It’s obviously not so good on cpu or on disk i/o, but then again it’s not shared so it takes away the risks of attacks like the one we saw on most LEB providers using openvz a few weeks ago. I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore VPS if I can get one of these OVH servers. For streaming, email and small webhosting this is perfect for me…

      • Indeed, performance won’t be as good as say a ramnode vps but it is dedicated as you said.

I just spoke to them, delivery is early next week for my order placed yesterday. They said at the minute orders take upto 10 days to fulfill.

        • These are most likely sled chassis, so it’s worth bearing in mind that these are not as dedicated as as 1u server for example. There could be shared PSU and so on, it depends on how they have implemented the sleds.

The fine print, at least on the French site:

“Available only for residents of the European Union.”

I ordered one before reading that. So I guess they’ll probably cancel the order.

Few weeks ago I submitted a ticket asking if OVH accepts international customers. The reply was that customers without OVH country representatives should go to OVH.com (French) to make order. Sadly I just re-checked the support ticket link and it says “Not available at the moment”. Not sure if they delete it or something.

“You can use the UK or Irish site if you’d like to order in English”

UK site: you must be a UK resident
Irish site: you must live in Ireland, USA, or Canada (if you’re a new customer and from the US or Canada you will need to verify your identity)

The residency requirements are strictly enforced on the UK and IE sites so if you’re from another country you’ll need to order in French from kimsufi.com which is currently limiting orders to EU residents only and imposing a limit of 3 Kimsufi products per person:

    > Disponibilité sous réserve de la validation de votre commande et dans la limite des stocks disponibles.
Usage : Serveur personnel. Non autorisé pour la revente. Limité à 3 serveurs par personne physique ou morale.
Disponible uniquement pour les habitants de l’Union Européenne.

well, many would want to buy 100 of them and resell them for 20 euro a piece, even more, a server like this has a much higher price in another location, the hardware being basically “almost” the same, almost meaning normal people and not computer experts would not know the difference, and actually 2GB is 2GB, 500GB is 500GB, the processor is a bit low but who cares, also ECO, which is really interesting…

Compared to EU law US laws are rather at a lowe level. Especially when it comes to responsibility of users and payment enforcement. This is much easier to handle within the EU. That’s why USA, South America and Asia are classified as high risk countries.

Not sure what Ireland has to do with that. Within the Eu you have a common legal payment framework. Besides that the VAT applicability is simple. Both are not the case with countries outside the EU. The company is just trying to “protect” its equity by having customers that are from abusiness administration perspective solvent customers as payment can be enforced.

I would not take that into account much, except for the 3 servers per person, and the EU restriction.

If it says: “3 servers per person or per company”, and “personal server”, I think those statements are basically contradicting each other a bit, I mean if it’s personal only, how can companies use it?

Anyway I find this restriction good, because there are many people out there wanting to resell these, you get 100 of them for 300 euro or something, and then you started selling them at 20 euro a piece, that is not really fair, and I think a lot of ‘business’ oriented people did that, the limitation was not in place in the first day, as I remember.

They probably mean that companies can use it but cannot resell it. So if you want to use it as bastion host, apt repo, whatever — fine, just don’t rent it and then rent out to a customer of yours.

I sent them a ticket to ovh.pt (the portuguese division) and they reply in a few hours, they were honest and told they were having unexpected issues and don’t have an exact date when the new servers will be up, still setting up the new things on the new data center, so what we can do is wait.

Not sure if it was the most smart thing to do, start selling servers without having everything working, but still for that price it will worth the wait!

as long as they fit in 10 days its fine. Anyways if they know that they have big backlog and problems they could stop selling them or write some information on the website.

I’m wondering if they are gonna keep this price for like forever – they are selling it already for a week in this price. If it’s not just a limited-time SALE it is gonna shake the market and make most VPSs virtually uneconomical.

    Dear customer,

unfortunately, your orders for kimsuf server had to be cancelled, because of an issue with Paypal.

You can find an explanation here from our managing director:

    http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showpost.php?p=47317&postcount=1

you can go ahead and place another order via bank card, though we’ve closed the ordering for the ks-2g for a few days/weeks, as we’ve already received 15000 orders.

In any case, this is not an offer, it’s the model that will be selling for the next year, so you’ll be able to get one very soon anyway.

i don’t know. that’s not the only change. i think they offered 2 hdds with ks16 before (raid) and now you have only 1 hdd.

Because someone went and edited that page to say this instead of that. Seriously, what kind of question is it, “Why”? Too hard to see what they’re doing here? Yes it did decrease, yes they now sell a worse server for the same price (the RAID part mentioned above is also true). Still seriously want to ask “but why”?

  66. It seems like very unserious behavior from a supposedly known and established provider like OVH.

I called them 3 days after the purchase and they told me that everything is fine with the payment.

However after a few more days I saw a topic on lowendtalk that they’re cancelling all orders made with PayPal.

I called them again (it was about the 10th day of purchase) and they confirmed that the payment was cancelled.

I’ve been waiting for 10 days for my server, and they did not even notified me for the cancellation for all that time. I’ve received an e-mail today (on the 12th day) that the payment was cancelled.

Are they selling these servers or not ?

So I ordered one before they went out of stock. Delivered in 4 days, brand new hard disk, network speeds are very impressive. Only planned to use it as an rsync server for all my VPS but have installed Ubuntu desktop too and it runs pretty quickly. Very happy with it.

No ID verificatiin from UK paid by debit card.

My son would like to host his own server for an online game (minecraft). We are based in the UK. Could you please provide me with details as to what is suitable.

    Many Thanks

Please describe into more detail. If you are looking for minimum requirements of Minecraft then you can easily host a server on 256MB RAM. But it won’t be able to handle alot of players. The more RAM the more players and less lagg. 1GB RAM is enough for 12players if not a little more.

This will be perfectly fine for a decent sized Minecraft Server. Minecraft servers hosted in EU are good connection from the UK, if it’s hosted in US you’re gunna get some bad ping/lagg.

Is there a way to order for users living in Australia?

    • No, not directly. Resellers also aren’t allowed for KS 2013. EU only.

Stop!! Please read this before you buy !!
Order placed 12days ago – telephoned this morning to ask “where is my server” – answer we are waiting for chips from Intel – we plan to deliver a 1000 servers a week BUT in weeks – also note – the words used “this server is for personal use – not professional”

When pressed the impression is “like Peter Pan” from Never Never Land .. currently cancelling and I do not want to read about how low OVH prices are compared to VPS’s in these reviews .. the other postings are real and exist , anyone can charge 2,99 and then not deliver ..

After 15 days without news, and after being written the payment was ok and wait a max of 10 days, today I called on the phone: they told me my order was canceled. No explanation, canceled. No email, nothing. If you care you chould call and inform yourself.
They made an offer they cannot sustain, so the made a “select all”->Delete on all orders. And fuck you stupid customer.
The rep on the phone told me a max of 1 server per month is allowed for each country. Hope we was simply stupid. They only mantain the 3x cost offer at 9.99 to make you switch there. Not 3x memory, not 3x space, not 3x power.
    This was all cheap advertising…

I did phone up OVH/Kimsufi and they just keep’t referring me to look at the Kimsufi forums. So what’s the point in having a commercial questions phone line when they keep referring you to use the forums?

    August 12, 2013 @ 1:30 pm | Reply
    • mayodp:

the reasons why Adam the forum is to delay you further – is they have your money – think about it possibly 2000+ or more 3month payments of approx 10eu / 12usd , if 50% payments just ‘give up ‘ beyond 60+ days , that is 10,000 eu just for a single post on LEB and all the pro- marketing posts from the ‘me too’ / ‘ovh is cheaper’ . OVH 2.99/month and ‘Shangri La’ have one thing in common – both are fantasy – cancel now and ask yourself the question “could I build power and host a server of that spec for 2,99eu a month” – you kno the answer indeed as I did and could kick myself now for wasting 12 days ..

pay the money to a good VPS or dedicated server supplier and sleep at night

Biggest bullsh*t ever! Waited a week to get back an email that the payment could not be processed and order has been canceled. I will stick to Hetzner or other providers. I believe their priorities are the bigger priced servers no these low end ones but their support and lack of communication is awful!

OK, so it took almost exactly 2 months but the 4€-machine has finally been delivered.

    It’s a dual core 1,86Ghz Atom N2800 with Hyperthreading + 64bit.
    The HDD is a 7200rpm 500GB Toshiba SATA 6GB/s

You also get an IPv6/64 subnet.

Throughput looks great so far, more than 10MByte/s up and down.

I’m very happy about the throughput (never had less than 100mbit in both directions).

    I even got a free cpu upgrade appearantly (I was promised only 1 core @1.6Ghz);

    model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N2800 @ 1.86GHz
    cpu cores : 2
    cpu threads : 4

  87. Angry Customer:

We purchased a testing server from this so called hosting company, the server is totally useless for 10 days!
I rebooted the server and it will not boot, they claimed kernel panic, ok I asked for rescue mode, so that I can login and fix the kernel panic, no they are not responding to any of trouble ticket with anything to solve the problem, submitted over 10 trouble tickets their answer was just annoying and vague, like some random auto respond.

Ok, got frustrated and re-created the server destroying all the previous content to start from scratch, server was successfully created, but no password to login…. submitted tons of email to their customer services, nothing… nobody seem to be reading it.

We are waiting for over 9 hours for these people to respond back… no they won’t.

So if you are reading this, get yourself prepare to spend less to buy a server and loss revenue whenever your server goes down.

I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS STUPID SERVICE TO ANYONE, and I will continue to post this review on all Review and hosting websites so that others can see and read their wacho services that they offer and be ready for their BS.

    BUYER BEWARE!
