LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
ToS seems to be available only in Vietnamese
The TOS is just about hosting, billing… definition :D
Sure, but still… It would be nice to know what you are accepting when buying their service :)
If you can’t understand Vietnamese on our TOS, please contact to us, we will answer all your questions: https://appvz.com/contact.php
And for some reason, Google Translate won’t touch it. Weird….
If you copy/paste the text to Google Translate, it translates perfectly.
Interesting points:
When customers register domain names in AppVZ.com, consumers would understand that AppVZ.com agent provides domain name registration of a formal, legally, so all domain names are the property of AppVZ <- WTF? Probably something lost in translation?
They also guarantee 99.9% uptime, but will compensate only if the downtime exceeds 1%. Basically, it's 99% then?
Everything else is pretty much standard I suppose …
No copy and paste on a locked down terminal.
I’ve seen providers who retain all rights to domains that they register for their clients. Usually we see it when the customer is moaning somewhere because they left that provider and are trying to transfer the domain and the former provider won’t allow it.
@vedran: That’s correct! :D That mean they have all right to sell or extend the domain if it expires :D
Test IP and IPv6, please?
Tun/tap is avalible?
Test IP is mentioned in the post :D
Düsseldorf: 81.30.145.161
Nuremberg: 188.40.68.114
You can test IPv6 by command:
Linux: ping6 -c 4 appvz.com
Windows: ping -6 appvz.com
Now, our site can connect by both IPv4 and IPv6
IPv6 VPS now available on Nuremberg with OpenVZ base, on future all VPS will be assigned a IPv6 address
Yes, Tun/tap is available
Any test files available?
New OS options: Windows 2008 R2 Web but it will need from 1GB RAM, Windows 2003 is only for 512MB RAM.
30JULY coupon is available for all VPS plans, not only 512MB plan
installing applications made load average up to 6-7? that’s weird
For simple applications, having a load of 6-7 while installing is definitely not normal, but it completely varies on what application your installing.
Best,
Kevin
Perhaps it’s bad I/O. Have you done a dd test?
Installing mysql using yum won’t take that high. And yes, it’s bad I/O, I’ve shut it down and asked for refund, but not being refunded yet
KVM CheapVPS-1
I’ll be switching providers shortly.
