s already expired? That’s the kind of shenanigans I’ve come to expect from Simple Rack! When I first came across simplerack.net, their website was completely identical to JoesDC website. They stole the complete website design from JoesDC. A worthy company that steals? Idk about that. Now they’ve updated it a bit, but it looks like a n00b did it. Not very professional looking if you ask me.. I can say they respond quickly to support tickets, but if you ask a similar question twice, you’ll get two completely different answers! I don’t think they really know what they’re talking about half the time…oh yeah, like this expired coupon, that’s supposed to expire July 31st! The main reason I’m a customer is because I love the FAST network they’re on at JoesDC and the 30% discounted price is reasonable..

    Their website now says “Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress.”

    I’m starting to have my doubts about this co. While I was eligible for the free Directadmin.. now they are saying that Directadmin was free only for the first month and they’ve added another $5 to my invoice. From Cody’s reply there was no mention of this being free for the first month.

    Well that’s one BS too many..I just canceled my VPS cause you never know what they’re going to charge me for the next month. This Co. seem to be lacking in the integrity department.

  25. You’re going to have to take that up with Chris.
    I told you what I knew to be correct at the time, at the time I wrote the comment that was the information I was provided. Chris is the owner of Simple Rack so please lets try to resolve this civilly without bashing anyone’s good name.

  26. I also work for SimpleRack, I keep hearing customers complain, but most of our customers are doing great, they know what they are doing and know what they want. The only ones that complain are the cheap ones who want everything for free. We don’t do managed VPS, and we’re not here to offer free VPS’s, we answer our tickets and support fast. Another thing about the $5 for DA, we’ve never mentioned that it was a 1 month nor for the life of the VPS, do the math, DA cost $5, and the VPS cost the client $5. That simply equals $0 for Simplerack, it’s called a promotional deal, not a bank breaking deal. What we pay for 1/8th of a mb/s cost more then what is currently being utilized.

    We’re not here to cheat anyone out, but there’s a reason why we leave things out, and if you don’t understand something and want more information. Please come on livechat live our loyal customers and ask questions before you buy. If our sales team has given you false information, please provide it via email to customerservice@simplerack.net and we’ll be more than happy to work something out.

    @Bruce Vang
    Were you referring to me when you mentioned the cheap one’s? you structure your pricing toward budget hosting and yet you expect clients from Beverhills? why don’t you do the math!

    When I signed up, DA was available as an option for $0 no where did it state that DA was $5 looking at Chris Tower’s reply he mentions this offer is recurring so from that I gather my current plan with DA will cost me $5/month. Had this not been the case then you should have put a footnote on the sign up page regarding DA.

    Also I never asked for a free VPS or anything else for free..I PAID! and yet you call me cheap cause I signed up for your services.. and you wonder why you keep hearing customers complain! maybe it’s your attitude?

    By the way DA never worked but I reinstalled it myself.. I never requested for any of you to manage my VPS, and just to let you know my total bandwidth for the life of the VPS was less than 3GB, cause I would not want you to think that I’m abusing your services.

    As a last note Bruce “We’re not here to cheat anyone out, but there’s a reason why we leave things out” wonder what your reason is for leaving things out?

    @Cody

    Cody you were great!! very polite and a pleasure to deal with.. I apologize if I brought your name into this.
