Rus from GigeVPS tipped me about the launch of their new UK nodes. Use promo code UKLAUNCH to get 25% off recurring discount. GigeVPS offers the same price for both US and UK nodes. So for $4.46/month you can get their “Bronze” package with the following spec (UK signup link).
- 384MB memory
- 20GB storage
- 200GB/month data transfer on 1Gbps
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
Since GigeVPS has been bought by NetIntelligence earlier this month, whom also owns Thrust::VPS and RapidSwitch — which is probably where these VPS will be housed. Too bad the 30% off exclusive offer discount from 2 weeks ago has already disappeared.
On an off-topic note, I have been since for the last couple of days (bad bad virus) and will probably be operating in degraded mode for the next couple of days. So don’t expect intelligent posts. And don’t worry if you are a provider who have emailed me to be featured — they will come. Just will be a bit late.

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I don’t use much BW each month, but I need the ability to burst to more than 100mbit on occasion. The box being in the UK is the icing on the cake.
I was a customer of Rus’s a few years ago, for a dedicated server. I realised I was paying out the equivalent of $80 a month and hardly using the box, so decided to make the leap to VPS. Best decision I ever made, purely for financial reasons. These days I have several VPS and all together they don’t come to half of that.
I was happy with Rus’s services, so hopefully I’ll be as happy with his VPS offerings. I’ll keep you guys informed on how it goes!
I actually went for the next package up, which is slightly over the threshold for being a low-end box at $7.46 but the extra ram and transfer might be useful for me.
So far: Instant setup, decent range of OSes, reimaging was super fast.

Running unixbench right now, then wget tests afterwards. It feels very quick though.
Were you able to set up NS easily?
I think I did something wrong. I installed Cent OS Hostingabox and created my domain on klaxo. I then added the 1 ip for ns1 and ns2 and then changed my name servers to ns1.mysite.com ns2.mysite.com all in godaddy. its 3 days later and I think I need something wrong on the vps side as it hasnt resolved
get well soon LEA :)
Oops, didn’t see that bit, was in too much of a hurry to order my VPS. Hope you’re feeling better soon mate.
Wget results are in… Some very nice speeds, especially from some .US, which is nice to see.

A whopping 79MB/sec from cachefly, better than my OVH gbit VPS.
If this performance keeps up I’ll be a customer for a long time. :)
Oh, and for anyone wondering, you appear to get either the same amount of burst ram as guaranteed, or 512MB across the board.

C-C-C-CO..oh wait, wrong website.

Get well soon LEA
@Gary, how is the speed on wget ?
Get well soon LEA :D
Wish you get well soon LEA :)
Is this dedicated on 1 Gig ?
@Erawan, are u Indonesian ?
@LEB Get well soon mate! and thanks for linking to my blog post :)
@LEA get rid of that nasty bugs, recompile, restart and get well soon Bro!
@Beny – I pasted a massive list of wgets earlier.
If you’re asking about speed FROM the VPS, here are some tests.
18.1MB/sec to OVH
2.2MB/sec to home (more or less maxing me out)
7MB/sec to Sweden
It’s generally very fast. I’m impressed :)
@Gary, thank you very much, those thing, could be my first consideration for getting one slot in there then.
@Gary, they have good internet/link speed, it makes me want to try.
I’d recommend it Beny. I’ve always had good service from Rus’s companies.
I’m not very happy with the service I’ve got from gigevps. for some reason the ip address they have given is wrong somehow unable to ssh into it with the details they have provided and it even resolves to a website already. I know it’s not much in the grand scheme of things but it’s put me off using Gigevps wish I’d used someone else now
Can I enable tun/tap , torrent client ?
And how many max users in one box ?
A clerical error has put you off them? They gave you the wrong IP. They’ll fix it.
No idea on those Beny. TUN doesn’t appear to be enabled, but whether they’ll enable it on request is another thing. There doesn’t appear to be a mention of torrent/p2p/peer in their T&C, so I’d assume it’s allowed.
They gave me the wrong IP as well. I had to submit a ticket and they fixed it in an hour. Sloppy, but it hasn’t occurred again, so I guess it’s OK. I’m also interested in TUN, anyone tried it yet?
We support tun/tap out of the box so it should just work on any VPS within 10 minutes of setup
Just ordered the described VPS package a couple of hours ago. I’m very pleased thus far with the setup process and the general performance of the VPS.
Looking forward to seeing whether if performance will degrade in the future as more users are added. I hope not!
Their “5 Min Guaranteed Setup” is laughable because I paid almost 8 hours ago using Google Checkout and I was told it will take couple of hours when in fact it never takes more then 15min.
Secondly, I got an email one hour ago saying
“From what we see on our end we received no paymnet … Mind pasting the trans. info and we will mark as paid here ~ Nathalie Seleans”
Wow, I pasted my google order number and still no reply. I am not too sure about after-sales support
Nice, after waiting for 8 hours and demanding that my VPS be delivered. I was told payment was not received.
I demanded now that my payment be refunded and funny but I got a refund instantly. I just don’t know how they don’t get see my payment at the first place.
Thanks for the comments. Still a bit sick (problem of getting old, arghhh!) but we’ll see how it goes.
The staff helped me set this up again, got my details in a few hours. The best part is that the downloads are right (5+ MB/sec probably bcoz its a free box) and the ping from my country is the best I have had in years (160ms). Lovin it!
@LEA Take rest and get well soon. I am one of your silent readers :)
Why don’t they answer ticket?
Maybe don’t want any business., then why bother to advertise?
Rus answered two tickets that I opened in less than an hour on both occasions.
I’ve had good support so far too. no long waits between replies etc. Thumbs up from me so far.
what’s the swap memory size?
@chachiri
Zero, and I can’t set up my own swapfile, for some reason…
In the VPS, there is none, on one page of the control panel it has 512MB (i went for the 512MB guaranteed one) and on another it has none.
I’m assuming there’s meant to be none, and the bit in the panel that says 512MB is wrong.
These are open vz so there isn’t any swap
Just got my container, seems nice and fast thusfar. Order was instantly setup, I’ve trimmed the VPS down to 11MB usage. :)
Yeah, there’s a real sense of satisfaction in optimising things. I went for the next one up, with 512MB of ram, but I don’t use anywhere near that much. I just wanted the extra transfer, and the knowledge that there’s a little more breathing room.
Anybody here can access gigevps.net? My VPS running fine, but I can’t acess their website. I have a due date bill today at them :)
The website transfers soooo slow. Sometimes I get a timeout error while sometime I can sloooowly load it.
Thanks Klikli, I thought just my side, but looks like all side.
You may wish to use http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ to check next time :)
Just did. lol :D
There is currently a network issue to the server hosting our website. Its currently being worked on. The support desk is hosted elsewhere
Great. Just paid a few second ago. :)
We have ordered a new VPS for US based DNS hosting project. It was provisioned and the IP was not pingable and working. We have applied for Paypal refund cause we have canceled this exact US based VPS and they have deleted the whole account with other 1 UK based working VPS in it … I am totally pissed off.
@Gary (and others)
Still happy with the service?
When googleing around I got mixed reviews.
Yep, nothing to complain about. Still fast and stable. :)
