LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

BreezeHost - $2.98 256MB OpenVZ VPS

Update July 2010 — IP is not resolving since 25 June, and looks like it is doing a runner.

Updated September 2010 — owner of BreezeHost emailed me to request the above comment to be removed. They have been taken over by InoxHost and the business resumes. We’ll see.

BreezeHost Via this WHT offer. BreezeHost looks like an interesting new provider on the block. From WHOIS the registrant is from UK. Business started a year ago, and now they are running a promotion with 50% off recurring discount. Using coupon code thebig10 you can now get its “ClixPro-1” Fully Managed VPS package for $2.98/month.

  • 256MB memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Their website is hosted at SingleHop in Chicago. 3 bucks for a fully managed VPS is pretty impressive and you also get “ClixCP Control Panel” for free (whatever that is) and free SSL certificate. A lot of promises — we’ll see whether it delivers. Owner seems to be in the website business.

i ordered clixpro-1. but waiting for my new VPS info.

too good to be true. i don’t really expect to get managed service, or even *wildcard* SSL.but i do hope it’s true.

i will update the info when i get my vps.

No the site was not down, just I think he forgot to auto boot the containers. His main site is also hosted on the same node as mine.

The solusvm panel is working anyway and I just have to manually reboot my container.

After I had a “talk” with their “Server Administrator” I now just hope he is not! Otherwise we are all screwed lol He has no idea about anything (well maybe about some things, but I highly doubt he is able to run servers in a way they should)

So basically: Don’t expect anything, really and especially no support, it’s a lost bet right from the start..

((sad though, but then, it was expected wasn’t it))

    everything is working NOT..

well for the starters.. i have signed up… and paid (Ofcourse) then i get this lame email saying.. thank you very much paying but where the hell is the basic info?? like the link to the control panel? or the vps ip address for me to install stuff??

so i had to open ticket for that.. then they let me know what the ip..it works for an hour before that goes offline.. then i raise another ticket to see whats going on.

http://clix.breezehost.net:5353/home.php – found this on this page.. so i logged in.. no vps on my account now.. which is dum.. i have sent them another email saying whats going on. they might be replying to it in a few days..

i have a feeling that it might take a month for them to send the me basic info with the emails going back and forth then they are gona close down?

The comments are interesting to say the least.
I ordered and had an IP address and setup within a couple hours. I didn’t get the second IP address that was promised as part of the plan, but I put in a low priority ticket for that.

I was able to log in, did a few installs and updates, ran some downloads from the CL and really haven’t had an issue with the install yet.
While I won’t be moving any mission critical apps to this server anytime soon, I find it despairing that there is such a range of experiences here.

@fatku, thanks for posting those numbers, although they may not have much meaning to people without any reference values (eg. a similarly spec’ed VPS) or a placement of value (eg. higher is better, lower is better etc). They don’t look good on the surface.

At the end of the day, I hope no one jumped on this deal with hopes of salvation. It really did look too good to be true.

something that was clarified over on WTH was the fact that the subject called for a free cpanel, which was the control panel, not cPanel/WHM. He clarified that he was saving space and not trying to pull a fast one(dubious). cPanel licensing is a fairly standard $10 per month.

This is a quote from WHT submitted in the topic that started this thread.
    —-
    “Managed” VPS:
We provide installation of the OS and control panel, as well as for a variety of other commonly used hosting software packages. Additionally, we provide proactive security updates to ensure your server is always secure.

All users must wait 1-2days before VPS setup, we are going to get a full fraud protection and re-run all orders through it as well as ordering more ips
    —-

Also, I got a reply back that they won’t be giving out 2 IP’s because of some DC limitations.
    Here is the BreezeHost reply

    —-
You will have to order one for $2/mo for another IP, i’ve reported my post for it to be changed but still not happened since our DC has limited us on how many ips we can get a month.

  21. Any legit provider does not have trouble getting IPs (or so I’ve heard). Sounds like an excuse to me. Also cp saves more room than cpanel so if he was really trying to save space I don’t see why he wouldn’t use cp instead.

    March 20, 2010 @ 8:34 am | Reply
  24. Brian:

@John, Curiosity :) It’s just not that big of a loss to try out the new guys at this cost.

My opinion though, this is just good intentions gone awry. If you look beyond the surface, this guy wasn’t looking to get rich ripping people off. At most he was getting 2.50 – 5.00 from a few people, most without automatic recurring billing. For that, they have buried themselves in technical problems, and already have an investment in equipment that supersedes the payments received on this special.

I think someone did some math on paper, and didn’t account for everything, thought they could challenge the VPS market with a good deal, and then found out they were over their heads. Now they are just trying to swim back to the surface and get some air hoping they don’t loose every account they just got 2 days ago.

Don’t get me wrong, bad planning causes as many problems for customers as rip off schemes, I just don’t think this was the latter. Don’t quote me though. I’ve been wrong before :)

    Mudassir rissadum,
Agree with both comments, although I’m not sure what the intention is behind the names on the last two comments.

As a follow up, I was told by the admin via WTH forums that I should use the Non encrypted pages to login to my support and account information. (not to use the https:// pages)

In other words, I can access my account if I want to send my information unencrypted over the web, so I won’t even be giving this the second month if I can’t get a safe page to update my invoice.

As I’ve stated, It’s not a huge shock. When I commented similarly about the site being down on WHT, The admin snidely commented that I should submit a ticket… because they have only had 5 minutes downtime due to a reboot. (apparently that took my server down and I had to login insecurely to start it again.) No notification of a hardware reboot.

At any rate, the deal is gone now, so I doubt they will get many sign-ups, but I would strongly recommend other hosts. They don’t’ seem to have it together here at breezehost.

I probably won’t give any more updates to this situation, it’s fairly clear now.

    Brian
