As I was putting the finishing touches on my DediRock review article published Wednesday, I uploaded the YABS to ServerVerify.
While there, I noticed a new tab, Insights, and decided to take a look.
LowEnd Data
ServerVerify is in a great position to look out over the many providers and systems and draw some analytic conclusions. There’s over 7,000 YABS that have been loaded into the site. The ServerVerify Insights engine then analyzes this data continuously to produce interesting charts.
For example:

I’m not surprised that Debian is #1 though I am surprised to see just how dominant it is. And Debian and Ubuntu is pretty much the whole ball of wax, with Alma a distant third. The apt universe is far more popular in the DIY/LowEnd space and the yum/dnf universe. And *BSD doesn’t even register.
And how about this:

Note the time scale – this view only goes back 2 years. In that time, IPv6 has jumped from 30% to over 60%. This doesn’t mean that everyone is configuring IPv6 for all their services, or that these systems are IPv6-only. It just means that IPv6 is configured and shows up in the YABS. But still, that’s 200% growth in 2 years.

No surprise that the USA and Western Europe lead in terms of numbers, but pretty cool to see all the different places around the world where our community runs VMs. I mean…Kyrgyzstan?!? Who offers hosting in Kyrgyzstan? Yes, there’s a YABS from there.
Head over and check it out!
