Eleven2 - $6.25 512MB Xen VPS in Phoenix

Eleven2 Robert from Eleven 2 emailed me about their 50% off life time discount promotion for their “Cloud Servers”, i.e. OnApp based Xen VPS that’s “Socially Cool” (as stated on their website, “it sometimes attracts the ladies”). Promo code is cs10050off, and the plan starts at $6.25/month which comes with

  • 512MB memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 250GB/month data transfer
  • Xen/OnApp

Servers with PhoenixNAP in Phoenix AZ. From it’s About page, Eleven 2 was founded in 2003, with head quarter in Houston TX, and they “never sleep” (which might not always be a good thing when they deal with your support issues :). It’s an established company so you should be able to find their reviews all over the place.

  1. Really good price for the cloud server if it “real” cloud, no? Although there are lots of definitions on “cloud” though :)

    • That’s why I put their cloud servers inside a double quote. We all know it’s just Xen with OnApp, but I guess the business is free to call their product whatever they want.

BUT, be warned! They don’t offer free DNS / nameservers for the cloud servers your about to order. You’d have to get an additional IP (costs $2 each per month) for you to have your domains added onto your servers.

IDK about you but I’ve tried some of the VPS providers around LEB, and they do offer it, quite disappointing.

      • @Rg: Why don’t you use third-party for DNS delegation? HE.Net has a pretty good DNS service for free…

        • Rg:

I emailed them again, they seemed to fix the issue. They gave nameservers which I could use. :) I prefer the hosters DNS that’s why I opted to use it rather than my registrar’s DNS/nameserver free option..

Though something disappoints me regarding their service.. It’s the support. I’m quite new to their hosting environment and even their control panel is custom made. I’ve opened a support ticket but then they haven’t answered yet in the past 12 hours or so. Quite disappointing when all I asked are datacenter locations so I can ask for transfer as the ping time ranges around 300ms – 400ms from my place

I have a whm/cpanel reseller account with them on their UK server. Ordered a static IP 11 days ago. Still waiting. Had to chase them up as they didn’t update the ticket. Promises of ‘next 48 hrs’ ‘next 24 hrs’ nothing materialises. Online reviews seem mixed, from the insanely happy to the thoroughly pissed off

    • Our UK provider (100TB) was out of IPs. We have finally got them in as they were awaiting RIPE to get a direct allocation.

We are fine on the US side for IPs for quite some time, but are going to be tight in the UK for a while till we have IPv6 fully implemented.

Sorry there was not much we could do there to speed things up while waiting on our upstream provider.

  14. I remember watching a video on Youtube of Rodney – It was a few days or w.e after the explosion at the The Planet data centre. Rodney/Eleven2 had servers there. It was him and possibly a friend driving round in a BMW – and trying to get video footage of the explosion or the DC. He then drives away in his BMW at speed when they’re spotted by security.

Really not the kind of person to put your website with.

    • Just simply trying to get some facts when ThePlanet was not being transparent about their outage. We had a few monitoring servers with them and they could not update us with anything. Our offices were about 5 min from ThePlanet at the time.

  16. Just FYI for you guys (I tried this when they had their 1 cent offer). You don’t get access to OnApp at all. They give you access to the hostbill OnApp integration module.

    July 13, 2011 @ 2:36 am | Reply
    • Did they state any reason for that? I’m curious myself since I don’t think there is much of a difference between the integration module and OnApp control panel itself.

      Kevin

      • Currently there are no features not available in our VIP control panel that are available in Onapp, thus there is no reason for the Onapp panel.

Any and all of these issues have been fully resolved and our team is about 5x the size as it was back at that time. Our team is simply the best now and have learned quite a bit since those days.
