LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

2gbvps.com - $7 2GB OpenVZ in France, Germany, UK & Dallas

2gbvps.com, a company specialising in the latest LowEndBox trend of 2GB virtual servers, recently got in touch with an offer for you.

AYVR 2GB

  • 2048MB RAM
  • 1 vCPU Core
  • 60GB Raid 10 Disk space
  • 1000GB Bandwidth
  • 1Gbps Port speed
  • 1 IPv4 Address
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM
  • $7.00 /month (€5)
  • Promotion Code: leb001
  • Order Link

2GBVPS are an Australian PTY LTD registered company (ACN 159 993 987). Whilst this is their first LowEndBox offer, they’re a 6 month old company and a part of the “allyourvps.com group”. They claim they don’t oversell and that all servers are under-provisioned by 2GB of ram (15x2GB on 32GB servers, 31x2GB on 64GB servers etc). I am a little sceptic though, as I don’t believe it would be economically viable. They are using Quad core “or better” CPUs on their servers such as the E3-1230v2, i7-2600 or E5-1620. Share your benchmarks and thoughts with us below!

2GBVPS accept payment via Paypal. They provide a “Fair use 7 day refund” basically they will refund you if you haven’t used all the bandwidth etc. I’ve had a quick look at their terms, basically don’t host anything illegal and don’t abuse the server or network. You may want to read their very short Terms of Service / Acceptable Usage Policy for yourself.

Looks like massive overselling to be 100% Honest.

    February 11, 2013 @ 3:44 pm | Reply
    • Your concerns are certainly merited, LEB has been full of those who do massively oversell. But as I’ve said, we don’t, and if there is a graph or command line printout that I can make available to prove it isn’t being oversold, I’d be happy to do that :)

      February 13, 2013 @ 12:14 am | Reply
  3. If they underprovision, then they’ll no doubt be comfortable with having publicly visible (Munin?) graphs showing their resource consumption across nodes. Right?

    February 11, 2013 @ 4:10 pm | Reply
    • Spencer:

Or why not KVM or Xen?

      February 11, 2013 @ 4:11 pm | Reply
    • You realise oversold nodes can easily be using less than half the resources right?

If someone has an idea of how to show how many VPS are on a server and therefore that they are under-provisioned, I’m all ears.

      February 11, 2013 @ 10:00 pm | Reply
      • I think it’s because the ad here says “no oversell”. What you’re referring to of free resources still is if it’s overloaded. It’s 2 totally different things.

        February 12, 2013 @ 1:50 am | Reply
        • Sorry don’t quite understand you, I’m saying I don’t see how showing a munin graph would prove anything as the RAM could quite possibly be 100% used with only 2 VPS on the server, or only half used with 200 VPS.

Anyway, if someone makes a cogent request, I’ll try implement it.

Zahra said “They claim they don’t oversell and that all servers are under-provisioned by 2GB of ram…I don’t believe it would be economically viable”

Hetzner EX4S i7-2600 50 euros/$65 (excl. VAT). Add 12.50 euros (excl VAT) for a flexpack, the cost of the IPs, the cost of the 3rd and 4th HDs and raid controller if they really are using a Raid 10 setup rather than the stock 2 disk Raid 1 and…you’re right it’s not even close to being economically viable to only put 15 VPS’s on a 32GB server at Hetzner in Germany, or OVH in France…and it’s even less viable at Redstation in the UK.

    “60GB Raid 10 Disk space”

They posted an offer on WHT last month (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1225076) that claimed “60GB Raid 10 Disk Space” and in the description it said “2x1TB RAID10 SATA3”. How is it possible to offer Raid 10 if you’re only using 2 hard drives?

“You may want to read their very short Terms of Service / Acceptable Usage Policy”

    That’s the shortest TOS/AUS I’ve ever seen.

    • MonsteR:

So its clear there lying about the Raid 10 then obviously if they haven’t figured Raid10 require’s 4 Drives minimum.

      February 11, 2013 @ 5:09 pm | Reply
      • RAID10 doesn’t require 4 drives in “near-far” configuration.

        February 11, 2013 @ 10:03 pm | Reply
    • Leave the economic viability to us, suffice to say this LEB (and the previous WHT offer) is only to get the brand out there and fill currently mostly empty servers (which make us 0 money by the way).

This offer is not our normal price, and I think you’ll find the normal 10euro/month is in fact viable for a small company.

We aren’t another ChicagoVPS, we have a very specific market in mind, and we think we’ll have enough of a loyal customerbase to grow to a sustainable size, but we’ll never have thousands of customers (well maybe we will, but we don’t aim to become that over night).

Once people see we keep to our word about under-provisioning, we’ll stop doing the discounts and people can pay the full economic price, which will easily make us profitable :)

  9. Hi,
I think non-overselling policy can be accepted if they own their hardware and co-locate with a DataCenter. Although, on OpenVZ platform, overselling is a general platform. Let’s see the benchmarks who have already purchased !

    February 12, 2013 @ 8:59 am | Reply
    • Benchmarks on the 1st day of release are hardly going to be spectacular with everyone running hours of dd tests, but if you all want to load up minecraft or something and hog all the 2GB ram I think you’ll find the servers cope perfectly fine :)

        • That is 75MB/s under load from benchmarking, so it will probably be 100MB/s+ normally.

And I’d love to know what sort of programs need 100MB/s on a 2GB 10euro/month VPS.

    • Thanks but that isn’t really necessary and as it isn’t actually being hosted by a reputable uptime monitor I’d prefer you removed those links if you can as it is misleading.

The response time for example is extremely high for some reason. The monitor site seems to be on a NL VPS, so those response times should be about 40ms at most. As is the responsiveness (is that just a ping dropped ratio?).

It isn’t just 2gbvps.com either, the checks page shows extremely high ping times to just about every host,

I bought a server from your Dallas location, however I gotta know something. This 6 dollar rate, is it introductory, or do I get to keep it as long as I continue my subscription?

All and all, I would say that a lot of these comments deterred me at first but your perservearance in responding to them and backing up your company is what convinced me.

Additionally, you people need to quit being all talk. I have tested this guys VPS services and so far I am pleased. Performance hasn’t been an issue yet, I will definitely post something if I am wronged but for real. You can’t base EVERYTHING off of speculation. Sometimes you just have to put your trust into something, and at 6 dollars I would think that is enough.

        February 14, 2013 @ 3:09 pm | Reply
        • Hi, this coupon last forever for that subscription yes.

Thanks for your realisation that we do appear dodgy to begin with, and as I said, I’m not here to make money yet, I’m here to build trust and then people will be willing to pay us a price that does make us money.

I understand the talk, I’d be the same about buyvm or chicagovps, i don’t understand how either of them make money, but I realise that most people who sign up don’t use their resources, so that is how every VPS company makes money, by overselling heaps. We will be different, we will charge more, but not oversell.

No, that would be against the terms of LEB.

If we don’t succeed as we hope over the next couple months then there might be a point in May where we decide that we cannot turn a profit and therefore have to evaluate whether we continue doing business or raise the prices, but I don’t see that happening :)

As I’ve said, we’re here to build a solid brand and to that end we’re willing to losslead on the initial supporters :)

    • Hi, I can create a special discount for you, just order all 4 but don’t pay the invoice, I will then apply the discount if you make a ticket.

I’d like to do another offer soon, just have to wait for April Fools to pass.

Also I cannot guarantee LEB will post it, but I am waiting for a couple other sites to post.

    • Hi, they are, you need to download a much larger file than 10MB to see Gbps speeds, 10MB is hardly long enough for TCP window to increase.

Anyway, how have you tested all locations, I do not see any account with more than 3 VPS except for someone with 7 who was using stolen paypal accounts, who I suspended around the 26th, was that you?

      Hi,

Giving the one in Germany a try for a month. Thanks for renewing the deal. Also thanks for offering a return policy and an easy to read and understand ToS/AUP.

      April 12, 2013 @ 11:49 am | Reply
      • Hi ClownJugglar,

Cheers no worries we realised that the price point we were aiming for and the RAM guarantee was just not practical, nor really needed.

As for the TOS etc, yes, that was the idea. So sick of 10 page copy-paste-substitute-name ones that allow the provider to get away with anything if they want to. That isn’t to say we still can’t get away with anything, but if we do it’d be completely in the face of the ToS/AUP. This way, we tell it like it is, people hopefully get it as it is, and we avoid any nonsense.

Just so everyone knows, we’ve not had a single request for refund that we haven’t granted, and the couple we refunded, the reasons were “didn’t realise it was OpenVZ, needed KVM” and “bad ping to my ISP”. With over 200 orders I feel that is a pretty decent retention rate for nigh on 2 months now :)

        Enjoy your weekend all!

  37. Hi all,

We’re changing our policy on not overselling due to the lack of response in the market. However, we are still sticking to a strict overselling policy of 100%. That is, you will always have 1GB ram available, burstable to 2GB.

We can’t reveal exact stats but suffice to say 2 nodes that are at 100% are still only using about 20% of the ram, and have been for the past month, so we feel this update in policy is a Good Thing ™. It will enable us to actually make a small amount of money on the servers (at the moment with 90%+ using the coupons we’re not breaking even), as well as still provide a consistently good service at a lower price point than otherwise.

We’d like to be able to stick to the no overselling, and as such we will be bringing in KVM/Xen in the next month to cater for that.

If you have any questions please do make a ticket or enquiry, we’ll be more than happy to assist!

    April 12, 2013 @ 11:27 am | Reply
    • Oh and there won’t be any degradation in service, the general consensus amongst some other providers I talked to about this is that the 20% current RAM usage for a full node (and barely 5% disk IO, 3% network traffic, 15% cpu), will at most rise to 40% of max, leaving more than enough room and performance on demand.

Having said that, we aren’t trying to pull a fast one here so anyone with at least 14 days left in their renewal is entitled to a full refund if they wish, just open a ticket :)

  38. Fusey:

I’ve been using the UK VPS for a few months now and I have to say I’ve had no issues at all. I’ve had no downtime and the server has been fast and reliable at all times.

    Thanks!

    Fusey

    April 12, 2013 @ 11:46 am | Reply
    • Thanks Fusey, I’m glad the service has been great for you :)

We’ve had a couple replies to this announcement, both positive, both asking that if we need more money to keep the service alive they will pay, so I can’t think of any better endorsement for what we’re doing than that :)

So just to sum up, the service quality will be just as good, all we’re doing is reducing some of the massive free resources to fit more customers and maintain this low level pricing at the same time :)

  39. We decided to open up quarterly payments due to request, previously we didn’t want to do this due to our un-proven track record. Now that we have some, I feel we can accept the commitment to provide services for 3 months :)

Oh and added more Germany stock.

  53. I don’t how people can think by paying a very low price to get a high quality service , it’s just ridiculous … When we’re talking about HQ VPS, we must consider the service, the maintenance, the configuration specs and more , and not just the price as some websites do ( e.g Hostirama http://goo.gl/tzp8xT ) . I prefer to pay for a reliable and decent service, no matter what the price is .

After 3 years of a happy customer, this Provider will close its doors on 30 June 2018.

I was very very happy with them. I had 2 Servers there (2GB RAM, 160GB HDD) 1TB bandwith and paid 50€ / Year for each.

Anyone has a simular provider with such price? (Europe Datacenter)
