LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

ProviderService - €3.77 256MB OpenVZ VPS in Germany

ProviderService Via this offer on WHT. ProviderService looks like the English website of Germany’s Providerdienste.de, with claim that it has been in the managed hosting since 1999. Its owner’s LinkedIn Profile is also stating the same so I guess it must be true :) It’s nice to have a long running business getting into the low end market that is otherwise populated by new hosting startups. Anyway. For €3.77/month exc VAT (~USD$4.64/month) you can get

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage on RAID10
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

From its infrastructure page the servers are in Equinix data center in Germany. Looks like they have got their own set up + their own multi-homed network there.

Hmm, looks very interesting. Especially since I’m in Europe, so ping is ~25ms.

Now, I have a couple of VPS’s in the US, with ping of ~130 to one and ~155 to the other.
How much those miliseconds mean? Would I really feel the improvement?

I don’t have anything big on the VPS’s, just hosting my personal e-mail and playing sometimes, when I have the time. So until now I didn’t have any problems nor did it bother me much.

  2. I guess with lower latency you can get a more responsive website, especially when there are many assets on a web page that needs to be downloaded. Or if you are running latency dependent apps like VoIP or game server.

And working on SSH — huge different between 25ms and 155ms :)

    Then I should consider switching…
Maybe I’ll take this offer and let you guys know. The only thing that stopped me doing it already is that they say it’s a six-months contract.
