LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

IPAP.co - $6.99 2GB OpenVZ VPS in Germany

Update December 2011 — IPAP.co’s website stopped working on 22 December, although the company has long gone already.

IPAP IPAP.co emailed me this last week. “After a lot of time working NOW we are offering new VPS service which will beat lot of providers.” Their new service? Super VPS, and you get 3 hosting plans to choose from. Huge. Giant, or MONSTER. “Huge” would be their “low end” range, at $6.99/month and it has the following specification:

  • 2GB guaranteed/4GB burstable memory
  • 250GB storage
  • 1Gbps unmetered bandwidth (but capped at 10Mbps after 10TB of usage until the month ends, or $3/1TB on 1Gbps)
  • 2 IP addresses
  • OpenVZ/vePortal

That thing has more memory and disk space than all my low end boxes combined. Servers with Hetzner in Germany. They are using Core i7 x980 boxes (6 core, 12 hyper threads) with 6x 2TB RAID. Automated setup. Do check their ToS and do note that they don’t normally refund, before you sign up and take advantage the bandwidth. Their about page is still under construction, although according to IPAP.co Admin, they have “offices” in quite a few countries. However their WHOIS record is completely bogus — with privacy protection turned on, having an address in Australia but a phone number in Denmark. Domain was only registered in January this year. I just feel it’s a bit dubious to have so many “offices” yet they have no presence on WHT, and so far only a nameless “IPAP Co Admin” been commenting on LowEndBox. Previous post has over 400 comments so you might want to see how IPAP Co Admin responded to people’s inquires. Or if you don’t have time reading through all the comments, I am sure heaps of people will start chiming in about their experiences.

What’s your problem with myresellerhost? I have two VPS with them running for more than a half year with a decent perormance and almost no downtime.

        • Haha, you xD But me…

          – Long delay support
          – Disk overselled, 250GB? Nah, It was just decreasing more and more (< 100GB)
          – Funny answers from support (This was the worst).
          – And finally, a cancellation before the end of the cycle. Support answer? A joke. They are… a joke.

Feel sorry for you. I know they are overselling the HDD however I don’t use tons of data(under 100 GB) so it does not really matter for me.

        • Not, me too, I was using 250MB of disk (yes, 250MB). But if they promise 250GB, you must have always 250GB. In any moment I can decide to put a 248GB file filled with zeroes and then?? Disk full? That isn’t ok. Unethical company.

Seems like they might. From an email I got from them announcing these new packages:

“These servers are located on our private racks in hetzner.”

          June 16, 2011 @ 9:45 am | Reply
        • Highly doubt it given the pricing they have on racks on hetzner.

          http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_colocation/rack

At just 10A usable they could only fit a couple of these 980’s on there as they’re incredibly power hungry (at least 125W)

Check the BW costs as well :)

  3. What’s funny is that on a 1Gbit port Hetzner only includes 10TB with the whole server and requires you pay out the ass for more or agree to remove the abusive resource. When you get limited the port gets perm capped to 10Mbit/sec. as well.

Funny to say the least :)

    • Thanks for sharing Fran, if that really is the case, a couple of VPSes using it to rsync etc MAY bring down the whole node to 10Mbit/sec

      • You can read hetzner’s breakdown on their page.

I’m fairly sure nordic ran into the speed caps and that’s why they took ages to complete all of the work in Germany a few months ago.

    • LowEndUser:

Maybe they based their specs on older terms. Hetzner used to reduce the network speed to 10Mbit after X TB and automatically switch back to 100Mbit at the start of the next month. They changed it to a permanent cap a while ago.

  9. Still with this provider and needless to say, forget the Super(low)IO VPS. it sounds entirely oversold.

However i was on a Nitros Server by FDC and my IO was at about 150Mb/s and was really nice.
I no longer need that server as i downgraded to a VDS (imo better then SuperVPS) BUT the system setup has been over 14 days to set up.

In addition, if you order a Windows Nitros Mini, you cannot go above 4GB in RAM, its been over 50 days since i have been waiting for a 4GB RAM increase that i paid for.

overall: servers good (nitros/vds only), support: VERY slow, hard to understand (and sometimes they will mix your ticket with another client and youll get an odd answer! i was talking about server credit and while i got my answer 4 minutes later i got an answer about a cpanel question, i dont use cpanel here!).

Support is entirely lacking. Delivery is automatic for SuperVPS but ANY other VPS/Dedi system, it will take 10-40 days if your lucky. Seriously.

BTW, support/sales/billing is lacking so much that my Nitros Server took 18 days to cancel after I stopped paying for it. ;)

Linked in profile matches the CV.

Not necessary. As someone above said “PayPal payment was to a one Grzegorz Dzien” – .cz/EU and this what’s also pasted isn’t ARIN but RIPE whois info which MAKES DIFFERENCE as .us legislation isn’t world legislation.

I mean.. it’s very likely that servers are rented by this Grzegorz Dzien from EU and .us have no autority over him even if real company owner really come from Iran.
          Iran -> EU -> US

Better not host ANYTHING with them, I’m not from US BTW! But I didn’t expect this provider being Iran based. This simply means I can’t trust that anymore (I already thought the offer is unrealistic, but now that thought becomes 10x). Sorry! Hetzner is a good DC, but there are many budget providers who has reasonable and realistic packages at same DC.

I mean, 250 GB AND 2 GB RAM both in one package???!?! fine!!!
How about bandwidth? 10TB? WTF? !!!
CPU anybody??? Geekbench 11337 ?!?!????????? WTH? That is around 5 budget VPSs.
Sorry, this can’t be, and will suffer in the near future. Or there is something isn’t correct with that (understand it the way you like)!!!

And I thought to order this and replace a VPS of mine, it looks too good no doubt, but unrealistic!!

I’m concerned about their government, which is apperantly trying to disconnect the country from the Internet. We would lose contact with this provider.

    June 17, 2011 @ 4:00 am | Reply
    • We have already established that the servers are in Germany, the guy how is receiving the money is most likely in the Czech Republic and the domain is registered through somewhere in Australia, only the IP addresses are registered to an Iranian (at an address that probably does not exist).
I find it very unlikely that either the US or Iran could block servers hosted in Germany. The most likely causes for loosing contact with this provider are:
      A) They disappear with our money
      B) Hetzner/RIPE take back the IP addresses for providing what looks like falsified information.

I will say it again, it looks too good to be true and probably is but so far they have delivered what I paid for (support has been pretty poor though, iptables does not support nat at the moment). I certainly will not be putting anything important on that server though.

That did not happen so I re-opened it and they just changed it to in progress. That was about 6 hours ago.

I have a dedi with them. THe service isnt really good.

First, it took me 20 days for them to deliver it, by that time it was written that it would take 3 to 4 business days ro deliver. Today it is written 3 to 5, and 3 to 14 days, in the same page, means they dint give a shit for what they write on their webpage, and they really dint care, nor even try to follow what is written there.

Second, the internet speeds are awfull. I mean, really awfull. If the conection is to inside the US, it is pretty good, having 50mb/s, but if you step to any country outside US, the conection speed drops to 5mb/s, on the best countries, some countries like russia, brazil, japan etc you have 1mb/s sometimes 500kbps. If you open a ticket with them, they will say everything is ok, and they will close your ticket.

Third, they delivered me a different CPU then the one I hired. Just like that, it was written a CPU model when I hired it, they delivered me another one, with inferior clock. I opnened a ticket, and they said it was a different CPU, and as sometimes there isnt that model on the market, they can deliver any crap they want. After taht, they changed the webpage of the product, putting this new CPU. My ticket is still opened, they close it at random times, without proper answer at all. They keep postponing the solution, and want me to just forget about it.

Finally their support is lame, I never asked anything dificult, a OS change took them a week to do. The support just cant read what you write on your tickets, probably some of them cant speak/write in english at all. You can write your ticket, they will not understand it at all. Also they will respond in the shortest an meaningless way possible, just ignoring anything you write. Sometimes you cant even understand what their employees meant.
Any documentation on their page is meaningless, even if they are wrong, going against their own documentation, they will ignore or change the documentation.

The service is cheap, but not worth of your money. If you want a dedi, find one at webtropia or server4you. 10 dollars more expensive, but they will not fool you.

  28. Hello,

first of all we can not take a look at all of these comment , any one having any specific question , should bring it to our ticket system ,

    but to sum up :
1 – SuperVPS is not oversold
2 – One server has IO problem because of 3ware raid controller which can not be changed to adaptec because it will cause 24 hours downtime AT LEAST
    3 – curretnly 40 servers are full!
4 – We will change all legacy VPSs to new superVPS line soon

  29. And Now let’s get Iranian … cleared :
We are not Iran based AT ALL , our main office ETC is in Turkey and Dubai , but we do have an office(not for hosting) in iran that exchanges money there :)
    However , for IPAP ,
we do hae 6 Active Staff , 2 Level 1 and 4 Level 2 support mainly for Shared Hosting species!
    Names Are :
    Vignesh,
    Girish
    Ashok
    Arun
    Iderjit
    rom

    they are indian based ,
Grzegorz Dzien is a Polish Resident and is one of the owners ,
Farzad is a Owner and is in Dubai , Arab Emirates
Samireh is a Owner and is in Dubai , Arab Emirates (She is ARABIAN)

for HDDs , Hetzner gives you the server with 4 HDDs but when you rent a rack you need to buy your OWN servers and that is how we host their , i have negotiated for like 1 month with Hetzner to get these kinda servers for a good price!
you know we wanted to give these servers about 2 months ago but we had issue for servers that i needed at least 6 HDDs :(

so now we are here , please tell me all concerns in ticket really we are BUSY with MANY MANY MANY things .
and Lowend Admin thank you for your support!

I have got a response from them:

    Hello
we responded there but , here are your answeres , we ahve a rack at hetzner so that we do not use their normal servers ;)!
that is why we have 6 HDDs!
and SERVER has 1Gbps WITH 320 TB , sir we do not have 10TB BW :)

    Plausible?

  34. And we are back , my colleague’s comments are pending and will be shown soon ,

i just have time for clear one point ,
We are not Iran based AT ALL , we only have one exchange office there because you know Iran has oil market etc , any way , we used that address because we wanted to be excluded from VAT that Hetzner applies , but now it seems we can use our UAE address and that is VAT exclusive too :)
so anyway everything is fine ppl
and we are going to offer all legacy VPS for a discounted price ;)
anybody has a question please open a ticket in ipap.co/members
we do not have that much time at the moment to read comments in this post :(
We are setting up 3 new server every day for SuperVPS to set that UP!

another concern was that how can we provide such greate BW :)
actually we have about 800TB of data on our rack with 3Gbps Uplnk for Whole RACK at the moment!
so we can provide big BW and etc :)
anyway thank anybody for spending time ready and posting on this thread

I guess I’m an idiot, but what does a CP has to do with server being oversold and not responding?
Guy thinks he will change CP and the load will be gone?

    and something like this…

    [root@beta ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/output.img bs=8k count=256k
    262144+0 records in
    262144+0 records out

This is realy good…But now go on bad side :)

vePortal don’t work…Need to wait 20m+ to just login…I have try to open ticket, about this, and they say, they are fixing this…That is last answer on 14/06/2011 :) Today they again answer on my new ticekt about vePortal and they say that the vePortal is fixed, but today i need 1h to just login, and can’t see any icon from vePortal, so i can’t reinstall os, can’t change root password…So i opened new ticket about os install and password change, and after some time i got new os with new root password…But the problem is, i can’t login to ssh with that password coz it’s wrong…

Last word, think few times before you buy here…Maybe download speed is good like disk I/O but you will not have any VPS panel to reinstall os, change password, or to see how much disk space, ram, etc you use…

    After following comments, I think:

    – They have monthly plans, so no lose for anyone paying month-to-month in any case and if you ever become dissatisfied, but anyway, keep a backup of your data -with this or any provider that doesn’t have backups-

    – Seems to be doing best to improve, so they maybe able to deliver something at least close to what is advertised

Anyway that is everyone’s decision and estimation, and good luck!

Had some problems with the I/O

when i bought the server 2 days ago it had a Disk I/O of 350/400 mb/s

    And now 40/60 mb/s

Opened a ticket and they said this:

sir it is very normal for radi 10 drives with 7200RPM
    dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 18.2347 seconds, 58.9 MB/s

Is 58.9 MB/s really normal on those drives?

    • Tom:

Yes, that is more then good.

      Poor I/O – X-20MB/s
      Fair I/O – 25-40MB/s
      Good I/O – 60MB/s
      Superb I/O 90MB/s

But yet again it’s just my personal view on the dd test.

Can anybody PLEASE if knows how to do a temp fix for vePortal Slowness , email me at info @ ipap.co?!
Greg has suggested one fix and it is doing better but if anybody knows i appreciate it and even we can pay for the help :
    our suggestion was :
1 – Tweaking HTTPD server that is for vePortal
2 – Running a Cronjob to restart that HTTPD Service every 10 minutes .

    Note : The Main node loads are average between : 8 to 12 with %10us , 30%WA and %60Idle

    • Just offering you some help here. Since you are asking. I’ve read all of the comments and I think you have two problems.

#1 vePortal does appear to have a issue with management

#2 You have a lot of contention on your host nodes.

Both #1 and #2 are issues but they are not a result of each other. They are separate problems that are unrelated unless you are running vePortal in a container on this host node. Your not are you? If you are then that is why vePortal is suffering. If you made that mistake in the design then you need to get a small stand alone server to have vePortal run exclusive on. Please note that the portal is not causing problems with the containers running slow. OpenVZ is handling the containers not vePortal.

I’m a bit confused I thought I read up above that you had a problem with I/O because of 3ware? But 4 posts above you said Adaptec? Is this a different node or was that a typo? Either way can you have whoever designed the system verify that write back caching is enabled on the controller? What model Adaptec is it? If its not enabled that will make all the difference in the world. Please note if the BBU (battery backup) is not present some will not let you enable write back caching.

      I don’t like seeing a load of 8 to 12 to a host node.

30%WA is I/O wait. Meaning that the CPU has work to do but its having to wait on the I/O subsystem to do it. This is a problem. This is whats known as I/O contention.

Are you seeing this sustained or is this a peak?

Your #1 priority right now is to verify that write back caching is enabled and that the BBU is present. Schedule a downtime in advance to have the node powered off to check this.

If it is enabled and you still have this you need to split the current load across another host node or two.

I’m not telling you how to run your business but I’m just offering my help if you want it.

      • This is a example of what load + I/O Wait should reflect on a loaded node. Around 60 VM’s. The node has 16GB RAM, 4 Disk Raid 10 with a Adaptec 5402 + BBU.

        top - 16:18:01 up 57 days, 22:03, 1 user, load average: 3.94, 4.22, 4.06
        Tasks: 838 total, 4 running, 833 sleeping, 0 stopped, 1 zombie
        Cpu(s): 45.4%us, 5.4%sy, 0.0%ni, 47.8%id, 0.4%wa, 0.1%hi, 0.9%si, 0.0%st
        Mem: 16392968k total, 16282516k used, 110452k free, 1181948k buffers
        Swap: 18481144k total, 348k used, 18480796k free, 10631060k cached

        DD yields:

        [juggernaut@ovz2 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
        16384+0 records in
        16384+0 records out
        1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 6.29534 seconds, 171 MB/s

Without write back caching and the multiple spindles it would not be able to do that.

  65. Guys, seriously, do you want someone who does not know everything too well but is willing to admit that they do not know things and try to ask around for help or do you want your VPS host to be like that Foster guy in W2 who knows nothing and are not willing to admit the fact that he knows nothing and screw everyone up in the end?

I am not saying that these guys are perfect, but at least they are willing to listen and learn, they first used Blesta but after people complained, they moved to WHMCS, they are using vePortal but are now trying to make a change, their TOS used to be like crap but now at least it is a lot better.

For all I know, these guys may not have a University degree + 10 yrs sys admin experience (and that is perhaps one of the reasons why they charge an incredibly low price), but don’t you think they deserve a chance to learn and to evolve?

Not exactly a fan of them but I just think they should deserve a better treatment than what they are receiving here.

    • at least they are willing to listen and learn

That’s the problem. In the past they weren’t willing. We pointed out a number of issues with their sites and their offerings but just got negativity back from them.

I don’t know everything either and I’ll be the first to admit it. I do know though that posting on a general hosting blog (It’s not even a forum) isn’t the way to get help. (Especially considering it’s their SALES offer. Makes them look really good.) Either vePortal’s own support forum or the LET forum would have been where I would have started and that would have been done after spending some time with Google. I would have also been posting with as much details as possible such as errors, what debugging I have done, etc. I would have also been leaning on the box provider and/or the techs at the datacenter also to fix their systems if that was an option. They appear to have done none of that. At least nothing up there says that they have.

I would be the first to offer help and I really do my best to do so but after trying to do so with these folks previously, I know my time is wasted. I’d rather go help and feed breakfast to the 250+ homeless folks that I just got in front as that does more good. And, I’ve got to admit that I don’t know squat about vePortal. :)

But I’m not stopping anyone else from doing so. I’m very glad Brandon stepped up and made some suggestions. If the folks who did my tech support handled vePortal, I would have forwarded them the link to this thread and asked them if they had any ideas. Heck, I’ve done that to Quickweb and Fran a couple of times previously.

As to the out of stocks, I do hope that they have just taken what was still available off line until they get their systems but up and running.

If anyone else wants to offer help, I;m not going to stand in the way. There are better ways to ask for and offer assistance though.

      No offense intended.

      • @drmike: Please accept my apologies for the confusion but the comments above was totally not pointing to you at all. I apologize not because you are a respected member here, but because you have every single fact to back every single statement you have made, which I can not argue about.
The “people” that I was referring to, I am not sure if you have noticed recently or not, are the bunch of first-time/occasional posters who loves to make conclusive statements like: “this got to be a scam” or “they will fail” or “xxxx company screwed me up” without having any statement to back them up.
Like what I said, IF at the end of the day, IPAP run away with everyone’s money, then there is nothing I can say (in fact, I would probably be the first one to call them scammers), however, from what I can see, these guys are just some unlucky dudes having a hard time to get things “right”.
Different cultures treat suggestions differently and I am sure you will agree with me that in some culture, people take offense when others tell them “how to run their business” (although I understand that you were merely being nice and give them some help), however, in their defense, I think it is harder for someone who is originally against taking suggestions to be one that is willing to take suggestions and ask for help in a place that they perhaps think will be the most responsive (judging from how much attention everyone is paying here).
And may be they do “look bad” by asking for help here, but on the other hand, at least we know they are trying their best to fix things rather than sitting there doing nothing and tell their customers:”there is nothing we can do until VePortal get back to us” (which I am sure this is not unfamiliar to frequent LEB readers).
I agree these guys lack both technical and perhaps business skills (sorry for being honest), however, I think in this industry, the most important thing is to be able to work hard and learn stuff as fast as possible and have a thick face to learn. They were, at the beginning, under the par in terms of those skills, but I think they are trying to pick up along the way at this point.

    • @Thelen: did they run away with your money? Did they tried to scam you by any means? If no, please stop accussing someone as scammer just because they are selling things at a low price. For all I know, chinese and indians are making things that cost them 30 cents US and happily sell them to all americans for 30 dollars, are all Chinese and Indians “scam artists” by your logic?
Please, don’t use Internet to say anything you like just because nobody knows who or where you are.

i agree but you wont get anywhere that amount of resources for $7.
and the most important thing is that they’re trying to fix the issues, as a proof veportal works quite good *at the moment* for me (can’t say the same for ssh tho). so if you want perfect services, i guess you have to pay 7, 8 times more.

        • Well I don’t feel like giving out entire information of my email as it already has enough spam from providers.
          Anyway;
The last invoice I paid with you guys was #279

I had a VDS with you first, IO was great but network was 100KB/s which you guys then gave me a Nitros.
Nitros was very nice, 108MB/s IO really ran our game server at great speed, but you guys were unable to give me a 4GB increase due to Citrix not giving you the RAM.

I’ve gone back down to a VDS, which btw is still not delivered, in the USA, which Farzad will add the 4GB to that VDS I ordered.

Great servers in my opinion, but your support is having some problems. Just some advice for you.

I think i’ll stay off the SuperVPS’s though, your line of VDS/Nitros is nice enough.
Just note that Nitros servers are not dedicateds, they are VDS’s but in my opinion not as powerful for a game server as we need as much clock cpu as possible.
AMD Opteron 6128 2.1Ghz won’t do well with single-threaded clock games. i7 3.33Ghz did really well however.

        • @Dekken Probably you can have more. If the provider monitors the nodes and assuming that generally not all the VPS will take their 2GB, then oversell is normal and is ok in some way. But in any way, I can’t expect more than 18 (maybe 20) of these per node for a decent service.

We (NordicVPS) experienced a severe downtime back in December 2010, because Hetzner took down the whole node server down based on one abuse report.

I think, when they finished, they will set up the correct available VPS numbers again depends on the available resources.

They may have had 30 ‘huge’ left, but sold 58. Re-allocating that 58 would result in a -28 stock.

Hi to all sorry but i am completely nood on vps and i would like to start learning but i cant find any tutorial on that so the question is pretty simple.. if i buy this server can i setup a shoutcast server on that ? or is it just for hosting ? May i have 3 sites hosting there & and a shoutcast server with 2 radios (100 listeners@128 each one) on the same VPS?
Sorry if this is irrelevant to the topic i didn’t mean to spam..

    Thanks for your answers

    June 21, 2011 @ 5:31 pm | Reply
    • Yes you can set up shoutcast, yes you can host 3 websites aswell as shoutcast on the same server.

Would I recommend it? No. I always recommend keeping shoutcast on a separate server (after all you don’t want your websites running slow if you have a lot of listeners right?)

On the other hand, 100 listeners at 128kbps is only 12.8mbps, so it shouldn’t be a problem to have the three websites on the same server (plenty of bandwidth left for the websites)

They had plenty of time to fix it. 8 hour downtime to check the RAID disks followed by a day of downtime to switch to solusVM in the course of 3 days. Improvements made? Absolutely none, if anything, it’s worse now. It’s funny that they offer 1 Gbps unmetered. You’d be lucky if your hard drive can keep up with 1-3 MB/sec.

        June 22, 2011 @ 8:23 pm | Reply
    • I am going to guess that people all writing 1.1GB to the disks at the same time is not helping the results.

It is clear these servers are oversold, they will have to be to be cost effective. Overselling is not a bad thing if it is done carefully/properly (maybe not the case here, time will tell).

I will also hazard a guess that next month things will improve as lots of people cancel their accounts.

      • There were some abusers using lots of cpus , we have installed some monitoring tools on all nodes and optimzied nodes to please be advised that your CPU is shared , SupervPS does not mean Dedicated server it is yet a VPS but wth more RAM and HDD (you will not own the whole CPU) , so please use CPU carefully any overusage in CPU that will cause high load on main node will result in suspension ,
We put 10-20 servers on each node (depending on package) and will monitor each server resources , If anyone sees any kinda slownes plase open a ticket so that we will determine the abuser on the node and wll take proper actions :)

AND we have restock but only 20 is remaining ;)
we will restock on each Tuesday about 40-50 numbers! (because adding each main node will cost $1400 and we can only add 3 nodes max each week)
another thing is we will upgrade the HDD on VDS packages for a limited time , the HDD would me triple the past!

        • VDS Packages:
Does that mean Nitros and VDS? As known both are considered VDS’s and are completely confusing.
I have to admit the ‘vps/vds/nitros/’ line is really confusing on your lines, i’ve seen tickets be named VDS’s for Nitros servers and makes me think that I have a VDS instead of a Nitros.

Now I don’t need any big hard drive space for my VDS, I could settle for 20GB and still have >50% of space left on it. I hope the upgrade doesn’t slow your VDS hard drive I/O down.

Triple the past = so 75GB On VDS Med is 225GB? eh… you could call that a promotion but I can just imagine the Hard Drive IO speed dropping by Triple the past too.

Our game server needs at least 30-40MB/s IO. I’m pretty sure low ends could handle at least 30 I/O, despite its fair IO.

          June 22, 2011 @ 11:38 pm | Reply
        • In my opinion, that not a good idea to share all cpus with all vps; this will cause same cpu abuse problems again and again.

Intel i7 x980 cpu is very powerfull, if you give just 1 or 2 core (2 or 4 HT thread), this prevent that one misconfigured vps use all cpu resources and slow down the other servers on the same node until the support staff will suspend the misconfigured vps. This offer still remain “will beat lot of providers” with reduced cpu cores. IMHO

        • steven:

It’s not a CPU issue, it’s a disk I/O issue. Geekbench results haven’t degraded as much as I/O.

    Sure bro.

    Hello,

We have a automatic process prioritization system on our OpenVZ nodes which gives more resource to processes which have more system priority .
Due to this fact , "dd" command becomes a low priority process , and therefore it may have LESS resources when running to make sure other important processes are running fast .
That is why you may SOMETIMES experience bad DD result and sometimes you may see better DD results .

    Thanks you

I noticed DD results were very poor, but downloading a 100mb test file was transferring at around 50M/s, consistently.

SolusVM is now so slow it should be classed as torture

… vps has just gone down. It won’t boot via SolusVM either.

      • I should add that wget will cache things into memory (be it real RAM or SWAP). You can get 50MB/sec or even 1GB/sec on a DD if you remove the ‘conv’ part, but then you’re relying entirely on caching and not getting the actual drive performance.

The 2.6.18 kernels don’t have cgroup support so there isn’t any way to set process priority easily. ionice can help some but unless they’re running some brutal constant while loop monitoring ps they’re not going to catch dd’s.

Seems like that’s a bit unfair policy for CPU usage. A simple extract of a large file would get you banned. Why not just say 6 hours or even 12 hours? Those are the people abusing your servers.

That would have to be SOME kind of a large file, to take over 5 minutes to extract. Outside of rolling a backup back onto a server from tape drive, I’ve personally never had a tarball that ginormagantuan. The policy seems fair to me.

A quick second thought on this. If you happen to have a file that big that needs extracting, man nice, and pretend your version of tar came without a v flag. You too can extract large files without overloading the server. I don’t have a VPS with these guys but if I did, I wouldn’t wish to be on the same node while some guy runs a proc eating monster java app and they wait 6 or 12 hours to decide if he’s an abuser or just playin at it.

Hmm. I’m good with that policy then, but if I don’t see some major speed improvements, this is it for me. There’s no way I’m paying for next month.

It takes over 5 minutes to do rm -Rf on a 100MB folder and the CPU usage goes way over 15%. Should my VPS be terminated for doing that?

Poor I/O is killing everything, including the CPU. Don’t try apt-get update & apt-get upgrade, your VPS might get terminated >_<

The policy could be fair, but it's not fair right now, it makes this pretty much useless VPS completely useless.

Such tips are clearly coming from WHT where people just say nonsense to raise their post count.
Got a MMORPG server with 160 days uptime running 2GB java on OpenVZ = 0 problems.
Got a Tomcat7 serving an advertising APP on 1GB OpenVZ = 0 problems.

I think I read enough to never buy anything from this amateur. Here’s what I summarized for myself:

    1) veportal –> solusvm to solve overselling problem –> FAIL.
    2) Unable to fix I/O abuse since basically the announcement of this VPS line –> FAIL.
    3) Sure Lowendbox isn’t a support desk, but failing to show for a whole week and not take responsibility for overselling leading to server instability of 10′ of clients –> FAIL.
    4) Adjusting CPU after a contract (sale) has been made –> FAIL.
    5) Coming up with Terms of Service on the go, when people didn’t sign up under them –> FAIL.
    6) Breaching privacy of customers –> FAIL.

This is the speed I get from one of the SuperVPS Monster

Since 18th, I had been waiting for IPAP to fix this. Someone throttled my box even though I haven’t even used more than 1% of my bandwidth. Now my box would never go over 9Mbit. They can’t fix it, as they said it’s VEPortal problem, and they don’t know how to fix it. I requested to be transferred to SolusVM but my tickets keep getting closed. It seems like IPAP is avoiding fixing this for me.

And btw this IPAP.CO’s Service Rocks.. I recieved the VPS in just 15 minutes after my purchase. And very quick response… Worth buying this one… I personally think this one is the best till now…

I have one vps from them in Germany…I have opened few dicket about vePortal problem, and every time i get answer we will fix this. Now i have pay for secound month, and i can’t access to my panel. Can’t reinstall system, can’t do any thing here…Some things are strange more here…From time to time, ftp, httpd and other services just turn off, and i don’t know why…I have try to start them via ssh but nothing, so i wan’t to try to restart vps but i can’t coz panel don’t work…

So support here is = 0
    Price are good
vps realy don’t work good coz you will have a lot problems like:
    ssh go down by himself
ftp and httpd go down himself
you can’t start them from ssh coz it’s down
you can’t restart nod coz you can’t access to panel

So think few time before you buy from here

Of course no one here is offering any proof what so ever that they even have a VPS with them so it’s all moot.

        • After 3 months of this company I moved on to a Dedi and left them in the dark.
I never got my 4GB Upgrade and just recently my Nitros Server just randomly dropped to 3GB.

Note this – my server started off with Windows 2008 R2 in CitrixXen Server and had 4GB of RAM.
I got a response from them saying that because of Citrix that Windows Server 2008 R2 can only go up to 3GB.

Doesn’t make any sense, it was 4GB until for no reason in June it decided to drop 3GB.
Also the AMD cores vary every time you restart, sometimes you’ll have the full 2.20Ghz Core or just have 1.98Ghz one restart. You can tell they are using complete logical cores instead of physical.

I had a good 3 months on the server though but seriously, a 10-20 day delivery service is ridiculous. My dedi only took 3 *business* days and they were really busy (no setup fee week).

ipap really needs to end their services and focus on making it better, because their ticket system is pointless if all they do is close your ticket. Might as well be Volumedrive’s email support.

My Nitros Server was alive for over 40 days without payment after. That’s great for me but really bad for them.
I also have no charts for bandwidth usage and logs, you have to install those yourself and go from there. That’s just terrible as well.

It ran our game server great, but after 11 players, the CPU (logicals, mind you) were choked.
Their support is non-existent until GMT +1 after 7am. I never got answers until that time frame. Half the time, they would just tell me to call them at 4 in the morning my time. For a delivery on a VDS.

          TL;DR
Servers are really good, I/O is great, RAM is decent (DDR3-1333Mhz), but processors are weak AMD logical cores.
Wanting an upgrade? Good luck. “Citrix” will prevent you from going over 4GB (or 3) on your Nitros Server because Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit doesn’t support it. (Right.)

Want support? Go somewhere else. Hard to understand, and sometimes not even there.
Uptime? Good, at the end where we switched over to a dedi the uptime was starting to sway, we would begin to have upload issues and eventually RDP would just drop. This downtime would take about 15 minutes.

          …Glad I moved on.

It’s still working for me. I’m actually even thinking about paying for the next month too (even if I’m not really happy with it, it’s still better than it used to be). But I need a VPS in Germany, and you can’t get 250GB disk, virtually unlimited bandwidth and 4GB RAM (including burst) for $7. Not even close.

Anyway, as I said, it’s not down (at least for me). Actually, I don’t think it has ever been completely down, only sloooow.

Well, I got a “SuperVPS Huge” today. Delivery was instantly.

The feeling: very fast, but there are some “freezes” for seconds while working. Disk and network performance are adequate to the price, as described above.

Customer service is also very fast: “TUN/TAP is buggy in current OpenVZ kernel we will enable this when new OpenVZ kernel comes UP!”. And the ticket got closed instantly. No further questions were answered.

So I will not ask for ntp. That may be buggy, too. And now there is little to expect on usability.

Well, its just another toy. Don’t expect anything serious here. Live with it, or your follow up customer will soon replace you.

Cap was enforced, I didn’t even use 1TB to begin with.

Tickets exchange back and forth but eventually, they refuse to fix it, I wasted 25$, cancel it. Funny, they even ask me on how to fix it because they don’t know about OpenVZ/VePortal (it was on VePortal)

I was naive enough to order another (SolusVM), this time I use 6TB (out of 30TB allowed, the largest package) before they kick me off again after 2 weeks, citing the bullshit highload, they never answer any ticket.

      • Not surprised at all.
OVH/Kimsufi dedicated may not have the greatest network to the USA, but I’m glad I switched over.

Shame on ipap. They had good intentions and they have had chances and help that would better their company.
But that’s all they ever did with me when I was a client. Answer tickets as in “We are on it!” then never hear from them ever. It was just bad.
Then they go telling me that Windows 2008 R2 x64 Standard doesn’t support more then 3GB on my 4GB Nitros Mini. Here’s the thing: it DID have 4GB then after a restart went to 3GB RAM.

Oh, and my Nitros Mini apparently is still online, unpaid for over 2 months. Hilarious. I’m not even touching it anymore.

Same here – final straw with this shower of muppets
I had a SuperVPS and reseller hosting with them.

The support SUCKS !!!!!! Takes them ages (24hrs + in many cases) to get a *single* reply to you, and at that its vague and skirts around the issue. Stupid shit like “hold tight….were working on it” or “I’ll get back to you with a full update”.Then your ticket is automatically closed. At that rate, it can take up to a week to get any sense out of them. After a week of skirting around a simple issue with their reseller hosting (no rDNS on their mail server) I hurled a little abuse their way, highlighting the fact that the support sucked, after all, I was paying for a service that I couldn’t use. Then they suspended my other service, the VPS, due to ‘insult’

I eventually got an apology for the crap level of support, but the VPS remained dead. Then they have the cheek to invoice me for the next billing cycle.

    Stay away from these arseholes.
Seriously, you will go insane when you have to deal with their inane replies, arrogance and complete inability to resolve the simplest of issues.

funny how alot of super vps get suspended good money making scheme to get your cash leave open for a week then close then resell it on.
i bet theres some chimp watching every node al times to to close your service i mean process using 80% of the cpu lol whats cpu do these servers have celerons or atoms in them as not i7 by far

The VPS was used for testing only, it wasn’t doing anything, CPU was at idle or 0.1% constantly.
Now the IP’s have been provisioned to some other victim.

i just gave up with there super vps was asking for the 50% refund for 10days then they took the funds nearly a week early from the wh system. then they finally refund the 50% for the down time so lets see if they keep to there word next month i will be curently testing what i can get from my spare super with the stuff from my basic vps i bet theres no change with the load lol but tux i defo think you work for them as nothing was mentioned to me when asked, so be a man and say your really support from there or admin lol
they do use cloud hosting meanig it bounces from one server to the next in there cloud to handle there huge load hahaha im sure there using more than 15% cpu usage there self so they suspended there own node hehe

“they do use cloud hosting meanig ”

Cloud computing is just a Sales tactic to add extra cash to the price, Its a shame many fall for this wording.

Folks, you blew off nearly a thousand comments telling you that these folks had problems. Stop blaming the company for your own dumb ass actions. (So much for being good.) You’re the ones who believed them and gave them money when others told you that they didn’t have a clue.

    Update:
My Nitro VDS is still working since no payment of last June. Oh I don’t get any invoices and I did tell them of cancellation, lol.

So who’s really watching their servers? hmm

Use it all you can, why pay when they give it to you for free?

Very true but I’m not putting anything on there important since it could drop anytime, but this goes to show you that if they are watching your systems or not.

Apparently not, if they can let a server go unpaid since May 30, 2011 and continue to let it run they really don’t care of what happens to your servers. I probably could host something against their ToS and still have it run, but I have no use for the server anyway.

Poor ipap. Still letting their services run even when unpaid. Everyone loves free!
