LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

MountSpot - $6.58 512MB OpenVZ VPS in India

Updated December 2011 — Dev has been selling/sold MountSpot.com on Flippa and IP address stopped resolving on 1 December 2011.

MountSpot MountSpot has been sending me “updates” to their previous offer although they still look very much identical to me. Different coupon code this time though, and it has already been posted on LowEndTalk. supersaver gives you the same 70% off recurring discount on their OpenVZ VPS products (while the old “Lowendbox” only gives 25% off now). Here is the sign up link to get “Explorer Virtual Server” for $6.58/month, and you get

  • 512MB memory/598MB vswap
  • 10GB storage
  • 250GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • 1x IPv4 (reduced from 2) and IPv6 not yet available but in the pipeline
  • Fully managed server support
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

“Fully managed server support” is what has been sent to me by Mountspot although I cannot find what has been covered by their managed support on their website — therefore *don’t* rely on it doing the full management (and related discussion here). They accept PayPal or AlertPay. They are in CtrlS/Tier IV data center in India (test IP: 182.18.143.40). It would be a nice location if you are providing service to those in South Asia, otherwise the network connectivity is less than ideal IMHO. There isn’t even a nearby Cachefly POP so doing your typical download test would probably fetch the test file from Hong Kong or Tokyo (or worse, US West Coast).

Not much issue has been fixed since last time. Still no SSL on ordering pages. Still bogus ToS. Still the same website with broken links. Yes it provides disruptive pricing in that part of the world, but I still like to see them getting some of the issues fixed.

Would love to see more LEB providers from Asia. Interestingly, MountSpot is a HongKong company, maybe next time they can offer us a VPS in HongKong?)

    • They are incorporated in Hong Kong, but based on the names I’ll say they are Indian. But yes, cheap VPS in South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia) or Far East Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea) would be nice.

LEB offer from India is an almost impossible act to come up with. The sole reason being very poor connectivity and high bandwidth costs.

To give you an idea BSNL, one of the main connectivity providers in India, charges about $44000/month for an un-metered 100mbps port (http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/internet_tariff1.htm)
whereas the same is available for about $100 in the US(Saw the US price somewhere on these forums and not sure though).

That said, the offer is great and hope to see few more.

  2. That has got to be one of the most offensive names I’ve ever seen on a provider.

Are domains so difficult to come by that we’ve falling back to zoophilia, folks?

What’s offensive about the name? No really, I even googled and nothing of relevance turns up, not even an urbandictionary article or something.

  4. SSL is not a problem. I got 3 unused SSL on namecheap and they suspended all 3, but the price to use is $1.9 for each. I don’t think they can’t afford about $10/year for SSL :D

I’m living in Viet Nam and the test IP is giving me very good ping (~120ms), the same with most Hongkong provider =D

Probably you are using the default name servers (8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4) causing cachefly to fail to point to the nearest POP.

  8. Mountspot is basically a unique name by us. We mean, its the destination where you can get web hosting. Mount means a medium for support, so we are your destination for web hosting in Asia.

I know its hard to provide such a offer in Asia region. If there won’t be any new stuff on LEB, then what’s the point.
Mountspot has brought this offer exclusively for LEB.
SSL would be going live soon, we were hesitant to get it before because of some technical issues. I would also thank LEB Admin for letting us know our drawbacks which we have to cover.

Last time, we had announced to all clients on accepting suggestions. There were few though but all were considered. If you guys have any important suggestions, do come up.

    @Francisco: Thanks for the stats.

    Regards,
    Dev S.M

      @Dev,

Can you clarify on the vswap that you are providing? Your order link doesn’t mention about it. My current vps with you doesn’t have any vswap/burstable memory.

I did provide some (good) stats about MountSpot. But it seems it was marked as spam and not published here.

      • Hi,

Biplab, there is no burst right now. Although we have allotted RAMS to different plans well distributively and using standard requirements, We do have burst on explorer VPS for 598 MB

        Thanks

          Hi,

So if I understand correctly your New offer comes with 598 MB vswap. Correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks!

        • Burst is very different from Swap. In the email that you sent to me (3 times!) you mentioned 598MB swap which I took it to mean vswap in the latest OpenVZ. Having 598MB privvmpages is something very different.

I second that opinion. My VPS has been up and running stable for only 20 days so far (signed up shortly after the last offer) but I intend to stay with them. Bandwidth can be low at times but their routes are fast. I see about the same RTTs from Australia to India as to San Jose.

$7 sounds too good an offer to be true for a VPS in India. I hope they can keep it up.

It works, enter all your details and go through all the way to checkout (click Update Cart).
          You will get 21.95 -15.37 = $6.58.

As for me I will probably consider getting one when they will also provide IPv6.
Also someone should clarify is it really new OpenVZ and vSwap, or just burstable RAM.

Sorry for the network problem, the problem was due to hardware drop because of festive season ahead and our employees couldn’t monitor it constantly and immediately.

Services will resume shortly. Thanks for patience and please continue getting up your new purchases.
