Our reader Marcel emailed me about a Germany hosting provider he uses for his production servers — Heckrath.net. The site is pretty much all in German, and here is their VPS page. For €2.99/month (~USD$3.85) you can get the following VPS
- 128MB memory
- 5GB storage
- 300GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/custom panel
Their website traces to Hetzner DC in Germany. They also provide 2 backups slots, which enables you to take snapshot of your VPS and restore back to that state later.

Might give these guys a go in the next week or so. I’ve been looking for a EU-based vps where IRC isn’t explicitly banned. These guys block port 6667 but don’t say you can’t use IRC.
@ LEA – the wording on the website seems to suggest that the 2.99 euros/month package comes with no backup slots, unless I’m misreading something.

Contact info@heckrath.net to get a one week trial of any Basic, Standard, Advanced VPS.
Backups / Snapshots slots is 2 for Basic and Standard, 4 for the Advanced.
“Datentransfer” is included traffic
“Zusätzlicher Datentransfer je GB” is additional traffic per GB
They are stressing that they are a “Kleinunternehmer” (very small company) and are therefor exempt from VAT paperwork stuff.
They offering a Rescue System for the VPS which boots a Debian 5 Minimalsystem and mounts the VPS / as /mnt/data.
This is something I know from Hetzner dedi offerings.
Anyhow, I’m not connected to Heckrath, just happen to hunt for VPSs and speak german ;)
Hrm, just checked the ordering process … they only offer automatic debit transfer (bank collection?), prepai (via wire transfer I presume) and per Invoice (post-paid).
Looks like they are not (yet?) ready for an international LEB crowd ;).
They dont support paypal? Alexa raning is lower, like a new site…
I have a VPS on heckrath.net for nearly a year and can really recommend it.
