    Is this AUP a joke?

    c) Run any type of interactive real-time chat applications that require server resources. Remotely-hosted services are fully allowed.
    d) Run stand-alone, unattended server-side processes at any point in time on the server. This includes any and all daemons.
    e) Run any software that interfaces with an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) network.
    f) Run any file sharing, bit torrent or other P2P network services, client or server software.

        • So what exactly is a server without the ability to run processes? Should one manually start apache without the use of a daemon or what? According to the apache 2.4 manual “On Unix, the httpd program is run as a daemon that executes continuously in the background to handle requests.”. So uh.. is someone supposed to serve the requests by hand? The language here is extremely vague and possibly erroneous.

          • That specifically relates to shared web hosting accounts, so if you’re running something that turns out to be a botnet controller or in fact anything which causes detriment to the other customers on the same shared server we reserve the right to ask you to stop, or to take action to stop it.

Dedicated servers are not subject to the same tight controls as you get the full resource of the machine not a fraction as you might get on traditional web hosting accounts.

Our basic moto towards AUP and TOS is “Lawful and Friendly” … It might be a bit naive in this day and age, but we still hope that there is some good in humanity … and that the few won’t spoil it for the many.
