Francisco emailed me that the ever-so-popular $15/year OpenVZ VPS package from BuyVM.net is available for ordering again. Here is what you will get
- 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
- 15GB storage
- 500GB/month data transfer
- 1x IPv4 + 16x IPv6
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
Servers with HE.net in Fremont CA. BuyVM is probably one of first few VPS providers that got native IPv6 working correctly. IPv4 will be exhausted soon — APNIC just got 2 last /8 from IANA, and when we will be completely out of IPv4 addresses would be anyone’s guess. There are also some extra features from BuyVM to set itself apart from other budget providers.
- /dev/net/tun is available by default, and all VPS support PPTP VPN.
- Free DNS hosting
- 5GB of free off-site backup space
- Private IP for internal traffic
- Offloaded MySQL for $0.99/month
There are also 256MB instances for $3.50/month and 512MB instances for $5.95/month. BuyVM is part of Frantech that has been around since 2007 (according to domain age).

On the topic of IP space, we actually just got approved for a /19 (8000 ip’s) just the other day from ARIN. They were ruthless this time around to say the least.
Francisco
:P I can’t even get a Class C out of them.
Very nice offer. Are you planing to expand to .eu location?
At some point.
We have our own IP space and enough of it that we could roll another location easily now ;)
Francisco
Would be great to see your servers in Europe. :)
Would be nice so see some Buyvm offers on German/Nederlands Servers :D
I’m thinking Germany at this point.
I have a few quotes actually. And now with this IP space it could go nicely.
Francisco
+2 for Germany and +1 for Nederlands!
Germany is great for all of Europe
I would love another germany node :-)
I do have to say that everyting is going really well, my server is running a tor middle (secure) node, and the only problem i ever had was running close to the BW quota. Really nice.
PS
not willing to exchange the current BW limit on my shell for a speed limited one? ;)
We’ve done this before, just give us an idea of what kind of cap you’re after and I’ll see if I can get it done :)
Francisco
Well a simple calculation
31 days = 2 678 400 seconds
(500 GB (gigabytes))/(2 678 400 seconds)= 7.375 Mb/s (megabits per second)
split it by 2 (in and out trafic)
(7.375 Mb/s (megabits per second))/2 = 3.6875 Mb/s (megabits per second)
So what about the same price and lets say 3 megabits per second?
If its easy to setup on your side i don’t have to deal with quotas/limits/bursts anymore
I got one some month ago. At the begining, the server was always down. After almost a month, the server has never been down since then. In a word, I think it’s realy a good offer.
How are you supporting PPTP on openvz? Custom kernel or something?
Magic Ponies.
:)
It takes a LOT of work to get all of the features we have in place working properly. A lot of the time our users don’t have a ‘need’ for XEN anymore.
Francisco
Magic Ponies?
Heh heh heh, I thought it was little hamsters :)
Great job Francisco
Would you be using veth by any chance ? :)
On BuyVM all of these features (PPTP, IPv6, etc) work without veth, with the usual venet.
We generally don’t like veth but we plan to launch a new feature soon that utilizes it.
We’re getting pretty close to the point of ‘why bother with xen?’
:)
Francisco
@Francisco Since you have a VMware cluster, that is a valid point, otherwise HVM is the simple answer.
Care to share how its possible because i have never been able to get PPTP to work on OpenVZ
Company secrets, magic ponies, etc.
Sorry :)
Francisco
I’ve one of those, awesome work by Francisco.
I would like to see those prices at an European place.
IRC is allowed?
QUIET IRC is allowed :)
Pretty much IRC is fine so long as you aren’t running onto networks trying to get flooded.
Francisco
Im from Germany, if you need help in finding a Host, because mostly german Providers have only a German Website, im sure i can help you. i can also ask on some german hosting board if you tell me your needed specs.
i dont think so…
oneandone(1und1) has a english page
Server4you has a english page (.com)
and some smaller company’s have english pages too
Almost every German provider have an english website and the most do have english support too. Also I think there are lot of people here from Germany on LEB :)
Do you have a testfile?
And also I am interested on .eu location :)
Woops!
Loading up stock quickly everyone! :)
Thanks!
Francisco
I just tried…are you out of these now?
For a few hours.
I already got Anthony working to spin up another node so we’ll have a bunch more.
Thanks!
Francisco
when there will be more?
I did not use buyvm before, but I really want to have a try.
Would be nice to see your servers in NL, there are more then plenty of hetzner resellers to buy from, and the same 128mb is sold by nordic and someone else for 14$/y.
Nordic doesn’t sell theirs anymore since they claim to lose money on it. AvailableVPS is the same as far as i know :)
We’re still look into our options. For now we’re looking to fill out the last of our spaces in Fremont.
Francisco
The last of your Fremont spaces? Is this batch the last of the 128MB stock you’ll be having?
NordicVPS has again some 128 mb VPS’s but they increased the price to 20/year.
I have two questions. First: getting 2x128mb is cheaper than 1x256mb, so is there any hidden logic in yor pricing? You’ll also getting 2IPs as opposed to one with default 256mb package.
Second: excuse my ignorance, but what is “Offloaded MySQL for $0.99/month”?
IP’s aren’t an expense for us so that’s not a big deal.
Many users need the space all in one spot for whatever reason so the 256MB/512MB plans get ordered quite a bit.
As for the SQL, instead of you running an SQL server and having to tune it/pay for the ram/etc, we provide a login/password to a hosted solution where you can then import your data, etc, and not worry about that.
Francisco
I have two boxes with you right now (great service, btw) and was curious about the MySql hosting when I saw it. Is there a panel with it such as PHPmyadmin, as I’m not too familiar with anything else?
And then it’s possible to connect to MYSQL in command line and do everything as it was our own server?
Sounds nice.
Any limits in database size for example?
You can connect over CLI & over the phpmyadmin that’s there. You can also connect to it from outside of our network.
There’s no limit on database size but if you try to load up a 20G backup of lord knows what you’ll likely get a boot to the face :P
Francisco
Francisco, do you support Stored Procedures on shared mysql?
Sure do :)
You may need to request superadmin access to add them, but they’re supported just like views.
Francisco
Just wanted to add that I’m loving my $15/year BuyVM VPS. Running solid and the IPv6 ‘just works’.
For those thinking about the hosted MySQL though, I enquired about whether one of my databases would be ‘too big’ for this service (~3GB data, ~3GB indexes for ~120million rows) and was told that I’d need to upgrade to a bigger BuyVM VPS (i.e. not the $15/yr) to be able to put this database on thier hosted MySQL.
This isn’t a complaint, because for $15/year one can’t really expect to be able to have a hosted SQL service anyway, but just thought I’d let people know!
Keep up the good work Francisco!
3GB indices… People usually recommend the entire index to fit into RAM for optimal performance. I think you’ll need a few upgrade there :)
Hehe this database isn’t running on the 128mb/$15yr VM!
The indexes were the main reason we didn’t approve of it. If you could get it lower it’d be fine but yea :)
Francisco
I posted a Sales ticket on their website two days ago, and so far no answer. Ok, I understand it was Sunday the day I posted an inquiry, but yesterday was Monday, and if it takes Sales department more than one business day to write a simple “Yes” or “No” as an answer, I really can’t imagine how they treat their existing customers. It’s definitely not the way to go, especially in this competitive business when there are hundreds of companies out there offering low end VPS servers.
You have just lost one customer.
Amir
Did you come on our live chat?
It’s quite likely it got bounced along the way. I can assure you that we have 90+ customers in our live chat right now getting assistance on when we’re getting new stock, assistance setting something up or having silly conversations.
We don’t have a sales@ email and request everything be done in actual tickets. I apologize if the ‘send a sales email’ system isn’t working right, I’ll have to look into it in the morning.
Francisco
I went to http://www.buyvm.net/contactus.php, and there is a link for online tickets at the bottom of the site. That’s where I posted my Sales ticket. This morning, when I didn’t found an answer to my ticket, I went to the same page, and found web chat option at the bottom of the page which leads to: https://chat.dairc.net/?c=frantech.
However, it seems the link is broken. Now I see a “Chat with us” link at the top of BuyVM.net which seems to work. I’m sorry, but I really don’t time to chase around just to find broken links. Although your prices are really low (considering what your users get), and from what I read on the Internet your users are really satisfied, I believe your answer would be “No” anyway, so I’ll just pass on this one.
Amir
We do our best to offer the best deals we can with some of the best feature sets we can.
We’re aware that the chat.dairc link is down and already have the link changed in an updated version of the site going up this week.
As I said, I’m sorry that the pre-sales link is acting up on our WHMCS.
If you still want to talk directly to me you can contact admin@frantech.ca but for now I’ll simply say this:
I’m sorry that your first experience with us wasn’t as good as we aim for everyone. We’ll fix up the little quirks in our site and keep a better eye out for those things.
Thanks,
Francisco
Out of stock. ;(
Y, out of stock.. I just wanted to give it a try .
A few hours :)
Francisco
Interesting offer, when will you have more available?
Any test IP?
Thanks!
:)
205.185.112.1 will do :)
We’ll have some more later today. We’re also hoping to have 256MB plans available today as well.
Francisco
Is that IP in Canada or California? VisualRoute is showing that IP as being in Canada. This offer is for a Californian VPS correct?
We’re a Canadian company so ARIN will mark the IP as belonging to our business location.
The servers are in Fremont, though :)
Francisco
Can you Not SWIP the IP’s ? then they will appear from different location
Such as: http://whois.domaintools.com/174.138.163.34
@Daniel – We can and have already considered SWIPing all of them to an address in the US.
The problem is that some geo databases go by the main owners address and not the reallocated (SWIP) entries.
To date we’ve been fine with this way of doing it.
We might setup an RWHOIS server at a later time, though, so then we can try to GEO single IP’s to wherever a customer might want.
Francisco
Ok, sounds good.
Is it possible to have more than 1 IPv4 IP? (would need 2 of them actually)
Anyway, is it possible to really use the server? (I need to run some php tasks every X hours and I heard that some openvz providers kick you out if you actually sometimes do some “heavy math” on your server…)
At this time there is no limit on IP’s. We don’t give a discount, though, so they bill at $1/m/ea.
We prefer our servers ‘sit and look pretty’, not actually do any work :P Kidding aside you’re welcome to use what’s there when you need it. We have some nodes that have users running mass video conversions (some anime groups converting blu-rays fr instance) and none of the other users on the nodes feel it/know it. We leave a lot of room for everyone to breathe and do weekly audits of every node to make sure they’re running as smoothly as we can without downtime windows.
Francisco
“BuyVM is probably one of first few VPS providers that got native IPv6 working correctly.”
Small correction (as I mentioned in some other thread) – one of first openVZ VPS providers that got native IPv6 working correctly. IPv6 problem is “always” with openVZ providers.
(Xen VPS providers never had issues)
Some manage to derp up their IPv6 even on Xen and Dedicated, something to do with ‘the datacenter router not routing the IPs correctly’ at all, or ‘it works for the first few hours, then stops’.
Just like all of the Softlayer XEN providers had working ipv6 as well right?
:D
Sorry, I had to take a jab. You’re right, OpenVZ + IPV6 is a pain in the ass.
Francisco
I talking about direct experience with LEB featured hosts. 2 or 3 openVZ hosts which offered IPv6 had same issues – IPv6 was pingable, but that’s all. No other access. At some point I suggested them (as joke) to hire Francisco to fix it for them.
Xen providers usually don’t have those problems and those which offer IPv6 usually give us as it should be – fully working. Most OpenVZ providers started to offer IPv6 recently while we use some Xen boxes with native IPv6 flawlessly per ages. So yes, issues are MOSTLY with openVZ providers which often offer us IPv6 which isn’t functional.
When using a tool like SolusVM, its not always just plug and play, so sometimes hosts experienced problems but most had got native IPv6 working now.
Relying on solus to run your IPV6 is a nightmare waiting to happen. We’ve already had it out with their developers because of how half-assed their current IPV6 setup is.
There is a very likely chance that we’ll be replacing solus with a homegrown solution within the first half of this year because of how ‘all over the place’ solus is with their work. Our own inhouse scripts handled auto IPv6 assigning much better than Solus.
Francisco
So does that mean that websites will think that I’m coming from Canada or from the US? I’m looking to set this up as a OpenVPN server since I’m an American expat living overseas and always have trouble with credit cards. If they still “think” that I’m coming from Canada, then it defeats the purpose for me.
I still have another VPS server of yours truly in Canada so you already have my business ;-). And yes, I’m a very happy customer of yours.
We have IP’s that are owned by HE themselves so they’ll geo locate to Fremont California and always have. If/when you place an order just log a ticket with support and we’ll give you one of these instead at no additional cost :)
I’m glad you’re pleased!
Thanks again,
Francisco
Thanks,
support ticket was executed same day, new IP is now 72.52.102.xxx – thanks!
Only one thing, I had to change the routing table first, as by default all traffic was routed to venet0:0 which featured an internal 172.16/12 IP, thus I couldn’t make any outgoing connections.
Apart from that I’m happy with my new backup/testing/VPN server;) Speed incoming and outgoing (large files, European and American locations) at about 5-10 MBit/s, enough for me (and even more, for less than a Euro per month!)
On more high end packages, price difference is huge between frantech & buyvm. What’s the technical difference?
(Openvz vs Vmware i guess?)
Anyway, I’d have a privacy question: when do you give away personal information regarding a customer?
Thanks :)
VMWARE + Frantech is managed.
We’d have to be court ordered by the Canadian courts for any sort of release to happen.
Thanks,
Francisco
Great!
Waiting for your available slots though :)
Are the prices in CAD or USD?
1 Canadian dollar = 1.00251 U.S. dollars
And they are in USD, only f-tards would say “$” without clarification, while meaning AUD or CAD or whateverD.
@rm : and the billing system says USD, didn’t saw that.
Was not sure as it’s a canadian company, thanks for the confirmation :)
Still waiting for some stock…
waiting for the slot. is there any slot available at now?
@indonesia store, couldn’t you follow the link up in the post and find out? That’s what I did. A quick check of their website shows only 512 and above currently available.
As of 33 minutes ago, looks like they’re allocating some more:
http://twitter.com/FrantechCA/status/32416634178113536
” We are currently out of stock on this item so orders for it have been suspended until more stock is available. For furthur information, please contact us. ”
Either there was not many slots and they are already gone, or they need time to reload more slots?
Have you guys been able to order?
eh eh
wonder when it will be reloaded :)
<3 BuyVM.
Servers Are OUT OF STOCK
hi, Francisco
Will be there any more 128MB or 256MB plans today?
128MB’s at minimum, waiting on my tech to confirm if he can get to the DC to install our 256MB node.
Francisco
Oh, by the way, we have 128MB’s in stock ;)
Have at it!
Francisco
Great :) This is a new node with only 128Mb slices on it?
Correct :)
We segregate our plans into designated nodes for auditing/performance purposes.
Francisco
Ok, and that makes sense also for those of us who buy a slightly bigger package – they are on a server with less people.
How many 128Mb slices do you fit in one server though?
Thanks anyway for the time you spend here with us Francisco, and thanks LEA for this website :)
We usually get about 70 – 80 to a node with the majority of our nodes being ~1 loads.
Francisco
So what happens if someone needs to upgrade? Got me curious now.
We leave a fair bit of overhead on everything to allow for users upgrading. We got some 128MB nodes where we have people on 512MB+ plans and they’re nothing short of happy.
We have to sometimes reorganize nodes so we do our best to handle this with live migrations and such.
Francisco
Just bought one for my Blog
And 256/512 vps? out of stock :( When could i buy one of these?
One more thing. About 15$/year vps when i’m buying it, why you ask for the dns?(what happend if i dont have dns) Do u provide an ip?
Thanks, i must ask before buying.
We’re working on 256’s.
The DNS is because WHMCS is annoying like that, we’ll fiddle with it more later to hopefully turn that off. You can just put ‘ns1.frantech.ca’ and ‘ns2.frantech.ca’. Yes, you’ll get an IP in the welcome email.
As for the 256’s, we hope to have some in a few days. Are you looking to get one of each?
Francisco
I usually just put * in them fields.
Can you change reverse entries for ipv6 addr’s via SolusVM yet? That has been broken for sometime.
Nope.
I actually publicly bitched them out on their developer tracker about their terrible work ethic when completing features:
http://developer.soluslabs.com/issues/47
At this point we’re already investing time into building something inhouse to replace solus.
Francisco
Good luck with your inhouse replacement, I gives extra street cred for provider who does that :)
Francisco, it seems that you are the one of the few providers who realize the importance of migrating or prepare to migrate to IPv6, and you are one who know what you are doing.
2 thumbs up bro :)
That and we love giving tons of working features ;)
Francisco
BuyVM is like an elite private torrent site :)
Signups are usually closed (analogy: out of stock)
Occasionally they’ll open for new registrations (add new stock)
haha
New slogan:
“BuyVM – The OINK of the VPS market”
:D
Francisco
Haha :D
At the same time this stock of 128MB’s is lasting more than a few hours ;)
https://my.frantech.ca/cart.php?a=confproduct&i=0
The WHT crowd isn’t hammering at it right now so :) We’re selling a good amount each day so we’re happy.
WHT is becoming quite ruthless to sell on. We posted and were pushed to page 3 within a few days. Usually we stay on the front page for at least a day but I guess everyone is hard pressed to try to sell and take a bite out of the budget market.
For those interested, we have Windows 2003 plans on Frantech opening later today.
Thanks!
Francisco
There are still 128’s to be had. The 256’s are currently out.
Francisco, yes i want to buy one of 256/512. I tried one more time today, but it’s out.
If you are at irc or something i can connect to talk.
I’ve caught you on IRC :)
We’ll have more stock on our 256’s in a few hours and if you’re still interested in that windows VM you should pay attention to http://frantech.ca
Thanks!
Francisco
I would like to try 256MB as well. please post it on twitter I’m following you there..
@Francisco, Does the processing power increase proportionally to the RAM size moving from 256 to 512?
They both have fair share access to 2 full cores.
I’ll announce on there when we have it :)
Francisco
hi ~
can you supply the CentOS minimal OS .
i saw Ubuntu supply the Minmal edition, and i hope Centos can too.
thank you :D
I bought a 128MB plan :).
btw, when will you support alipay? It would help for users from China.
And Happy Chinese New Year to all guys here!!
新春快乐,兔年大吉!
Happy New Year :)
Happy New Year!
Well im curious how you get profit if you just fit only about 80 customers on one node! You need to have at least 12GBRAM to fit 80 128MB clients and you only get $100 per node a month because customers paying $1.25 a month.
Can you make profits with $100 a month for 12GB RAM and quad core node?
Thanks
In the first place Is it possible to get a quad core server with 12gb ram and 1TB+ hard disk for just $100/month?
Forgot to add bandwidth cost also :)
It’s not really a problem to get such a server under 100 bucks. For example check hetzner in Germany: http://www.hetzner.de/hosting/produktmatrix/rootserver-produktmatrix-eq (2nd product)
*barf* Hetzner….
Or this can be just a way to make some noise around their name to get to be more known, while selling products where they make more profit?
That would explain why they run out of stock pretty fast – the main goal is not to offer as much 128mb as possible…
(?)
:)
We offer lots of them. Whenever we load stock for these we add 100 or so of them :)
There’s more to how buyvm works than simply OVZ installed on some boxes.
Francisco
We colocate everything, own our IP space and many other things so our operating costs are very low :)
Francisco
@Francisco, i try to order one, but before i change my country accidentaly click submit,
and my order was flagged with fraud.
never happened with other vps before :(
Just log a ticket and we’ll correct it :)
Francisco
@francisco thanks, now it Fixed :)
How does the 5GB backup work? I signed up for this deal last time and would like to use it.
Thanks!
You should be sent a welcome email with login details.
The storage is simply an FTP account so you have to arrange your own backup routine and FTP it off to this server.
Thanks :)
Francisco
the title must be change not available temporary,
and now i get banned from their channel in irc :(
not very friendly to ppl
Sorry, but I have been on there irc and unless you where bitching and moaning no one would ban you for nothing and after the irc ban this sentence makes much more sense “change my country accidentaly click submit”.
im not english native speaker, and i think their direction on irc is not clear for me. Anyway this morning got notification that BuyVm was fixed this.
thanks BuyVM
I have two of their 256 @ $15 and their offloaded mySQL and I am pretty happy. Speeds seem to be great and uptime with two different vps on different nodes is very high. And with the offloaded mysql its like having a dedicated backend without having to do it myself or even pay the cost. At under 5 dollars a month I have to say I am very impressed.
We try our best :)
I’m glad the offloaded SQL is working well for you!
Francisco
Francisco
128 out stock since yesterday? any information will be available again?
“We are currently out of stock on this item so orders for it have been suspended until more stock is available. For furthur information, please contact us.”
pindank
I am joining to the party n_n
But, currently my VPS is down, ho!
node27 is in the middle of a fsck.
We had ANOTHER flaky power strip at HE on these new nodes. We’ve replaced it and the FSCK should be done shortly.
Francisco
Thanks francisco, I submitted a ticket right now.
Out of stock again?
Will be any more available?
Thanks.
Please make some more, 256 ones too.
( I had post again to subscribe to comments;-)
out of stock
Both 128MB and 256MB plan are ‘out of stock’!
Francisco,
I ordered 512 VM last night but have not received any info yet (other than payment receipt)
How long it takes for new VM to be setup?
Thanks.
OK, just got it.
I want to know more about this “Offloaded MySQL hosting”
How many databases can I have on it?
Do I have to purchase one for each database?
Thanks.
You can have an ‘unmetered’ amount of databases. We don’t enforce space limits on the SQL databases but if you try to go import a 10 – 20G database you’ll hear from us :)
Francisco
And how secure is this shared mysql thing?
Can we create different users with different privileges?
You sure can.
You can create different users/access levels as well as control what IP’s can access it.
:)
Francisco
Thanks Francisco, one more question:
what MySQL hostname do I use? url of Mysql cpanel?
and if my site is on the node with you do I need to add my site to “Remote Database Access Hosts ” to use database?
thanks.
Got it answered form support ;-)
Just wanted to update everyone here on my early experience with BuyVM.
Unfortunately all 128 and 256 packages are out of stock so I got 512MB package (maybe last one as even 512 is out of stock now)
Installed LNMP script on fresh Debian and uploaded 3 of my wordpress blogs. I also purchased their “Offloaded MySQL hosting” to host my databases on different server – for $1 a month, it’s a steal.
I’m impressed so far, sites run fast, I/O is good and I love the idea of “Offloaded MySQL hosting” leaving all RAM on VM for Nginx and PHP.
So far so good.
LNMP is another great scripts. Really BuyVM I/O pretty cool? Then i wish to buy :P
I don’t know maybe I jumped into conclusion. Today I’m getting kind of low I/O on my node 26 , 17KB/s(in KB not MB)
Website still runs fairly fast tho. Maybe there is a problem on the node.
As long as it does not go down like 123systems ;-)
Try measuring as described in http://romanrm.ru/en/dd-benchmark , method #3 (conv=fdatasync)
I think you were using oflag=dsync which can give unrealistically low results sometimes.
Thanks, with method #3 I get 49MB/s
Much better ;-)
We’re actually working to improve that more :)
We have some boxes that can easily pull 100 – 180MB/sec after a bunch of optimizing we did.
Francisco
How much do you charge for a cPanel license?
We don’t provide cPanel but we do have a coupon with one of the cPanel distributors to get users a license for $2/m cheaper than normal :)
We make nothing from the referral, it’s strictly for the benefit of our customers.
Francisco
Francisco
Still no luck, out of stock :(
Yes we need some more 128 and 256 VMs and 512 too
Francisco, Any idea when you’ll have more available?
As far as I know we’ll have more 128’s & 256’s today. :)
As for 512’s we’ll have those on the weekend.
Francisco
Great! I missed the last batch by about 5 minutes, now I’ll be hitting refresh on the order form for the rest of the day!
Francisco, please help me with my ticket #606914, which is undergoing for 3 days
your staff may get some trouble
I’ll check on that :)
Francisco
Thanks! I got this working now~~~
Anyone have any reviews? Is there system status or history page? Some uptime numbers?
For example this is linode’s and OPEN dns
http://status.linode.com/
http://system.opendns.com/
WHT has a bunch :)
Francisco
https://my.frantech.ca/announcements.php
The following products have been reloaded:
– BuyVM 128MB
– BuyVM 256MB
– Frantech 512MB (Windows)
– Frantech 1GB (Windows)
– Frantech 2GB (Windows)
Have at it! :)
Francisco
Just order it…. however mark as fraud on the system :(
Ticket #797547
Pending setup, at last! :D
I’ve been trying to grab one of these magic ponies all week…
Just picked one up. Will be useful as an extra DNS server and pulling some small backups via rsync every so often :).
Thanks.
Just ordered :)
Guys,
seems that buyvm is ok but is better for them stop new accounts…too many people there.
They have great support!
Although their service is not near satisfactory from where I am (horribly slow network speed). They replied within 2 minutes (This is especially to my surprise as that was the day this promotion is announced. There should be a lot of new users and they must be busy) and refunded me after I submitted a ticket complaining within 2 days.
Really sorry I can’t run my box at buyvm. Great provider! (except for that the connection is slow from where I am)
mmh…the ticket system did not work for me, I sent a ticket 3 hours ago and I’m still waiting…
Mind giving me the results of our test file?
http://buyvm.net/100mb.test
Also what country are you based in?
Francisco
Unfortunately I got an opposite experience with their support. I have no idea if they are working on my ticket, seem took forever even for simple problem. Just like idiom in my country “ono rego ono rupo” LOL
Finally I got my vps with direct space network with $4.00/mo
Rgds
What was your ticket ID?
Everything gets handed pretty quick but i’d still be curious.
Thanks!
Fran
@pindank
Keep us updated about direct space network. Website seems nice with live uptime/problem reports and some good guarantees.
If you want first hand experience of directspace, single thread transfer speed to west coast is good (up to 100Mbps), to east coast and europe is crap (2-3Mbps), to central USA is alright (~15Mbps), to Japan is good (6Mbps), to China and Hong Kong is alright (2-4Mbps).
It is cheap and reliable but don’t expect premium network performance.
I would say the network of DirectSpace is crap…
@Gene
Where are you from?
What is the average time to activate the vm?
After payment confirmation I mean.
Taken a 128 MB about 5 hours ago,but nothing yet (only payment confirmation)
Thanks
I’m eager to test the package I ordered. This is my first time in buyvm.net hoping that the network speed is not slow from where I am. If the speed meets my need I am willing to buy another package for my client here. :)
WE’ll have some setups done in a little bit :)
Francisco
Vps activated, maybe a little bit paranoid anti-fraud system and a huge different timezone worked versus me,but in the end after 14h the vps is up.
Must say, they have a nice support and community on the irc channels, thaks to Delta (suppose is Francisco) that taken care of my ticket, don’t know if he really done something, but after 1h that leaved him the ticket number my vps go in active state, but for me (my timezone) it’s black night time, but this is another story……..
However seems nice company, only the time can confirm it,but however it’s a good start :)
Invoice #16806 mark as fraud. Already corrected my address like my paypal biz account but still not received an info. You may cancel my order.
I would like to order one but they’re out of stock now :(
We have some 256MB’s if you’re interested? :)
Francisco
Yes but they’re out of stock … Again …
We hope to have the following stock by tonight:
– BuyVM 128MB
– BuyVM 512MB
– BuyVM 1G/2G
Thanks :)
Francisco
I just hope I can get a 128 mb in time Francisco.
Regards,
Are your Windows VPS powered by free ESXi or powered by fully licensed VMWARE??
Full blown ESX :)
They’re all sold out for now but we should have a bit more Windows stock in the coming week.
Francisco
Completely out of stock again
As I mentioned to Hexel, we’ll have more tonight :)
You can search for his name on this page and it’ll show my post.
Francisco
Can’t wait to sign up now that available VPS seems to be dead :(
Sorry to hear about your loss :(
We’re working quickly on this though :)
Hope it won’t be up while i’m sleeping tho ;) (euro time )
Figured i’d just add a note here for those interested – We’ll have fully working IPV6 RDNS working sometime today :)
I’ve been developing a fix for the errors in the current code. The code is finished and working great, we’re just having to install an additional DNS server and we’re golden.
Thanks!
Francisco
You should give/sell your fixed code to SolusLabs when done.
They were quite upset with me that I would try to fix the code without their permission. I’ve given them a copy of my code either way.
Francisco
What do you expect?
You broke their EULA by reverse engineering their software. I know I wouldn’t be happy about it.
Honestly I wrote my own page in there and just used PHP’s built in functions to find out what classes I needed :)
They’re happier at this point though since I commited a copy of the code to them to prove we’re not being malicious with it. They’re even trying to help debug a few of the quirks I had to work around.
Francisco
Any idea if/when new stock will become available? I was able to order one VPS when they were restocked and I regret not ordering another. Very great service so far.
IPV6 RDNS is now active & working fully inside of solus.
Set it like you would have at any other time and the record will propagate to our dedicated DNS server.
Thanks!
Francisco
Congratulations Francisco & Support Team.
As far as I know, you are the only Low End VPS provider (with all the bells and whistles) who take the IPV6 migration preparation seriously, and you really know what you are doing. :)
I really need to learn from your experience. Love it!
The great thing here? I can change my rnds entry myself, generally you are not allowed :D
Francisco , any news about new VPS availability ? Thank you.
Hi everyone,
We’ve now imported all of our ‘legacy’ IPV6 addresses. This means if your IPV6 addresses ended with 1 – 16, you will now see them listed in solus and be able to assign RDNS without issue.
We’ve now added archlinux & debian 6 to our available templates.
Thanks!
Francisco
It actually works/propagate in like… minute. Good job!
Why do people act surprised about this? :)
It either makes me feel like we’re not delivering on our promises or that it’s a thing of amazement that we got it together.
Fran
Installation of mysql-server package on new Debian 6 template fails. Not sure if this is a memory thing as it was tested on a 128MB plan. Obviously not complaining as the template was labeled beta, just FYI.
Mind sending a log of what fails to admin@frantech.ca and I’ll check it out? It’s possible it’s a memory thing but you should have some burst spare?
Francisco
I was able to get it running by reinstalling the OS and installing mysql it BEFORE lighttpd and PHP, but it still threw a few warnings which I’ve sent you. Thanks for quick response!
Thanks :)
Is everything running now? MySQL + LIG + PHP? If so then it sounds like a possible install error and not a RAM thing. Then again, maybe apt-get/aptitude has become as fat as yum :P
Francisco
Yeah seems to be running okay now, but total memory usage is about 20-25MB higher than a nearly identical Debian 5 config. I guess it costs to have the latest and greatest.
Have you followed this guide?
http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/reducing-mysql-memory-usage-for-low-end-boxes/
Trojan :|.
http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=http://frantech.ca/
Thanks for the heads up but I don’t really see any sort of issue with either file. From the looks of it the file is just a game patcher but it seems that norton doesn’t like how it uses it.
We really need to look into getting a different domain for our ‘free subdomain’ customers =\
Thanks,
Francisco
Classic heuristics ¬_¬ norton…
Hello All! I just need a piece of info from you guys.
I want to host my billing portal on a VPS. Is the $15/year plan sufficient for me to install Hostbill with a Comdo SSL certificate? This is just to make a beginning. After I get few clients, I can upgrade. Or should I go for a higher plan. My main concern is the 128mb RAM. Is it sufficient. It is not a high traffic site at all. Please advice as my budget is “lowend”. Will it lead to low performance issues. I am just starting out so initially Ill begin with no clients and then start gaining clients.
Any help is appreciated.
You should be fine with NGINX + hostbill on this plan. I have used hostbill on a 64 MB XEN VPS, it worked great. :)
Thats great. Thanks for the reply.
You just piqued my curiosity. Is the 64 MB XEN VPS from onexenvps, the plan with free hostbill?
Hostbill
Still out of stock? Francisco….we need more….;-)
We’re actually working to secure a new payment gateway before we release our next round of stock :)
Hopefully we’ll have it ready for the morning.
Francisco
it’s still out of stock.. :(
any ETA?
This looks like a great deal, i’m really looking forward to buying a 128MB when they become available…
…i’ve been checking every day for weeks >_>
I guess it’d be a good idea to add an update to this thread :)
– At this point we’ve been accepted to alipay and are working on implementing it into our billing panel.
– IPV6 RDNS is in place as I stated and working perfectly :)
– We’re still on track for some more stock this week!
Thanks,
Francisco
Woops, ended that too soon!
– There is some performance tuning taking place this week on some of our nodes so be sure to keep an eye on twitter/announcements. This should hopefully address IO performance issues on nodes 10 & 11 at least!
Thanks,
Francisco
@Francisco, ETA on when you will have stock of 128MB?
I need 2 more VPSs..
Very soon :)
Francisco
waiting on Twitter, hope I will not miss it.
Hey Chris,
Do you plan to start nodes in other places?
Canada would be cool & Europe could be great (NL? LU? DE?..)…
Thanks anyway, great service so far!
Who’s Chris?
My mistake.. Francisco…
:)
We’re planning growth into Europe sometime this year but we’re taking our time with it for now to make sure we get the best offers together that we can.
Thanks,
Chris
Er…
Francisco :D
@Fran, seems like you have your own ASN now? Glad to see your company is doing well. Looking forward to new stocks and europe expansion :P
@id – Yep :)
The ASN is online and announce all of our subnets. In January we were approved for a /19 from ARIN as well :)
Francisco
For those interested we now support alipay for payments from China and such :)
With this working we’re now finalizing our stock for release for sure this week! :)
Francisco
Excellent. I want to get one of your 128mb VPS’s as soon as possible.
http://twitter.com/#!/FrantechCA/status/43411713508376576
:)
Francisco
Is it me or is it my node? I can’t hardy install anything. I tried using different templates but error is still the same. System was slow doing installation, I tried everything.. I tried everything from pacman, apt-get to yum, same results. I submitted tickets but didn’t get any reply. Anyone got the same issues?
What’s your ticket ID and i’ll take a peak? Sometimes containers get marked as abusive by our monitoring system when they aren’t so they get their access adjusted.
It could also be that you are on the wrong resource plan. Pacman isn’t the fastest beast around but apt-get/yum should be pretty decent?
Let me know either way and I’ll look into it :)
Francisco
24 hour notice has been given over twitter! It’s the final countdown! ( http://buyvmcountdown.cedricd.org )
Still the same. :(
http://twitter.com/#!/FrantechCA/status/43411713508376576
Hey,
I know this is kind of late (judging from the date of the thread) but would you mind answering a few questions :)
I am interested in the $12.95 package, does this come with the 16x ipv6 IP addresses? Also instead of the 3000GB bandwidth do you think you could decrease this and increase the disk space?
If so then i plan to buy as soon as they come in stock (~40 mins)
Thanks!
My billing staff won’t clear any sort of ‘special deals’ or ‘customizations’ this sales round, sorry :(
We do sell additional space addons, though.
Thanks,
Fran
Ah :(
What about if i got the 5.95/month, how much would a 20 GB extra space addon be? Also how much are the IP’s? (IPv4)
$5/m per 50G additional space, IP’s are $1.00/m each :)
Thanks,
Fran
Perfect! :)
For those of you who go by GMT (UK):
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/gmt/gmt-8.htm
http://buyvmcountdown.cedricd.org/ is much funnier :)
Francisco
@Fran. when will the next round be? you mentioned somewhere it will be June/July, right?
The next batch i believe will be in 15 mins :)
Hahaha, alright, the one after that?
A few months away we figure unless demand is so so strong that we get pushed into it :)
Francisco
damn I missed the $15 ones again.
Ordered :)
21:00 – No Stock
21:04 – UP: Stock, started ordering.
21:05 – DOWN: Yes, we’re getting ready to add stock. Please be patient :3
21:10 – Brought and paid for.
21:53 – VPS UP and created.
IPv6, having a few issues but after 5 mins of investigation i figured that i needed to make a new adaptor with the ipv6 adaptor. Still does not work.. Not quite sure why but i will ask in a ticket but I am still waiting for them to answer my other one.
I/O: (one taken as soon as i brought it and the other at 21:52, 05/03/11)

Overall i think it is a great VPS for the amount you are paying however, support is slower than what i have normally experienced. (not to mentian my other 50GB space has still not been applied) I am pretty sure i was one of the first people to order seeing as i was actually watching the countdown and waiting :D
Got a ticket for me on the IPV6? :)
The space isn’t automated at this point, sorry :(
Francisco
I did not create a ticket about the IPv6 because i thought it would be better to get the issues i raised (in the other ticket) before sorted and then mention the IPv6. However i have created a ticket now so you can have a look :)
275774
Thanks.
have a question: how many IPs can a vps have? As many as we can pay? or have a max amount like 2 IPs?
There’s no limit at this time but if you come asking for 20 or something you’ll need to explain why.
$1/m per IP, no discounts.
:)
Francisco
They gone?
http://isitup.org/buyvm.net
“buyvm.net seems to be down :(“
That was just our site. We’ve been doing some changes to help with the next round of sales.
It’s alright now :)
Francisco
Francisco, When you going to have more stock? Just tried to buy a VM but alas all sold out..
More’s coming soon :)
We have a funny site, http://doesbuyvmhavestock.com that you can monitor for live stock statuses :)
Stock moves fast here, we sold around ~300 vps’s in ~24 hours so if you’re really gunning to get one you gotta be quick!
Francisco
My VPS still offline in 3 days. When I press the boot button, the VPS cannot bootup.
Do you have a ticket ID for me? We watch through all move arounds we do but it’s always possible one got stuck along the way.
Thanks,
Francisco
They seem to be busy lately and are migration some customers around from node to node — but they are good guys and I am sure your VPS will be back online in no time
Topic on WHT : http://bit.ly/gsoLi6
Could someone please post a working link? Bit shortners are blocked from here.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1030091
There you go :)
Thanks. At least they’re not ranting and raving like a lunatic. Both sides seem interested in resolving the issue.
One of my biggest problems with Direct Admin is that 90%+ of our clients are coming from CPanel. Migrating them into DA is a bitch. The script isn’t 100% nor is CPanel’s backup solution 100%.
try http://unshort.me/ to un-short bit.ly :p
Dr Mike, next time you can use this http://longurl.org in case it’s not blocked as well.
Blocked and blocked. Anything concerning shortners or Tor or proxies is pretty much blocked. Even sites that have articles and tutorials about them. But yet sites like kink (Very NSFW) and demonoid and pirate bay are wide open.
Thanks though.
Wow, what kind of web block are you behind? My favorite, when VPN, SSH-Tunnel, Proxy, Web-Proxy like Glype, TOR/JAP/… aren’t an option and I just need a quick look at something:
Simply add .nyud.net to the server name, like http://bit.ly.nyud.net/gsoLi6
It’ll resolve to one of CoralCDNs servers, which then happily retrieves (and caches, which is actually the intended use) the requested resources. Usually not blocked.
Thanks. Not blocked but not resolving either.
I forget who they use as their main protection (Websense sounds familiar) but they also add in OpenDNS as well as their own blacklist. Many community run 0day security sites are blocked but the commercial ones that reoffer those sites information (usually for a fee or with lots of advertising) are open.
Yes, I can use SSH Tunneling but they’ll cut off the IP address after a while which is why I don’t like using that that often. I only tunnel into my own servers when there’s a need. To be blocked from them would be a nightmare.
When will you have more? I want plan 256 / 512.
The official word is ‘at the start of April’
Francisco
What happened to doesbuyvmhavestock.com? Seems like it’s been down the past few days…
Of course. Now that the library unblocked it, it’s off line. What’s with you, Francisco? I wanted to see the ponies! :)
Broke the DNS zone and been up to my ears in other projects to fix it up :)
@drmike – I got a pony as an avatar, does that work?
Francisco
What did you do that for? DNS isn’t that hard. Got grandmothers as clients who run through that stuff in between their knitting. :)
HAH!
someone *cough* forgot to copy the zone over when doing some DNS maintenance the other day :)
Francisco
http://buyvmcountdown.cedricd.org – Spinny!
Seems like some customers are experience problems with BuyVM ?
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1032892
We’ve already been pretty reasonable I thought with the client and have offered both a credit and a ‘front of the line’ for the corrected equipment we’re rolling out.
We know we have some nodes that perform poorly and we’re spending the next few weeks making sure they’re all perfect before we open more sales. :)
Francisco
hey guys, anyone hving thier box down on node8? also tried to reboot but it still on ‘active’ status on logs.
08’s down for a FSCK, sorry we’ve not posted an announcement yet just I’ve been getting things done with HE to get the KVM, etc in place.
Francisco
not done yet? been 6hrs already.
it finished about 5 – 10 minutes ago so it’s correcting quota files :)
Thanks,
Francisco
my vps on node08 down again after 1 hour back. Offline.
yeah. same here.
Could you both email me at admin@frantech.ca your ip’s and i’ll check into it? if they aren’t up you should be able to boot them in solus :)
The node has been online for quite a few hours though.
Thanks,
Francisco
so ive sent email just after ur comment above, so far no reply. been to solus – reboot, boot, reboot, boot again. so far nothing happened. still offline.
I’ve seen your email, sorry that I haven’t replied yet i’ll have you booting in the next bit :)
Thanks for you patience,
Francisco
@Francisco Dias
Me too, just send my mail 1 hours ago ,still can’t boot or reboot… thanks.
Yeah, node 08 is down for me as well and nothing. Guessing it is the node and not us.
Mine is up now and I can login…
working fine now on mine too.
My login info is suddenly gone.
what a company.
Can you email me at admin@frantech.ca what your details were?
It’s quite possible you had an old service and your account was marked closed.
Thanks!
Francisco
email was sent and no answer.
admin@ doesn’t always get instant replies but I can assure you it has been forwarded to Aldyric to look into :)
@Francisco & Aldyric
I don’t know how you do this, but this is the performance I captured a couple of minutes ago:
Far more better than when I first bought it back in September 2010! Super Awesome!
Should give it a whirl with fsyncdata :)
I’m assuming you just recently got copied over to the newer deployments?
Francisco
dd bs=1M count=512 if=/dev/zero of=test conv=fdatasync
536870912 bytes (537 MB) copied, 8.19472 seconds, 65.5 MB/s
I’m not sure whether it is copied to the newer deployment, all I know that you and your team are super awesome!
not sure why you’re using 1MB block sizes :) you should do the usually bs=64k count=32k or whatever the combo is.
Either way, we hope to have everyone into the 100MB/sec I/O club soon enough!
Thanks for the compliments,
Francisco
1155973120 bytes (1.2 GB) copied, 15.1708 seconds, 76.2 MB/s
Heh heh heh …. just to make sure the Pony Power Rocks :)
Oh, and for those interested.
We’ve debugged ip6tables on 32bit OS’s so if you’re on 64bit and want to swap to 32bit for a RAM savings, log a ticket and we can correct your setup. We’re still working on a script to help with it, that or we’ll repack some of our templates and go that route.
Thanks for the interest,
Francisco
Yes, other than deleting login info without any warning, machine itself is remarkable.
Good is good, bad is bad, isn’t it?
Hey, give me my login back so that i could cancel the service.
Instead, mine is getting worse at some hours. Today is fast :D
I hope that they’ll start to update the “old” nodes pretty soon as my I/O start to be slower too…
What node are you on Antony?
I can probably give you a timeline from there :)
Francisco
Hey Francisco,
I’m on node 26, is it going to be updated (moved to “newer deployments”) anytime soon as well?
I get low I/O on it and lately (last few days) response has been very slow logging to SSH and in VPS Cp. My site goes down daily even tho in CP says VM is “online”. So I have to reboot every day.
Thanks.
you are going to lose your login info soon, it happened to me, machine slows down and bam!
better cancel or move to somewhere else, I guess.
And there is no answer to the ticket, well I couldn’t send ticket since I couldn’t log in, so
sent one to admin@frantech.ca but as expected, no answer.
Time to open a thread at WHT I guess.
admin@ goes to me personally and it’s a Sunday so i’m not entirely sure how quick on the ball you expect an admin@ email to respond during then? I just replied to you a few minutes ago with what you’ll need to do.
Much thanks,
Francisco
yes, I emailed yesterday, today, and no answer. today is gone.
Now what do you say? Last time I checked, today is Monday.
Are you saying that you don’t work Monday either?
Another day is gone, I wonder what his excuse now is..
Did you try their IRC chat ?
I read somewhere people on their IRC channel get better and faster support ;)
I am sure Francisco will get your problem solved, they probably getting ready for their April sale — that normally attracts 1000s of customers and VPS are sold in minutes but I hope they will have time to take of your problems :)
Good luck!
What happened to buyvm, for the past week their speed went so slow? Any ideas…
Slow in what sense? Mine has lag spikes for example :P (games)
Do you have a ticket ID? It could just be the node you’re on. We’re waiting on a replacement raid card to come in so we can continue our node conversions.
Thanks!
Francisico
when will they offer VPS’s again?
We expect to have stock in about a week or so :)
Francisco
Hey Francisco..
Things are getting worse…
dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 97.6221 s, 11.0 MB/s
Node 27…
Would it be possible to fix that before opening new slots?
Thanks :)
That’s why we’ve not opened any stock :)
Francisco
Great, thanks!:)
Will the prices be the same for the new slots?
Thanks anyway, nice company to have a VPS with!
We’re not raising our prices :)
http://bit.ly/gZmd5B
Francisco
I am in the same node too n_n
Wow, this is the new disk speed after the migration on node 32:
Amazing!
Thanks BuyVM!
Frantastic :)
I’m hoping any sort of latency in your commands/network is gone as well!
Francisco
LOL, Franscisco you know the test result is going to be great isn’t it?
I have another VPS on node 28, when do you think we can move that node over to the new server? :)
Node 27:
Getting better. Sounds like this node is heavily used though :)
node 26 :(
Thank you for another informative blog. Where else could I am getting that kind of information written in such a perfect approach? I have a project that I’m simply now running on, and I have been on the look out for such information.
I?m now not positive the place you are getting your info, but great topic. I must spend some time learning much more or figuring out more. Thanks for great information I used to be looking for this information for my mission.
