Cripperz Prodigy - $15/Year (+$1 Setup) 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Kansas City

Updated February 2012: Cripperz Prodigy website has been showing 500 Internal Error for 2 weeks. Many have reported their VPS dead. I don’t think they are still in operation.

Cripperz Cripperz Prodigy is another company attempting the “$15/year” VPS plan with their limited offer posted here on WHT. Use this sign up link + promo code WHT062011 to get the following VPS for $15/year + $1 once off setup fee.

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 300GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers with DataShack/Wholesale Internet in Kansas City MO (test IP: 204.12.241.212). Cripperz Prodigy is registered in the very fine city, i.e. Singapore, and they have been around since 1998. Domain registered since 2006. From their home page they seem to be doing everything IT related, from fixing computer problems to server colocation to website designs.

When you’re going to have a new node in KS?

      June 10, 2011 @ 5:24 am | Reply
      • @LEBLover,

We expand Nodes in conjuntion with our web design profile as well. At the rate if this keeps up, we might have extra Node in KS maybe in a month or two but no promises as we just got to ensure at least cost is covered for the Node. We are not worrying too much about large profit margins.

We still have Colorado node which barelly fills the node at the moment (Colorado only have per month billing clients / plans). We will always ensure there is extra Node around in an event one Nodes goes totally down due to hardware. Though we leave the backup responsibility to the vps owner as this is Unmanage service.

        June 11, 2011 @ 9:22 am | Reply
  14. Just a note,

we identify some loading issue on the current KS node. We are making new order to have a new node setup now. For those who ordered the per year plan featured, orders might be delayed for another 24hours until we have this new node up and running.

For those who ordered the 4.50/mth plans, the orders will still carry on as that is assigned for our Colorado node where we do not have any issues at the moment.

    Apologies for inconvenience caused.

  16. I just noticed something hilarious about this guys sales thread on WHT.

He’s using buyvm as a tag entry to try to draw people waiting on our services.

Come on, is it that hard to come up with your own ideas? :)

@Francisco – I think he look up to you as an idol big brother or an inspirer :)

@CP-Haas – Yo! Brother, you should ask Francisco’s permission before using that tag! It’s a trade mark ;)

      June 11, 2011 @ 11:14 am | Reply
      • Kinda like the guy that jacked our design? :)

Why in the world would I allow someone permission to literally use our company name in their tags list? I already reported it to WHT but we’ll see what happens, I don’t expect much.

        Francisco

        June 11, 2011 @ 11:16 am | Reply
        • He should have asked you to ask your permission to use your name in a more fashion way such as “inspired by the great BuyVM” :)

          June 11, 2011 @ 11:21 am | Reply
    • @Francisco,

Its marketing strategy where using tags is not limited. Such act is not unlawful. BuyVM is a very respectable VPS provider today, maybe i am just drawing their attention due to the same budget we are giving to the customers. We got ours to fill up therefore no harm drawing some attention.

End of the day, its up to the customers as they all know we are not BuyVM. You should be very proud, BuyVM is like an in-house brand of cheap and good vps provider thats why we are using that tag =P.

I am sorry but if it does offend you alot, i will try and remove the tag and never use it again.

      June 11, 2011 @ 11:15 am | Reply
      • It isn’t an ‘offense’ thing, just more of a ‘wtf?’ if that makes sense.

I’ve seen a good hand full of retarded things done by many people in the past couple weeks, some of them we had close business relationships only for them to turn around and try to run off with our ideas.

        Man, what a week.

      • How can you draw them in then fail to deliver though? I do not see the features of BuyVM, so how can you compair yourself? I see this as pure sleaze

      • Such act is not unlawful

Um, actually it’s very much illegal if Fran were to claim a trademark over the buyvm name. And considering that he uses it as a domain, he’s pretty much done so. It’s called the Lanham Act and it was upheld for online SEO in 2009 under the Rescuecom v. Google court case where Google was allowing other advertisers to use the Rescuecom trademarks as their own.

Be sure to read the whole thing as it was upheld upon appeal:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescuecom_Corp._v._Google_Inc.

        • dspace:

Yep, it’s only protected (ie, not illegal) if it’s political speech (criticism, satire, etc.). To use it commercially, for marketing or advertising, constitutes a trademark violation.

Just to be clear, i didnt use buyvm as a domain nor subdomain name. I used the word buyvm as tag because similar targeted audience in wht forun might search that for 15/year plans. And i promptly removed it after he express his dismay. I have no intentions to confuse buyvm customer. I was rather focus in the tags to use to get the right audience. I have already apologize and remove necessary tags. No damage was intended to buyvm either

          June 13, 2011 @ 7:53 am | Reply
        • Just to be clear, I don’t believe anyone here said anything about usage as a subdomain or domain. The referenced case is use as a tag and/or keyword.

I would strongly suggest that you ask LEA to remove your comments because 1) you’ve admitted publicly that you did in fact use the trademark, 2) did so in an attempt to target buyers in the same field and 3) was done intentionally as part of your “marketing strategy”. I’m not a lawyer either but I have been through a couple of trademark disputes and, well, I really think you shot yourself in the foot, especially by actually admitting what you did.

Although it does look like Fran is happy with the results. I just think you need to become more business aware in what you’re doing. Of course I think a lot of the providers here need to be more business aware.

yeah, i think i should have but i did not know who owned BuyVM. I am new to the VPS market and definitely i am not here to step onto anyone’s shoe. I do not want to make enemies with any providers. If my tag is deemed unethical, i will amend it. Like i said, my intention to draw customers of the same budget range. BuyVM is an in-house brand =). I myself respect them alot.

He reimaged my VPS with Ubuntu when I had trouble with CentOS 5, and even configured and tested OpenVPN for me. Performance of the VPS has been quite acceptable, keeping in mind that I am paying only $16 per year and I don’t expect the performance of a dedicated server.

Not a fly by night operation, and clued staff goes a long way toward good service. Highly recommended.

to those who sent ticket and got no respond, we had some issues where we are spammed with hundreds or even thousands of malicious tickets, now that has been fixed – 25 Oct 2011.

For the 9 users on colorado server, we discountinued from that location. However, you VPS can still be created in Kansas location for sure.

And just a last note, we do not have any Denver server with us. Just to be clear.
