LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
I got a win vps in atelra.com 2 months ago, factly the price of their vps is low enough, but their servers sometimes down (1-2 times per week)… If atelra can make their server more stable and guarantee the uptime, their service is valuable.
Lookie, the State of Colorado has a Kids’ page. ;)
In case anyone wants to do a lookup, http://www.sos.state.co.us/biz/BusinessEntityCriteriaExt.do and enter 20081258904 into the second field, the ID one. Comes right up but not with a link that others can use.
The address listed appears to be a home address in a rather nice neighborhood.
I don’t experince same issue as zenglilium, however I am hosted on their linux server. It’s not bad at all.
@zenglilium, you don’t mention how long their servers are down for. Once or twice a week for a few minutes may be within their allowed downtime.
I’ve had a Windows VPS in Atelra since March 2010. It’s definitely not a good service. The server restarts at least once every day most of the days. And there are some periods in which the server is down for a couple of hours every single day. There are some periods in which the server is up for many days without interruption, but that’s very uncommon.
Server bandwidth is not something out of this world, but I guess it’s decent (I don’t have numbers right now, sorry).
They always answer my support tickets complaining about the server being down, but they usually take some time, generally some hours or a day.
Currently my server is down, and has been down for over 48 hours. I’m sure there has been some sort of important issue because something like this has never happened before. And still no news about what happened.
Basically Atelra low-end VPS is an unreliable service you may want to get if you can live with having the server down some moments every day most of the days, never knowing exactly when that will be.
This vps container is dead, and never trust their service and promise.
Anyone still with them? They are currently having a 70%-off-everything which makes the deal very attractive…
