Feathur is an Open Source (AGPL V3.0) control panel for OpenVZ and KVM and is available on GitHub. BlueVM Communications LLC are based in Honolulu and are dedicated to offering “low cost, high quality Virtual Private Servers (VPS)”. We have featured BlueVM quite some times since early 2012 and reviews have been mainly positive. After they had enough of SolusVM after numerous security incidents, BlueVM decided to write their own panel. Feathur is the result of that. It’s already in use at BlueVM (and has been for a while) but it is also available to the public and I believe other providers have started using it as well. Their hardware primarily consists of Intel E3-1240 servers (@ 3.4GHz) with 32 GB of RAM and 4 x 1TB or 2TB hard drives in RAID10. A review of their service (which includes Feathur screenshots & serverbear link) can be found here.

BlueVM accept PayPal, Google Checkout and Bitcoin via Bitpay. Due to abuse of their previous refund policy, they no longer offer refunds on their services except in special cases. They provide a 99.99% uptime guarantee and provide service credits if they fail to meet this. According to their website, they undersell (typically they leave 500GB of HDD space free and 2-4GB of ram free). For more information, have a read of their Terms of Service.

Cheap, but my experience isn’t good. Slow support, even up to 2 days for answer, not good uptime and easy user’s VPS stopping.

            “We are improving our service.”

You have come to the comment section for all of your latest deal postings and continuously claim this. Meanwhile, service is not improving. Support is a joke! It takes two days to get a reply from the lowest tier of support who, unsurprisingly, either don’t know how or are incapable of actually fixing anything. Then when it actually gets forwarded to higher tiers of support you need to way another two days at least, and sometimes as long as a week.

You’ve done a lot wrong, and you need to do so much more to actually improve service. I haven’t seen any of it happen, and am tired of you claiming so.

    Never again BlueVM.
Support is hardly available and only pass on. No one is responsible.
Node is more offline than online or unreachable.
    Overselling at its finest!
Money which they collect, keep and not pay it out. Credit to BlueVM stops and then the money has finally gone.

Why are you including a link to a review of their service from October 2013 and completely ignoring all of the negative reviews in recent months when you are completely aware that the majority of recent reviews have been negative ? More than a little dishonest of you Maarten, but I guess ethics don’t come into play for some blog writers and they’ll write anything for a buck.

Can you explain this a bit, for those of us out of the loop?

Is this implying that you do hide the fact that a provider has received overwhelmingly negative reviews in the last year in order to “sell the deal” and get whatever kickbacks are associated with a LEB posting?

Or are you saying that Todd is off base and confused? Because it kind of feels like the first option to me.

        Thanks!

I wrote a poem about BlueVM, I thought you might like to hear it.

    BlueVM, oh BlueVM,
I’d never host with you again,
Support so slow, it’s really poor,
It had me headed for the door.
Service up and down, and down and up
Like my dinner after two girls, one cup,
So help yourself and please be smart,
With your cash please do not part,
Or you’ll be saying once again,
“Why on earth did I chose BlueVM?”

I am sorry, but I strongly disagree with the summary at the top that says, “We have featured BlueVM quite some times since early 2012 and reviews have been mainly positive.” I do not understand how anyone could possibly reach that conclusion. The overwhelming majority of posts regarding BlueVM have been negative. Most of them have been complaints regarding complete loss of service for long periods of time (days, weeks), and lack of response to support tickets. Search on WebHostingTalk and LowEndTalk. Buyer beware!

I am a user of BlueVM (BLUE2 – Atlanta, Georgia) for eight months. Good service. Uptime +99%. This running apache server (with ssl).

    Support:

//Ticket #433485: DDos server down “Should be fixed, it was a DoS.”. I was solved within hours.
//Ticket #296191: There was a suspension, but to be clarified in a few hours is back online. (IPConfig (SMTP) problem (do not send any email) solved reinstalling).
//They respond quickly 12/24 hs. or less.

I had around four VPS with them. On two occasions I asked you move to another node (slow SSH connection). I have also had problems connecting SSH, but with a ticket has been resolved. To have a web server that does not consume a lot memory I think it’s fine! :)
When the site was down the problem with the dns / Namecheap. (they refunded the money for the month ($2,25(*)). That is honest. Thank you.).
Thank you very much for your services.

No duh. It’s down again today. I put in a support ticket but I went ahead and bought a box at Crissic, I won’t be renewing my box with BlueVM when it runs out in December. I thought it was a good deal at $50 a year and for most of this year it did run well, although it went down more than it should, but this past month is unacceptable to me.

Not to dog-pile, but this host is complete trash. VPS is down all the time (it’s been down all day, most of yesterday, etc).

Their support is directed to an IRC channel full of smug ops who decide who gets helped seemingly at random. They’re also fond of telling you the IRC channel isn’t for support, so it’s pretty much useless.

Tickets go unanswered while your VPS is down. If that sounds like your cup of tea, go ahead and throw your money in this soon-to-be-deadpooled provider.

As a follow-up: VPS still down, ticket still unanswered. Since he’s so fond of saying how much they’ve changed, I emailed “admin@bluevm.com” yesterday and haven’t received a response to that either.

Needless to say, this host is on the “do not recommend” list.

Listen to this man. The IRC is a joke. They love to say it’s for “community support”, but the community can rarely provide any support. Instead, you get to watch a bunch of regulars try their best to increase the amount of hot air in the room. Any actual questions gets met with “make a ticket”, and then tickets go without response for days even when BlueVM staff dick around in the IRC.

    Worst VPS I’ve ever used.

From the beginning, the server’s network was horribly slow, with over 500ms pings. After a couple days of use, my server experienced 15+ hours of complete downtime.

I submitted my first ticket when I first started experiencing the ping issue. It’s been a week with no response. I also submitted a ticket when it went down, and 4 days later, still no response either.

The server seems to be back up, but it is still horribly slow, to the point it is basically unusable.

I am staying with them due to low yearly cost and US based IP.

I have been using BlueVM for just over a year now, having just renewed for my second Year.

I have a Blue2 and a Blue3 and can honestly say i am Very happy with the service. I have only had to open two tickets in this time. Both were answered and resolved within 24 hours. My service was only interrupted once and this was quickly resolved. Uptime has been no issue for me.

The new feathur Control panel makes managing and viewing my usage really easy.

I cant speak for the issues anyone else has had but I will continue to use them and am even considering a Blue4 as soon as more become availiable

i work with service providers all the time. bluevm must be serious amateurs to be left in the dark for two weeks. methinks it’s a bluevm problem, not a third party/service provider.

We must have lost our VMs at the same time. I haven’t *noticed* much downtime in the past (I only login once a week or so), and the responses to tickets have been relatively fast- even my questions about this outage. I wouldn’t have minded a day or two, but more than two weeks, that’s obviously a deal breaker. Need to look for another deal, maybe pay a bit more.

I put in a ticket to asked when it was going to be fixed because its been 2-3 weeks now and I pretty much had support telling me that it was my fault that my IP couldn’t connect to my VPS even though they acknowledge that they are having issues routing IP’s. Rebooting doesn’t help, so the only thing left is the provider. Fix your customer problems or they go elsewhere. I cannot restart the vps , or shut it down.
