LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

VPSDime - $7/month 6GB, $8/year 128MB , and more OpenVZ offers in three locations

Oktay is back with some offers for his brand VPSDime. This is the fourth time we’re featuring VPSDime, so the label ‘new’ can be taken off by now since VPSDime has been around for over six months now.  The label ‘new’ cannot be taken off of their new New Jersey location, for which stock will be added on March 26! Oktay and his brands are known for the custom control panel they all utilize, always fully integrated into the billing area. No double logins and no SolusVM to have to fool around with. VPSDime nodes are dual E5 2620’s with 384GB RAM and 8 x 10K RPM Hard drives in RAID10. The VPSDime hardware is rented from Incero in Dallas. Their Los Angeles location is with ColoCrossing. I am unsure about New Jersey. SSD caching is optional for all these offers for a small fee and this can be selected while ordering. IPV6 is available in Dallas. I’ve found a review for VPSDime and it’s positive one at that! Please share your own experiences with us here.

    Hi,
What if I want to order more space, 60GB sounds bit less for my requirement. Secondly, do you have dns server?

I just signed up for the 6GB plan last week, but I’d really like the additional disk space from this offer. How should I go about that – sign up for a second box and let the first expire? Or is there an easier way? Thank you – have been very impressed with your customer service so far, very prompt and helpful – highly recommended.

I just order a vps server (location Los Angeles) from VPSdime. but VPSDIME assign my vps a new york ip.
it’s too slow to connect from my home address. and i get a reply from support: Your server is located in Los Angeles. The IP is registered in NY and is not reflective of the locality of your VPS.

I did not know why vps server (location Los Angeles) use ip (new york),anyone can help, give me a answer.

    • GeoIP is often very wrong, since they’re using ColoCrossing for their LA location it would make sense that your IP shows a NY location as that’s where they’re based out of. Do a traceroute/MTR on your IP and you’ll see it hits a router in LA.

If you plan to send emails, note that VPSDime don’t offer PTR Record(Reverse IP), so you can’t change it.

    • fogspike:

Is that true? Not possible to set up reverse DNS? That’s a showstopper for me. I need to run a low-volume mail server (and for people to actually receive the emails).

Or are you saying reverse DNS is set up when you sign up, but you can’t later change the FQDN?

      March 24, 2014 @ 10:10 pm | Reply
      • jakepatrick:

No, that’s not true. I have more than one of their high ram 6gb servers and you just have to set your forward dns to point to the right location and submit a ticket, then they will set up the ptr record for reverse lookups.

Can the 6GB Plan be used for Runescape Private Servers? It is not mentioned in the ToS or AUP. It should be noted that the server is completely legal, as well as the client that connects to it. The only thing illegal is the cache, which would be hosted elsewhere. Thanks in advance.

“The high CPU loaded produced by mining digital currency negatively impacts performance for all of our customers, as such you may not run any BitCoin related services, this includes any BitCoin derivatives such as LiteCoin, ZeroCoin and any other digital currencies.”

Your TOS forbids all things related to Bitcoin or derivatives, but I think you really only have a problem with CPU intensive uses such as mining. There are a lot of “related services” that don’t use any significant amount of CPU for example p2pool nodes. Are those also forbidden?

Don’t know why but at first their anti-fraud system blocked me. I opened a support ticket and received a 5 word reply (greetings included). That day I received the invoice and promptly paid it. Today I see my order has been cancelled and received no refund.
Now they say they don’t see my payment. Wow.

I have also been banned apparently due to anti-fraud measures. I paid with Paypal and started looking around the client area for my IP address etc. Moments later I get emails about my payment being refunded and I’m worried I accidentally clicked a cancellation button. I refresh the client area to see, “Your IP has been banned. Ban Reason: Banned due to Orders” Gee, that really helps me understand what’s going on!

I can only cut them a little slack because I can see why my payment activity could reasonably look fraudulent. But it wasn’t. Maybe they are OK if they decide to give you their services, but I posted to let people know how crappy and confusing the experience is if they don’t.

P.S. They should accept Bitcoin so they don’t have to worry about fraudulent payments.

  24. I have been with VPSDime for about 4 months now with their 6GB plan and I can honestly say they have been great, Tickets are answered fast and even tough there have been a confusion here or there I am always satisfied with how fast problems are resolved and no downtime in 4 full months. Can’t go wrong with that.

Do you know how WordPress sites perform on the 6gb plan? My current host is very laggy even though they claim to be optimized so I think I just need to build my own for my sites.

    March 27, 2014 @ 4:09 pm | Reply
    • More ram doesn’t really equate to better speeds in WordPress. IO is your main bottleneck since everything drives off MySQL.

I am fairly happy with my 512mb plan here, it’s a decent performer, but I wouldn’t be moving my main wordpress sites here.

Try Ramnode SSD plans if you are looking for a good performing low budget VPS for WordPress. They go on sale occasionally here. I got 40% off for life a month or two back.

I gave them a try. Good performance and no downtimes.

But here is the problem; They have a killer app which scans the guests for “offending” applications on your VPS.

For some reason rsyslog is on that list which I need to run. Their solution was for me “rename” rsyslog. Not a choice if using repos.

Why would it even be on a ban list?

    May 5, 2014 @ 7:51 pm | Reply
    • Sven:

Without some changes, rsyslog will not run properly on OpenVZ. It may start eating all available CPU, I suspect that’s why they killed the process…?
