tmzVPS - $6.77 384MB OpenVZ VPS in Orlando

tmzVPS tmzVPS contacted me a few days ago to offer LowEndBox community an exclusive offer on their managed OpenVZ VPS hosting. Coupon code LEB13OFFUS will bring the price of TMZ-384 down from $19.77/month to $6.77/month (US-only). It comes with

  • 384MB memory
  • 50GB storage on RAID10
  • 900GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps
  • 2x IPv4 addresses
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Payments can be made in either PayPal, AlertPay, 2Checkout or Moneybookers. Servers with DimeNOC in Orlando FL (test IP: 64.37.53.2). tmzVPS is part of TMZHosting that has been around “for over 5 years”. Daniel at TMZHosting listed out all the good reviews on WHT so you can check them out. They are mainly doing managed hosting, although TMZ-384 does not come with cPanel thus it is not really fully managed according to the foot note on their VPS hosting page. Still, they do boast “24/7 support, with a 15 minute guaranteed ticket response time”.

No one posted yet? :) There most likely isn’t a lot of tmzVPS clients so let me give some short review. I got one of their bigger UK cPanel packages but honestly I had somewhat higher expectations from TMZHosting. Initial support ticket response is really near to this what they advertize but to bring solution can take up to few days. Generally they are polite and Daniel seems to care for public opinion but you should not expect miracles from “managed” support.
Node.. node itself is pretty much in lowendbox average. Good connection speed (43.2MB/s) and relatively bad (for higher end vps in my case!) IO speed (28.5MB/s). I can’t say anything about uptime yet.
When I opened support ticket it took some time before they realized that IO wait have nothing to do with my low vps load, etc… but after few ticket exchanges they fixed initial 15 MB/s IO speed to relatively constant 25MB/s – 40MB/s which I can find somewhat useful but I am still not sure if I want to move some of my more serious online projects here as some my cheaper low end vpss perform better.

    TMZ-1536 plan

    bash bench.sh
    CPU model : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz
    Number of cores : 4
    CPU frequency : 2493.812 MHz
Total amount of ram : 1500 MB
Total amount of swap : 0 MB
    Download speed : (38.5MB/s)
    I/O speed : 39.7MB/s

For $6.77/month LEB offer they can’t be that bad and you will be fine with them but don’t expect premium high end service range.

We managed a client that had hosting solutions with Tmz, and they never had a issue or a period of down time in the past year of their active subscription with TmzHosting.

Daniel runs a tight operation and if your looking for a good solution in my eyes, these guy’s would be the place to go.

  2. @Spirit – I agree, I think tmzVPS doesn’t have a lot of low end user, as up to my knowing, tmzVPS mostly offer managed high end quality package with guaranteed support response, but tmzVPS is also known to have great auction at WHT from time to time. (never have won one though so I cannot comment much on the performance)

Anyway, thanks for the information, Spirit.

Naah, not even close to some more renowned name. Guaranteed support response time had nothing to do with reality (to bring solution to simplest requests) neither oversold node doesn’t give “high end quality package” impression.
They are relatively ok – from LEB perspective and for $6.77 384MB OpenVZ LEB we can’t go much wrong with them… but to pay 20$, 30$, 40$… for.. naah, not worth it. Even some our LEB 4$ vpss perform better than (this moment I/O speed : 31.4MB/s) high end package. And support… not that I really need my own vps related support, but eh… I am giving up (waste of time).

That’s not bashing. For now I am still with them, and I am still not sure what do with this cPanel vps as every new support ticket give me less and less confidence in their otherwise polite but more or less useless support and I am simply afraid to migrate any my more serious project here because simple fact… they are relatively ok but far far… from premium. I get way better service from few LEB providers.

      • From the price perspective, I think it’s worth to try. (compared to $20 / $30)

    • Well, I guess it is premium service desk but not premium machine though.

  4. Spirit, you mentioned there’s some better providers for less. Who would you recommend? I’m on fsckvsp/vaserv/cheapvps/whatever name they are this month who have just sent a mail saying they are shutting down US servers by the 31st of December. I received an offer for the TMZ-1024 plan that I was seriously considering.

      Ello, Toppy.

Would you mind showing that e-mail here of FSCKVPS/VaServ shutting down all USA operation on there Virtual Servers? I heard it but I wasn’t 100% sure if that was true and so on. That’s surprising and I wonder why, if you don’t mind relaying the e-mail over to me that would be great, or you could shoot it over to me via e-mail, whatever you please.

      ——-

I also, recommend trying out TMZVPS, I don’t see anything wrong with them and they’re a good provider, they are not the best, but surely don’t come close to a bad company, every company goes through a issue here and there, and TMZ did have some issues with there off-shore facility awhile back and it caused some delay in getting some orders and related tickets answered and handled due to the problems at the facility directly, not nothing related to TMZ’s doing, besides using that facility. I would give them a shot, their USA operation is great and recommended by alot of people.

I have messed around with one of their Virtual Servers before about a month ago and to be honest, I got great speed, and performance out of the damn thing. The package I was using was their OpenVZ Managed cPanel 2GB, it ran quick, the managed support was on top of there game and the server was highly customized and secured/hardened by them and their management team for the client that I did a job for and did some work on their server for them to tune it down for a software/application we developed for him and his business.

      Thanks,
      Keith.
