LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Infinitie.net - $5 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Phoenix

Via this WHT offer. INFINITIE.net, a subsidiary of Las Vegas based Eonix Corporation that was founded in 2000, is currently running a 50% off discount for life promotion with coupon code Mar50. Their Linux VPS products would start at $5/month with the following spec

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 250GB/month data transfer on 10Mbps
  • 8 IP addresses
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers in Phoenix AZ with Phoenix NAP (test IP: 50.2.0.34), with a mix of Level3, Hurricane Electric, Global Crossing and Cogent connectivity. Definitely not the best bang for the bucks consider there are many other offers on VPS in Phoenix with a better price/performance ratio. However if grabbing many IPv4 addresses is your thing, then this might be a suitable offer. They have also been around for many years selling all sorts of hosting products.

If I remember well this host still don’t use paypal (after so many years) and it was a lot of complains at WHT regarding charging credit cards payments after hosting cancellations in past.

WHT has a lot of horror stories about this company. Their TOS is pretty frightening too

Especially the part (section 15) where they charge $325 if they terminate your
    account for any reason.

I have used their service in the past. There is no support. Once you purchase you are on your own.

I had a dedicated server from them for five or six days, and the network was abysmal. Slow throughput, constant packet loss, high jitter, and routing that was painfully inimical to common sense. I’d thought that perhaps all the negative comments about them were unfounded, or outdated; they were not.

Among the five, possibly three, worst providers I’ve ever used. I’d host on my 1.5/0.5 ADSL line before I hosted with them again…

  7. Doesn’t sound good! Perhaps not the best choice for a lowendbox for those looking!

They are *NOT* in PhoenixNAP. They are in the i/o facility in Phoenix, FYI and have been there for many years.

LEA, you really should update the post.

    • Okay. I crossed out the PhoenixNAP part. I thought they are in the same DC as this GotHost offer (who has an IP address in Eonix Corporation’s block). Since I can’t find much info about “ENXPHXDC01” on the net (google yields infinitie.net and other resellers), a traceroute (to GotHost’s test IP) shows it gets there via SecuredServers.com whose presence is in PhoenixNAP. So I thought might be in the same location.

Understandable heh. http://gothost.net/datacenter.php – same as Infinitie’s. God knows, but I know for sure that John & co at Infinitie are in I/O and not PhxNAP.

ENXPHXDC01 looks more like EonixPhoenixDC01 abbreviated – so no doubt it’d only show them ;p

Anyway – enough inspector gadget work for today!

  9. Hello,

I just wanted to clear up a few things here. First we do not use paypal because we saw lots of fraud signups through paypal, then paypal would lock our account during investigation and no one would be able to sign up or pay their bills. It was a real headache so we decided not to use paypal until they change a few of their policies. As far as the issue with accounts still being billed, this has not happened in well over a year since we changed our billing software.

In regards to the $325 charge, that is only for early termination of a contract. We do not force anyone to sign a contract and most of our services do not even offer contract options.

We are not hosted in IO. We were back in the day but have not been for some time, although we do still have 1 or 2 servers hosted there for redundancy.

As for the IPs tracing through CWIE not securedservers we use their network as one of our bgp peers to provide more redundancy in the connection.

Bert, I am sorry that you had a bad experience with support in the past but over the last year we have drastically improved our support offerings by hiring more representatives and simplifying our processes to offer 24/7/365 support that is second to none.

Snape, You should have submitted a support ticket and we could have assisted you with your network issue. We pride ourselves on the stability and reliability of our network and provide full redundancy all the way from our edge routers to the cabinets.

    • *sigh* I’m so tired of this. Another host who says one thing and we can point at their website to show that something else is true.

Austin, I’m looking right at your Checkout page. On it is a link to your User Agreement linked to above. Clients have to agree (ie Check the Yes box.) to the Agreement before they can move on, right?

Please also note the first paragraph in your User Agreement where it states that using any of the services, folks agree to the terms of the User Agreement. Actually how you have it worded, even using your website or visiting it, folks agree to the Agreement.

Of course now that means we all own them the fees for visiting their site. :)

  10. Drmike,

I do not see the the correlation between agreeing to a user agreement and signing a contract. These are two very different things. Signing a contract means that you are agreeing to use and pay for service for an extended period of time say one or two years. A user agreement just tells you about all of our policies and procedures. Everyone no matter who they sign up with will agree to a user agreement. Contracts are only offered on some of our plans like collocation and dedicated servers.

You don’t owe us any fees for visiting our site. :) It states that you do not have to pay anything to visit our site or open an account with us. You only pay for active services.

I have been with Infinitie for about 6 years now, and yes I have had issues with their support in the past, a couple of times early on I wanted to strangle them!!! but I honestly do think they finally have their act straightened out, at least as far as Dedicated Server users,. As of lately my email support requests have been dealt with promptly, and the last few tickets the communication has been great back and fourth day or night.

Regarding my server they have always been really easy to work with in regards to updating or adding things that I need, I started with a (2) VPS machines with them and have worked my way up to a pretty decent Dedicated server spec’d out to what I wanted (This is my main server, I do have couple other servers at other companies for various reasons).

I don’t think there is a better deal than what I pay for my dedicated server (at least not with the same specs)….. and if the support stays good I will finally be very happy with Infinitie.
