Andrew from 5ite has emailed me a LowEndBox exclusive offer. Same price as their summer special — $5.57/month for “VZ-1” plan, but (1) promo code is no longer needed (2) you get 384MB guaranteed memory rather than 256MB. Here is the sign up link to that exclusive offer, and you get
- 384MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
- 30GB storage
- 3TB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
You can choose between Falkstein Germany or Chicago USA on the sign up form. Supports PayPal, 2Checkout, Google Checkout, Liberty Reserve, AlertPay and Moneybookers. 5ite.com was launched in 2007 as shared hosting provider but is now also providing both unmanaged and managed VPS hosting.

I always did like the name. :)
I’m torn on the ToS. While they get a huge +1 for making the difference of what’s allowed on shared and what’s allow on VPSes, there’s a couple of small concerns. Mostly nitpicking.
There’s a few typos. Like “netowrk”
They use a non correct email address for reporting abuse. RFC 2142 says it’s supposed to be abuse@ while they use abusereport@. Not sure if abuse@ forwards or not as I’m not in a position to check.
They also appear to automatically assume that all abuse is spam abuse. While they do list that server abuse is not allowed, there’s no instructions on how to report it like they do for email abuse.
I do like how they spell out what “fully managed” means. That and the overage fees. Darn cheap overage fees as well although I have to wonder how one goes over in memory. Aren’t you locked in as to what you can use?
Any use of a promotional code during your order waves your option of getting a refund. That’s not a negative nor is the $4 per support ticket fee if you do request a refund. Just pointing that out.
I like the idea of charging for support time in the event of a refund being requested, but unfortunately it’s illegal if the refund is given under DSR.
This is not correct. As long as it is stated in the terms and conditions (which it is), the caveat you mentioned is perfectly legal.
@drmike
Thanks for taking the time to analyse our ToS :)
abuse@5ite.com is monitored we just prefer people to use abusereport@5ite.com as it feeds into our ticketing system, we don’t just ignore mail sent to abuse@5ite.com
All types of abuse can we sent to abusereport@5ite.com we just refer to one specific instance of abuse as an example in the ToS.
The “netowork” typos has been corrected also :)
3TB transfer in Germany, which datacenter? (and test IP?)
178.63.57.91
Hetzner for the German VPS node.
Could not ping the mentioned IP
Yes… unfortunately someone doing excavation work around our German data center thought it would be a great idea to cut through one of the optical fiber backbones! That’s the reason for being unable to ping. Service to that IP is intermittent at the moment. The data center are advising it should be resolved very soon.
Client system down. Wanting to signup :(
Our ordering system is now open again for new orders :)
