LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

GarmanOnline - $2 80MB OpenVZ VPS Exclusive Offer

GarmanOnline Patrick from Garman Online sent me an email telling me that their now have a new website and a new ordering system. Certainly much slicker than the one before. Moreover, there are some special plans for LowEndBox readers.

Update: These are updated plans from Patrick’s comment here.

  • LEB 80 (Sign Up Link)
  • 80MB memory
  • 4GB storage
  • 40GB/month data transfer
  • $2/month (or $10/6 months)
  • LEB 256 (Sign Up Link)
  • 256MB memory
  • 14GB storage
  • 140GB/month data transfer
  • $4/month (or $20/6 months)

These are OpenVZ/SolusVM plans. Servers in Chicago. Bonus including nightly backups (although being on unmanaged service long enough should tell you to never trust someone else’s backups), free DNS (like these ones) and “unlimited SSL” (whatever that is). Their previous plan seems to be better value though although the updated offer still seems pretty good.

  2. $3,80MB,why not buy from ramhost.us ?

    • 1) Sold out
      2) Only 2GB disk space

But I agree that Ramhost is a lot more established, has burstable memory (very important for OpenVZ) and 1c/month cheaper :)

I have also been using Ramhost for about a year now and more than pleased with it. Uptime is simply amazing. I also used GarmanOnline’s VPS service last month and its also quite good for its price. Patrick is a very nice guy who is always willing to help.

  5. I’ve been quite a while with RamHost and I’ve only experienced planned down time so far, no shocking surprises. Furthermore, looking at their configuration, security is definitely their concern in order to protect data entrusted with them.

Upgrade and downgrade or even custom plan is possible with RamHost. Whether you only need a VLEB (Very Low End Box) for your DNS server or a “gigantic box” for your production server, they are quite helpful with what you need. The support team is not too talkative and they always reply in a brief answer as needed. They also have a forum with a growing community which is good to maintain a quite number of loyal customers.

However, we are not on RamHost turf now, it is GarmanOnline’s turf. Based on previous posts at LEB, there are many positive comments on GarmanOnline and it seems that Patrick Garman is very helpful towards his customers.

The abuse issue, I believe every VPS provider will try the best to secure their boxes. Nevertheless we have to remember that it is the VPSmaster’s responsibility to secure their own VPS environment. GarmanOnline actually offer a monthly based managed support service and it’s good for less experienced VPSmaster or webmasters who’s just migrating from a shared hosting to a VPS, so one might ask the support team to help them harden the VPS.

I hope GarmanOnline will have a profitable and sustainable business in the future.

  6. @Akash – Thanks for the comments! :) Glad you are happy
    @vRozenSch00n – Thanks!

We are currently in the process of bringing back the old plan, but for the price we need to add some more space. Tough world not overselling servers :)

  8. Thanks to all the support we’ve added some hardware and can lower our prices! Anyone who already signed up has been credited the difference to their account. Not the same as our old plan (256MB & 7GB for $3), but we hope the extra disk space/bandwidth makes up for it!

    LEB 256
    Monthly – $4.00
    6 Month – $20.00
    Yearly – $40.00

    LEB 80
    Monthly – $2.00
    6 Month – $10.00
    Yearly – $20.00

Didn’t think such we needed to try and post again, but if LEA does we won’t argue :) Maybe just updating the post?

  10. I was fiddling with the sales cart by following the LEB 80 order link up there. If it’s three dollars a month, I would think the six month price would be about $18. Actually shows as $10 in the drop down menu. When you choose it though, it jumps up to $27.

  11. Apparently there are a few bugs to be worked out with the new system. We will get this resolved and post back ASAP.

The issue comes down to the items that are on the page when you use the drop down, I had the Atom Dedicated servers up when I clicked on the link so annual actually turned to $408 :(

    Should have a fix shortly.

Total Recurring: $ 2.00 USD Monthly
    Total Due Today: $ 1.55

$1.55 first month, is that correct??

  15. Our plans are billed every first of the month. So Your first payment will be pro-rated depending on how far into the month it is. So if you sign up right now it your first payment would be $1.55, then your next payment will be due on November 1 for $2.

@Patrick: please give me test ip. How do you handle abuse report?

    October 12, 2010 @ 8:18 am | Reply
  19. @sonic – here is a test IP. 184.154.56.66

As far as abuse reports go… when we receive a report we work with the client to resolve the issue. If it is something along the lines of email SPAM we will monitor the IP more closely to ensure it does not end up getting blacklisted, things such as attempting to hack other servers or just plain abuse we will investigate to see if it was a matter of the server being compromised or the client themselves. If it is the client we will terminate the service, if the server was compromised we help get the server secured and back online with as little downtime as possible. Overall we work with the client to get any abuse issues resolved as quickly as possible.

  20. I’m testing Garman’s LEB 80 with an installation of Kloxo (centos upgraded to 5.5), Apache, TinyDns, qMail, and sqlite2 running a live production web http://www.primefootwear.com . Upgrading with yum a on a low memory system is quite tricky, memory consumption around 55mb, but I don’t know will it stand a higher traffic. I haven’t test with raw data upload and parsing to sqlite2 though.

So far LEB 80 quite impressing and running well.

    • Hehe it’s nice. I found yum uses a lot more memory than Debian/Ubuntu’s equivalent as yum is actually coded in Python.

      October 12, 2010 @ 10:41 pm | Reply
    • @vRozenSch00n – We’ve found that out in the past as well, and have somewhat of a solution for you. If you need a temporary boost of RAM for a few hours to either do a YUM update or for ex running cPanel DNS only on 256MB of RAM requires 512MB RAM to do the install. We are glad to add some extra RAM to your VPS in order to get things working. As long as it is for a reasonable time frame we are glad to help. Just submit a ticket if you are ever interested in doing this!

      • Thanks Patrick, to me its a challenge and I learn a lot from LEA’s blog as well to manage a very low end box and it works!

It’s a good idea to offer your low end box to webmasters that just migrating from a shared hosting to a VPS.

Debian is definitely stable, robust and suit every coders’ dream, but for my personal use I prefer CentOS + Kloxo for its ease of use. :)

        • Definitely not sure why I did not get the notification on your comment!

When I get a chance I plan to throw in a template with LEA’s Debian/Nginx setup and maybe another with the same setup + WordPress pre-installed… just haven’t gotten around to it just yet.

I’ve got a few boxes with Lenny laying around but I have CentOS on 99% of everything.

      • It’d be great if you could offer a turnkey VPS, just start, set, and run. A ready to run templates with CMS like LEA’s Debian/Nginx + WordPress pre-installed, for instance is good for learning and for anybody who needs to run an instant website.

WordPress would be a good choice as they are supported with many plugins and skins both free or paid. So, for anybody who wants all the whistle and bells on their WordPress, you can offer them with say a 256MB package.

        • Thats pretty much what I was thinking. Works perfect especially for those coming from shared hosting, get started as smoothly as possible so moving to a VPS is not completely overwhelming. Compare $2/$3 low end VPS to $5+ oversold shared hosting.

One of the benefits of VZ is that it can be upgraded fairly easily, so that jump from 80 to 256 can be pretty much automated when they need the performance boost.

Really interested, could you tell what’s the set up time? I’m in a hurry and need VPS ASAP

    • Setup time for VPS is within minutes :) once your order is in and you pay for it you will automatically be provisioned.

  22. I think that depends on their working time. I got mine in 10 minutes (see post number 9)

After testing for some times, I changed the configuration of http://www.primefootwear.com.

I use this 80M baby for control panel and ns1,
another lowend VPS (64/76) as ns2,
and a larger VPS 128/256 as ns3, web server, mysql, and mail.

All using Kloxo clustering function. Check the result here: http://intodns.com/primefootwear.com?
