Matt from Kerplunc (who happens to also run SuperBytes and TinyVPS.ca) has recently a new VPS provider with servers in Germany, Fiber Firefly, and is giving an exclusive offer to Low End Box readers — $7/month VPS with the following specification:
- 256MB guaranteed memory
- 20GB storage
- 5Mbps unmetered bandwidth
- 2 IP addresses
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
All servers are Intel i7s with 12GB of RAM. VPS are all backed up nightly offsite. Servers are in Hetzner’s Datacenter Park in Germany. With SuperBytes and TinyVPS.ca, they would be very experienced in running budget VPS hosting provider.

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
Oh man, I’d grab this in an instant if only it were Xen or something.. I need to be able to make network interfaces
Xen is coming very very soon :)
I hope like hell IPs will have proper vlans, etc. I love Xen but it always annoys me when I can’t accurately use vnstat/ifstat/iftop/etc and see other’s traffic (and be able to sniff others’ traffic)
I have a very pleasant reaction and understanding at kerplunc hosting. Not only that they accepted my VPS which is running Tor http://torstatus.blutmagie.de/router_detail.php?FP=f5cfa4fc92dbc27289f102cba17886fb0a45d178
but also offered to help me with more memory and storage (not needed for a Tor router but the intention counts !). The VPS is responsive, uses loads of BW (about 750 GB a month from estimates right now) and all in all is a very nice surprise…
http://fiberfirefly.com/ I dont know if the offer to lowendbox readers is still on, but I got 20 GB storage, unmetered BW (lately throttled at 256 KB-more than what I hoped) 256 MB burstable 384 MB RAM and a good responsive VPS.
I dont know if the offer is still on, but all that for 7 bucks is a killer deal. There are cheaper, but not at this quality.
I’ve been Fiber Firefly’s customer since March 28th and I must say I’m more than satisfied with what I get and I also must say I wasn’t expecting this kind of service for such price. Stable and fast server and fast connection. I was using HostGator’s shared package for more than a year, and I was paying $9.99/mo but one of my websites grew too much for shared hosting, so I had to switch and Fiber Firefly was the bull’s eye hit.
Although support might sometimes seem slow (my longest reply took less than 20h to be answered), they know their job.
I would highly recommend this VPS hosting company as #1 in low end boxes.
Keep up the good work guys!
@Amir — thanks for your nomination :) Kerplunc might not be the cheapest but they do seem to provide pretty good service for VPS at the low end price range.
