LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

URPad - $2 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Orlando

URPad Via this WHT offer. URPad is currently offer $1 off recurring discount on all their unmanaged VPS plans, until the end of April. Use promo code $1OFF when you order. Their 512MB VPS would now be $5/month, whereas their low end “Budget VPS – VPS128” plan is now $2/month, order it here. Here’s the spec:

  • 128MB memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 200GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Good price for a low end box. Servers are with HostDime in Orlando FL (test IP: 66.7.220.78). Unfortunately there is no burstable memory which means the usefulness is halved (assuming average 128MB OpenVZ VPS comes with 256MB burstable memory). Domain registered in September 2010, by Brian who is based in Indiana (presume his WHOIS is filled out accurately). Some good support from him in the previous post, and declared that “We will be around for awhile”. We’ll see.

Burstable memory is usually required only when I am initially compiling modules and stuff. So can you provide burstable memory for a initial few days until I get everything compiled?

    • Can I get you to open a support ticket on our site letting me know how much you would need to use and for how long. We can work something out for you.

OK, I will order in a few days, I am waiting for April 1 (for new financial year) before I spend on more VPS. I will need 256MB (or 512MB if I have to compile mysql also) for a few hours. I have everything scripted to complete in a few hours but I ask for a few days in case I have issues in compiling. I will raise a ticket after I order.

        • That is not a problem. We will get you all setup. Let us know by ticket when you are ready.

Wait… TOS states: User may not: *Run stand-alone, unattended server-side processes at any point in time on the server. This includes any and all daemons, such as IRCD. What else am I going to use a VPS for?!

    April 1, 2011 @ 1:47 pm | Reply
    • That would be correct. We don’t allow IRCD do to the purpose that it can be used to share files. As a result of this, we don’t know if the files that will be shared are legal or illegal files. So in order for us to stop the transfer of any and all illegal files, we don’t allow the programs or daemons that allow this features.

Okay, so by that standard you should ban FTP, HTTP, and SCP as well as they can also be used to share files — legal and illegal alike.

This has to be the most harebrained policy I’ve seen here to date.

        • You would be correct. I should but I don’t. The IRCD not being allowed it now my call. This is the data center’s call. Do to it being in there TOS and AUP, I have to place it in mine as well. I am sorry but I have to follow the policies set in place by the data center.

Brian, I’m not talking about IRCd specifically. According to the current TOS a user isn’t allowed to run anything that survives without a tty. ‘Any and all daemons’ means no sshd, no httpd, no ftpd, no screens, and no mail servers or honeypots of any kind.

You might want to change this to ‘irc/dcc/p2p daemons’, because with current TOS in place users are only allowed to run programs while they are logged in… which kind of defies the purpose of a VPS :) Just saying.

        • Thanks for pointing this out to me. I have updated the ToS to reflect IRC/DCC/P2P Daemons.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. HTTP or FTP can be used to share files too.

  9. URPad has been sold to FTNHosting. Here’s the reference thread at WHT:

    • Hi LowEndAdmin;
I can confirm this is correct and as mentioned in the said thread on WHT we look forward to providing the URPad.net clients the support and quality that each and every client deserves. We see a very bright future and we have been starting to apply alot of improvements which were not intact previously. For example 24×7 support was not the case previously with old management however URPad now has 24×7 support and to prove we mean 24×7 we GUARANTEE 30 minute response times even on holidays and weekends.

We have a new website that will suit the brand much better but that is a work in progress at the moment, if all goes as planned it should be done within a week.

Each and every client is viewed as an asset in our eyes and we have even more exciting changes coming up and we’re confident our clients will be pleased.

      Best,
      Kevin

      • Looks like my response about the new website might of came off incorrectly, what I meant to say is that we will have a new website design coming up that will suit the brand much better. :-p

        Sorry for any misunderstanding,
        Kevin

even more than 30min. to get a response like “we will notify you once we respond” – this doesn’t count as response anyway in my eyes

    > Each and every client is viewed as an asset in our eyes
    sure…

They are going down the toilet. Service worst than ever. Can’t recommend them anymore at all, at least Brian was a good, honest guy.

Thank you for your post. Please provide me with your ticket ID so I can validate you are a customer.

From your post, I assume you are a VPS hosting customer of our URPad.net brand, if that is the case you should have received an email pertaining to our VPS migration. The previous owner of URPad used server specifications that were not really suitable for hosting Virtual Servers, as a result we have decided to migrate the infrastructure to a new setup in Seattle, WA on Dual Xeon/24 GB RAM nodes for better performance and service.

Clients were emailed with their new VPS IP(s). We are confident you will see better service with our new setups.

We have nothing but the best intentions for our loyal customers and we look forward to continue to provide quality service.

      Best,
      Kevin

Give us a try – we’ve recently migrated all virtual containers off of the old infrastructure to new setups in the west coast that have powerful Dual Xeon processors with 24 GB RAM for faster performance.

We are actively busy behind the scenes to improve URPad’s service and we have received positive feedback from our clients so far.

Please let us know if you have any questions at any time.

      Best,
      Kevin

It now says $3.95 for 256M. Does the new data center also prohibit IRC?

        Hi Paul;
At the moment, we are not allowing IRC at all because it attracts DDoS attacks. This is to protect our clients and ourselves from service interruption.
