2HOST – $59.88/Year 512MB Xen VPS

Tags: , , Date/Time: February 18, 2010 @ 12:28 am, by LowEndAdmin

2HOST As I have stated in my 2009 best experience post, 2HOST was a surprising winner from their previous 5 bucks Xen offer. They have now advertised their new specials on WHT again — a similar package for 1 cent less at $4.99/month as it has been pointed out that it’s $59.88/Year when you go to the package page, which works out to be $4.99/month. You get

  • 512MB memory/1024MB swap
  • 5GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • Xen/SolusVM

My previous VPS with them was in St. Louis MO so I assume their new packages are in the same location as well. Their disk space is a bit lacking but I guess it’s due to the use of 15k RPM SAS drives.

The original owner of LowEndBox known as "LowEndAdmin" or "LEA" for short founded LowEndBox in 2008 and created the concept of hosting applications on low resource "Low End Boxes". After creating the roots of the community that we know today, "LEA" stepped aside and allowed others to carry the torch forward.

  1. The special offer is only available in Asheville.

Very nice deal but I NEVER pay for hosting a year in advance (which you need to do in order to get that price).

    My first impressions

Pros: fast server, fast network, relatively small templates
Cons: Connection to SolusVM is unencrypted, support tickets are left unanswered for more than 48 hours (I have lodged two simple questions/tasks (1) SSL-encrypted connection to SolusVM, (2) rDNS for my IP), lack of several important modules — running APF firewall is impossible.

I also believe that the specifications are out of date.

They state the following on the ORDER page:

    #0 512MB XEN VPS Special – 24/7 INSTANT ACTIVATION
    512MB Dedicated RAM
    5,000MB Dedicated HDD
    VPS Management Panel
    1,000GB Bandwidth

They seem to have doubled the Traffic.

Thanks, Johan. SSL-encrypted SolusVM has been enabled. Also, APF is possible after some minor changes.
