LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Newwebsite - $6.95 512MB Xen/OpenVZ VPS in Duffield with Free DirectAdmin

Newwebsite Via this WHT offer. Newwebsite was recently mentioned & recommended on LowEndTalk, although they were last featured here over a year ago. See, that’s the problem with LowEndBox — filled with many smaller new providers trying to get exposure month after month, whereas long running offers such as this just get buried.

“WHT VPS-1” is $6.95/month using this signup link. You get

  • 512MB memory/512MB swap (or burstable memory on OpenVZ)
  • 25GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • 8x vCPU cores on Xen, 4x vCPU cores on OpenVZ
  • 2x IPv4 addresses
  • Xen or OpenVZ/SolusVM
  • Free DirectAdmin

Payment in either PayPal or credit card. Servers with OnePartner in Duffield VA (test IP: 74.117.232.34) — looks like in the middle of nowhere on Google Maps, population of 92 according to Wikipedia, but seems to be the perfect place to build a data center. Newwebsite has been in business since 1997, and in hosting since 2001. They do have a way to source very cheap DirectAdmin licenses for their VPS customers, which we can only be sure that they are not paying $5/month.

Keep in mind, they used to have like 33mbps to all of their colocated servers, so speeds have been terrible. Thought the hardware and free DA is very good.

  4. Yes.
They can offer free DA, because they are using internal license.
But sometimes, the VPS is lagging, and sometimes, it’s offline. I’ve experienced this last year, and I can’t reinstall / performing action from SolusVM. So I just cancell it (OpenVZ one)

    • I agree with Erawan here. Personally, I actually tried both OpenVZ and Xen w/ DA a while back. The actual node performance is spotty sometimes. *Note* I said “sometimes”… majority of the time performance is good. Same be said with network as well. At that time I needed better reliability so I canceled mines as well.

For the price and what you get, it can’t be beat.

OnePartner ATAC datacenter got some media exposition in May celebrating 1,000 consecutive days of uninterrupted operation.

“… When you consider how many opportunities there are to stumble in almost three years of weather events, when most other businesses have suffered multiple disruptions of service in that same period, it’s amazing that the OnePartner ATAC datacenter has not suffered even a single second of downtime.”

Regarding the DC location the company’s Web site features a white paper titled “10 Places You Don’t Want a Datacenter”. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. :-)

I’m using them for more than a year now. I wouldn’t say they are the best ever VPS hosting company, but it is definetely worth the money. The hardware and free DA is great, network is crappy.

Peering from Europe is significantly worse than Hostnoc in Scranton PA, even though they’re so close geographically.

Mmm, the network concerns above are worrying, but I like the offer – Directadmin is really not that bad.

I went ahead and bought it. Has been more than 24hrs and still not activated. Send them a ticket, no reply. I’m concerned about their service, another new player on the block again.

Unquestionably the company is not a new player.

In 1997 Newwebsite.com was started as a web design company.

In 1999 we started focusing on the hosting aspect …

I purchased one, just to get the free DA license, never personally used it, great deal.

However, more than 40 hours and still not activated, just an email explaining how many orders they had.

But the DA won’t work outside their VPSes.

Anyway, hoping that it will be activated soon.

Over 2 days, just received a notice from them, they said they have run out of space for new orders at this time, the customers who have purchased can choose a refund or to continue to wait

  15. We will have a new server at the end of the week with plenty of space. The response from lowendbox was overwhelming. Some have said they had been waiting a long time for activation but nobody waited for more than 24 hours before being notified that we were having trouble keeping up with the demand and then everyone was notified again when space had run out. We are definitely not new since we have been mentioned on lowendbox before and have been advertising on webhostingtalk for a couple of years. Sorry for the wait and inconvenience. Those who have ordered and have chosen to wait for the new server instead of cancelling will get 1 month free.

I’ve had service with NWS for over 2 years. They moved to a nice DC a while back, and I’ll have to say, for what started as a “backup” vps to house backups and as a stand-by web server, this is the ONLY VPS I’ve never had any issues with for a long, long time. I’ve used about 10 other providers, and normally “spread it around” at least 4 companies at a time for redundancy sake. It’s been one of the most stable, and since the DC move, one of the fastest I’ve had.
I have a few with the old FSCK/VaServ who just send out a “cancellation of contract” to ALL US customers, so…guess who gets my biz now ;) Comin’ your way Mr. Floyd…

I’ve had service for multiple years with the following – Hosting.com (s-u-c-k-e-d), Fivebean, Bluemile, RamHost, Joe’s DC, FSCK/VaServ, Burstnet, NWS.

Of all the long and short term I’ve used, the BEST overall are NWS, Joe’s DC, and RamHost. Hands down.

    Hello:

I’m a long-time Debian user and am eyeing this deal. Does anyone know if it would be possible to run Debian on the Xen PV plan that Newwebsite provides? (I realize that Xen PV is perfectly capable of running Debian, moreso my question is asking if Newwebsite allows this.)

    Thanks.

They have Solus templates for Debian 5 and Debian 6 both 32 bit and 64 bit. I installed Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit without any problems. The stock -generic-pae kernel was installed by default and worked fine and the -virtual kernel also worked fine.

The hardware is on par with my linode and better in some cases since NWS gives you access to 8 virtual cpus while linode is 4. Unixbench was slightly higher for NWS.

On the other hand, the network is very slow. http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test to linode is about 70M/sec and on NWS is 500K/sec to 1M/sec at prime time.

At one third the cost, that’s a tough decision.
