LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

BandwagonHost - $1.99/Month 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Phoenix

Daniel, from BandwagonHost, has sent in his first ever offer for the LowEndBox community.

Basic VPS 5G

  • 512MB RAM
  • 512MB vSwap
  • 1 vCPU Core
  • 5GB Raid 10 Diskspace
  • 500GB Bandwidth
  • 1 Gigabit Port
  • 1 IPv4 address
  • OpenVZ/KiwiVM
  • $1.99/Month or $9.99/Year
  • Coupon: LEB | Order Link

Although BandwagonHost is a fairly new service, Daniel has informed us that they were previously known as “eomy.net”. Since then they have been in business for 9 years and are a registered Canadian corporation. They have developed their own VPS control panel (KiwiVM) and all VPS node management software is also developed in-house. Their servers have the Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz, 48 GB ECC RAM and 4x ST3600057SS hard drives in RAID-10. If you sign up, please do let us know how the server performs!

BandwagonHost accepts payments only via PayPal for now. They provide a full 30 day no questions asked money back guarantee. Unfortunately they do not currently have a website, just the ordering system. Their TOS states that spamming, hacking, malware, IRC, open proxies, adult content is not allowed however VPN or proxy is fine as long as they are password protected.

Network Information:

Servers are with IT7 Networks Inc in Phoenix, Arizona.

And also this is another brand of VPSBlast?

    • Dan:

VPS Blast is our brand too. IT7 Networks Inc is the company behind these brands. In the past we were concentrated solely on the Eastern European market. VPS Blast and Bandwagon Host projects are rather new, however, we’ve been doing this since 2004, so we have quite a bit of experience.

KiwiVM is indeed the control panel we use, it was developed by us from scratch back when SolusVM did not exist yet :)

PayPal said it was IT7 networks. I assume that is who is behind the operation rather than who hosts the servers, as I personally thought was implied in the post. No worries, just a note for anyone reading.

  5. No SSL on your order form or your ‘secure’ client login? Come on…

    April 16, 2013 @ 3:50 pm | Reply
    • Dan:

Very few people actually care about it. We did all kinds of experiments on our websites throughout the years, and SSL is one of those things that does not actually impact the number of new orders received.

What seems to (negatively) impact new orders is an expired SSL certificate :-)

      April 16, 2013 @ 4:08 pm | Reply
      • You are trying to justify not having an SSL on the basis of usability? And you have trouble keeping an SSL certificate up to date? (an annual task)

        April 16, 2013 @ 4:17 pm | Reply
        • Thank you for educating me about SSL… There are many things that make webhosting provider a successful one, and having an SSL certificate is not very high on that list. That is what I am trying to say.

        • What does it matter whether they have SSL or not, as long as you’re actually paying through Paypal, and the latter are the only people privy to your financial details? If they were directly asking for credit card information, I might be worried.

Here’s why it matters: Login encryption. I can’t login to your website on public wifi unless I’m stupid, which you can be sure most people are. By logging into WHMCS, I can log into my VPS control panel and from there I have no limitations as to what I can do to my VPS.

          April 16, 2013 @ 5:48 pm | Reply
        • That’s true. I’ve never used the vps control options from whcms and had forgotten about them.

        April 16, 2013 @ 5:56 pm | Reply
        • This may look stupid to you, but we prefer to concentrate on what is actually important. SSL does not help to stay in business. SSL does not help delivering good service. SSL does not help keep servers running with minimal downtime.

If you feel better using a web host with an SSL cert I have no problem with that at all. It does not make my reply stupid though.

          April 16, 2013 @ 6:36 pm | Reply
        • Charlie:

So, delivering the services to the end user in a safe and secure manner is not important to you? I think you are underestimating your customers and assuming they are idiots. If encryption does not help your servers running with minimal downtime, perhaps you should replace SSH with Telnet ;)

If you believe the only reason to set up SSL is to “increase sales”, rather than something as basic and vital as keeping your customers safe… you do not deserve to be in business.

        • jarland:

Why is your only concern increasing sales? None for client safety? You don’t care if our passwords pass in plain text from point to point? Sales is the only potential concern? Can’t waste $15/year caring about your clients? Maybe I’ll ask for that refund on principle.

*Owner doesnt think SSL are important, only implemented them because of all the complaining in here
*Said he contacted maxmind about why HIS ips for HIS VPS are gelocated to canada. IDK maybe because that is what the WHOIS info says – http://bgp.he.net/AS25820#_whois
*Was running their website on a cpanel node with a shared IP, wasnt even dedicated until they needed the SSL
*Removed the word secure from their WHMCS because you know without the SSL it isnt secure

    • Hi,

      Addressing your points:

      1) Not because of complaining, but because jarland mentioned a valid point about logging in from a public place.
      2) Whois has little to do with GeoIP location, but I can understand why Maxmind would default it to the whois data – the IP subnet we are currently using is rather fresh.
      3) Why exactly having a shared IP for main website is a bad thing?
      4) What would be a better way to address that?

      Thanks

    • OpenVZ kernel does not show you the speed of the actual core “assigned” to your VPS (basically because there is no firm relationship between a VPS and specific cores). What you are seeing is the speed of “one of the cores”. Try running a benchmark and you will see that the full CPU speed is available when needed.

I didn’t do actual speed tests in order to record the numbers, just dl’d some rpms and dl speeds was was impressed. I ended up cancelling soon afterwards, not because of anything necessarily bad, but it ended up not fitting my particular need that I had. Got a reply from Dan shortly after submitting the cancellation ticket and got a refund. So I give this provider a big thumbs up and would not hesitate to buy services from again with on of their bigger/beefier plans.

You would probably have exploded if that link was active, right? Beware – lowendbox.com also shows banners and they are active (not commented out!). OMG SCAM!!!11

Sorry, can’t stop enjoying this. Just wondering how far can this nonsense go.

On a serious note, we were displaying their banner back in 2009, but then commented it out when the agreement was over. Now I have removed it because you created a whole scam story out of a commented out banner… Congratulations, you have achieved something in your life.

        • Wait, I have just realized that you actually have a VPS with us (no conspiracy – it is in the screenshot). Why exactly are you not asking for a refund? I do not understand the logic.

Dan, I believe his accusation was that the code was stolen and you just commented out their code. Although this particular code does not necessarily imply it, in my opinion. I saved a copy after the accusation, in case it actually did mean something, as LowEndBox has always been known to attract liars and scammers. But… nothing negative actually there from my point of view.

  33. Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you
know a few of the pictures aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue.
I’ve tried it in two different web browsers and both show the same outcome.
