LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Netcup.de - 4.99 Euro 512MB OpenVZ VPS in Germany

Netcup.de Tim wrote me a few days about about Netcup.de — another German provider that offers low end VPS packages in one of the cheap German DC. You can check out their virtual server packages here. For 4.99 EUR/month (~USD$6.68) you get get a “easyV Lite vServer” that comes with

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 30GB storage (RAID5 with SSD swap)
  • Unmetered bandwidth
  • IPv6
  • OpenVZ

Servers are in Hetzner. Google translate is not that helpful I found on their about page — it seems that they have been around since November 2008, and they do have quite a few satisfied customers. Owner blogs here with lots of good hosting-related content — just wish I can read German :)

@Owner please screenshot your unlimited traffic bill with Hetzner, if you can not do that stop posting lies in hope no one will be using much bw, Hetzner charges 6.90 eu per TB and even there colo doesn’t have unlimited ports.

I would AVOID unless owner proves that he was a unlimited pipe deal with Hetzner.

The comment was for the host owner, we already had alvotech.de offer here, what was an awesome “unlimited bw” offer in the first place has been turned into 1TB and then into an awesome speed of 10 mbps. That’s why for me any host who says unlimited is a fraud. Streaming media, mirroring can take 10TB in a week and I doubt a 5euro host will allow you to do that.

Some hosts like virpus who offer 1.6TB simply know you can’t even push that amount with because speeds are hilarious even in US with 50KBs per peer.

*SSD-Swap-Technologie für schnellen Speicherzugriff: Nein, ab v(olks)Server 1000
translates to: No SSD-Swap-Technology, available from v(olks)Server 1000 (another product) or above

    * Upgrade auf andere vServer: möglich, einmalig 20 € Bearbeitungsgebühren
Upgrade to to another vServer offer 20€ one-time fee

    * Weitere IP’s (nach RIPE): möglich einmalig 5 € pro IP
additional IP’s according to RIPE policy, 5€ per IP one-time fee

Billing term (Abrechnungsperiode) is 6 month. But contract term (Mindestvertragslaufzeit) is 1 month
Which means pay 6 month in advance, get refund if you canceled earlier I presume.

This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with
    any company of any sort.
    * Inability to cancel something via the internet that I was able to
order via the internet. How can I legally enter an agreement over the
internet but not exit an agreement? That is ludicrous.

    * 74.5€ in late fees on a 20.97€ bill, for a service that I was
unaware of being subscribed to. I’m a poor student, I don’t have cash
like that laying around. This means I can’t buy course literature in
time for when the courses start.

    * The service in it self was not very good. Being artificially limited
to 400KB/s is extremely bad, especially when bandwidth was supposedly
    ‘free’.
