LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

YourDomainGoesHere - $5 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Dallas

YourDomainGoesHere Corey from Your Domain Goes Here (YDGH) contacted me regarding to their 10% off first month special as posted on WHT. WHT10 gives you 10% off discount on first month’s invoice. They are pretty much running the same VPS plan since almost a year ago. $5/month for “VPS1”. While they haven’t bothered to update their hosting plan over the last year, they haven’t expired their 10% off recurring discount either, exclusive to LowEndBox. So, forget about WHT10. Use LEB10 to bring the price down to $4.50/month. Okay. That promo code is not working anymore. Same spec:

  • 512MB memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • 2 IP addresses
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

There does not appear to have any “burstable memory”. Servers in Dallas TX with Colo4Dallas (test IP: 64.87.60.2). Wayne, Katrenia and Corey have provided some pretty good support over there, although it has not been all smooth sailing as they had some hardware issue back in April (start reading from here). Domain has been registered since 2009. Both NS are (still) pointing to the same box. Ran by Wayne and Corey who both are based in Texas working in an electricity procurement company.

  3. About this sentence – Ran by Wayne and Corey who both are based in Texas working in an electricity procurement company.

Neither of us work for that company anymore. We are both available 24/7 for YDGH now.

Use LEB10 to bring the price down to $4.50/month.

I have expired this promotion now as we no longer wish to offer this price. Please use code WHT10 to receive 10% off the first month.

Just signed up, little disappointed that OS can’t be chosen during the order process(noting a quick reinstall couldn’t solve). So far so good :)

I have YDGH for a few months now.
Pros: Works. Cheap. Friendly staff, usually respond pretty quickly. Pretty fast.

Cons: Initially there were some problems, now it seems it’s been OK. I have had my drive wiped clean twice. No backups. Uptime is usually two weeks, sometimes less. Server reboots itself automatically, I don’t know why (security updates?).
There was a forum on ydgh for support but has been closed or moved, there’s no visible link to get community support.

tl;dr – Seems to be fine now, have had some (big) problems in the past.

    • Hey we removed the forums some time ago because there wasn’t enough community involvement. We are thinking about implementing an IRC channel as community support.

When your drive was wiped clean that was when we were facing the unfortunate failure of software raid. We have since spent thousands of dollars upgrading all servers to hardware raid.

      • Kacper:

Like I said, there were some problems but it’s running fine for quite some time now. Hopefully you guys are here to stay and learned from your mistakes. I have all my files in git backups so I was not affected by data loss when drive failed, redoing system configuration was a PITA.

I think forum makes more sense than IRC, so some things can be a sticky posts for common problems. I say get both.

        • Well we could also have a page on our site that logs all of the IRC chat and we could extract important things and post them as a FAQ on the IRC page.

While I’m glad that he did, his response seems a bit “Deny everything”-ish to me.

    • /quotefromthatpost I don’t understand how this makes us shady? Looks like it makes us honest. We had a lot of trouble with servers on software raid and have since replaced them all with hardware raid and raptors greatly increasing I/O and uptime.

doesnt seem deny everything ish – just the parts that are wrong.

  9. We have not placed hardly any ads since our failure last year that was caused primarily by software raid.. We have spent the time since then making changes and improving our company in several ways. Some things we have yet to implement!

We appreciate everyone that has been with us through our good and our rough times.. We guarantee that we will continue to get better!

If you live somewhere in china ‘sometimes’ we have reports of packet loss over there but our provider never has a clear answer as to why.

      • It was an honest comment – are you just a LEB troll? I put ‘sometimes’ in quotes because it is very rarely and I honestly think it is their internet service provider (I don’t know they never post tracerts after asking) hinting at why our provider never has a clear answer.

Its an awesome business but to much physical labor in the hot sun to be long term imo.

  23. UPDATE: As many already know, ColocateUSA roughly doubled our monthly cost and charged us some unfounded overages because we didnt want to pay the new increased monthly price……. So we have paid our final bill with ColocateUSA and are moving to new Data Centers… Our new data centers are Continuum and Quadranet (Chicago and California)

Resellers should point their domains to 184.154.126.163 and VPS’s should open support tickets for you new IP addresses which will be given out soon as the equipment arrives at the new data centers.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we have emailed everyone already. I just want to make sure everyone is aware of the situation.

Prices will stay the same. Now that we are finally out of ColocateUSA… We will be investing heavily into growing again!

Our new growth plan will involve multiple new data centers in different states to spread out our risks and offer more locations for your convenience. Our next server will hopefully be in Dallas again this time with a different provider.

We had a very bad experience with this provider. I would not recommend to use them.

The supplier canceled our VPS after a while without prior notice due to high load and deleted all data. Of course they still took our payments and refused to refund anything.

I am not sure if this is fraudulent or just negligent, but for production data this is really unacceptable.
